I've been to Cafe Michelena twice. The first time was an enjoyable experience with good service and…read morefood, back in 2023. This visit was the complete opposite. The staff is rude and dismissive, the food order was incorrect, the food arrived cold, and the dishes were flavorless or made incorrectly. The cafe has turned into a tourist trap due to its proximity to the plaza in the centro. It's not worth the money or time. I recommend La Guercita only two blocks away if you want good, tasty food and attentive service. Examples. My mocha had no chocolate flavor and my wife's dirty chai tea was not anything close. My father in law order juevos rancheros that came out completely cold and the sauce was wrong. And I was told that a chicken Milanese torta would take 45 minutes. Guess breaded chicken is a hard dish to cook. Pass on this place. There are many other better places in the centro to get breakfast or lunch.

We finally asked someone if we could be seated. After we were seated, they brought us menus. The server was nice. I asked for a recommendation between the Caffe Nutella or the Caramel and he said Nutella. I went with his recommendation and it was good. My daughter wanted breakfast but they were no longer serving breakfast. It took several minutes for our drinks to come out, and it took about 20-30 minutes for our food to arrive. The server didn't check in on us at all and didn't bring us napkins until I asked. We ordered a cheeseburger, enchiladas suizas, lasagna, a smoothie, several aguas de Naranja, and a coffee. The enchiladas were super spicy! For someone who does not eat spicy, they were extremely spicy. We were having a wonderful conversation but kept getting interrupted by vendors, which, honestly, ruins the vibe. I understand vendors have to sell but we are trying to eat and talk. The bathrooms are nice and clean. The inside of the place is super cute. My recommendation is eat inside so you can eat in peace and enjoy the cute vibe. Our total was $910.

The owner kindly let me know they weren't open yet, and noticing my struggling Spanish, switched to English with a smile. He was incredibly friendly -- he invited me to sit down, offered me some water, and even brewed an espresso free of charge. He also shared great recommendations for local restaurants and even a nearby winery that I can't wait to visit. Today's my first day in Querétaro, and I already know I'll be coming back. It's amazing how a simple act of kindness can make your entire experience unforgettable.

Seldom can places manage to be cool and have an awesome product and have both of these intermingle harmoniously, which is exactly what puts them on top of the game. A few rules describing the coffee shop are written next to the entrance of the shop, such as the coffee menu situation and the four-legged owner who roams around the bar, greeting visitors with its furry paws. Though the place is small, the candid approach by the baristas make you feel right at home, cozy and tight. The coffee is roasted in house in very small batches, following a medium roast profile, a very welcome sight in the coffee scene. Espresso is pulled with expertise, allowing the acidity and sweetness to shine through. Manuel and pour over methods are also offered with their own special twist. While the coffee is reason enough to come here, and the pastries and food add to the experience, in Apapacho it's all about the community. With their own herb garden, their tip system that goes to fund their bike program, and their communal skateboard, this shop truly intends to serve their community while making great coffee. This place does its name justice, as you are pampered by both the people and the coffee.
