As an adult I have been to countless auctions and referred people to him. Jerry and his staff are knowledgeable, personable, and just awesome people. His auctions are first class, very well organized, and an absolute day of fun to go to. Even if you don't buy anything. They make the auctions enjoyable. Stichter advertises every auction as "A very fine" or "excellent" public auction, but sells mostly…read moremass-produced bric-a-brac like pyrex bowls, mold-made pottery, cross stitch samplers made to look antique, old fashioned furniture, etc. The staff makes it seem like they're doing the buyers a favor for just showing up on auction day. He also sometimes attributes items as things they are not. For instance, he sold a friend of mine a small vase Stichter said was jadite jade, but was actually resin plastic. When my friend took it to his jeweler for appraisal, the jeweler laughed and said it was worth, "About $3." My friend had paid $150. When he tried to return it to Stichter, he was told "as is where is" and his responsibility was to inspect all items before purchasing. Overall, this auctioneer is mostly hype. Oh, I forgot to mention that he favors his own workers when taking bids. I have seen him ignore other bidders when someone on his staff is bidding on an item.

They allow you to preview items the day before and the morning of the auction while answering all of your questions. Obviously an auctioneer cannot answer your questions during a sale. To the person with a bad review... that is on you! If you don't know what you are bidding on, then why were you bidding? If you're an auctioneer yourself you should know better. Maybe you should be grateful they didn't stick you with a bill on something YOU over bid on! I'm certain no auctioneer knows all information on everything they sell. It sounds more like you disrupted a sale, you are disrespectful and you don't deserve an apology for your own mistake!

He was sensitive and respectful to the sentimental value of things and patient when she was not ready to let go of some items. He moved her stuff in to Assisted Living and was back in a year to move her stuff out of Assisted Living as she had another transition. He saved me many trips to Cincinnati by handling so many things on my behalf, communicated frequently and was fast and efficient. Very organized and kept good records. I feel lucky to have met him as he has great experience in the transitions of an older adult and offered an ear when times got tough. His service is invaluable!

Finally, I received a phone call from the owner on March 11, 2024. He said my stuff would be auctioned off on March 16th. It was auctioned off March 16th and they mailed me a check that I received today (March 20). They supposedly auctioned everything off for $3625. After all of their fees, I got $2110. I'm kind of disappointed because I don't think all the fees were explained adequately. The charge to pick up things was $25 a hour per person plus $250 for fuel/equipment. There were three people so that's $75 times 3 hours + $250. Total should be $475. They charged me $625. There is a $25 landfill charge (which was never brought up on the sheet I signed) but that still would only take it to $500. I clocked them being there about 3 hours, but they might've charged more. Also, I don't see the kitchen hutch anywhere on the inventory sheet they provided me, so I guess I wasn't paid for that. There's also some items on the inventory sheet marked $0. I don't know if that means they did not sell or what. If I had to it over again, I think I would have asked them come to the house first and give me an idea of what they would be interested in taking. Either that or tell them they have to take everything. I don't think all the expenses I had to pay were worth whatever I eventually made nor was the mess they left me to deal with. I wish I would've looked at other auction houses. I think I could've done a little better and had a better experience. If you have the time and you live near the property you're selling from, you're better off selling the contents yourself. Not recommended.
