Fort Myers , Florida 13 Jan 2020 My buddy and I went to lunch on Monday and we decided on Tijuana Flats on Rt. 41. We were quickly greeted by the staff and placed our orders at the counter. Once the order was paid for we went to be seated at a nearby table. It wasn't long before our order was brought to our table. I ordered two tacos ( yeah , I know , it wasn't taco Tuesday but I wanted tacos , ok ? ) My friend ordered a chicken salad. The wait staff frequently checked on us inquiring if we needed anything. Everything was fine however. The food was good and quite filling. I was surprised however when a little heat hit me. I forgot that when asked if I wanted everything on my taco I did say yes. I didn't think that would include a jalapeño pepper. My boo boo. Next time I'll cancel the jalapeño. I will be back however as the food is good and TF is close to my place. There is free parking in a private lot behind the restaurant , always a plus in my book. I forgot to take photos of my tacos , but hey , we all know what a taco looks like , verdad ? read more

So I decided to try this place The best things first. Outstanding staff. Very helpful. Plus a believe it or not a hot & spicy sauce bar. Who would have known this of all things in Florida. Now the food. $6 bucks seems to be the average price here. Which is a good thing. Since Floridians have horrible taste buds this is a great thing. The food is terrible with massive amount of SODIUM...For Floridian this means SALT. Just too much. Now I know why they have this hot sauce bar. It covers the salty food. Went in here for lunch and had the Taco Tuesday deal, two tacos with your choice of filling, a drink, and chips for under $6 -- what a deal! The girl at the counter with the colored hair was super friendly and helpful, explaining all of our options and being very patient with us. They brought our order to the table and I noticed all the hot sauces off to the side. You get to pick amongst 15 different ones. I tried the 3 hottest and my favorite was the Pyromania. Make sure you have a cold drink handy! The Tacos were cooked perfectly, one was blackened chicken, which was good, but you could get tired of the taste pretty quick. The other was the regular chicken which was amazing. The chips were a little too dark, but tasted pretty good. Trying it with all the different sauces was fun. This was our second visit to Tijuana Flats, and we were not disappointed. We appreciate that we can easily make vegan options from several things on the menu. They had a local beer on tap, and gave us a generous sample to try before deciding to commit to a glass of it. It was a great IPA, yes please! A quick trip the the sauce area, and our food was ready. Hot Wife felt that the chips on her plate were stale, but wasn't planning on eating them anyway. She did like her burrito, with fresh tomato, onions, peppers included. The norrito bowl was good, but I wanted chips to try with the many sauces to try, and went to order a side, but the nice young woman at the counter gave them to me no charge, a nice big basket of them! I ended up eating half of the norrito bowl with the chips, kind of like nachos with the tasty sauces on top. One thing I still don't get about Tijuana Flats is the tiny thimbles for the sauces. If you like one you can either drench your food in it with the pumps, or keep going back every 2 seconds to refill your thimble. I understand the idea, sample lots of sauces without being wasteful, but once you choose one.... Hot Wife also says they need reusable plates and real silverware. Much more environmentally friendly, and since they clean your tables (there aren't trash cans to throw away your own stuff) it seems like an easy fix. Same thing with the beer, real pint glasses would be nice, not the plastic. Hopefully Tijuana Flats recycles, but I digress. Hungry? Want a nice variety of food for every diet needs? Can't figure out all the glowing reviews. This is like the macdonalds of Tex mex only over priced. Could go to an authentic fine Mexican restaurant for the cost of this very bland food. And this coming from someone that doesn't even like numb your gums hot n spicy, but I do appreciate tasty spices. The guac had zero flavor. I wanted to get a mahi taco and veggie burrito, but the order taker couldn't figure out how to enter into cash register. Oy! No bueno. Ok, so I just got the dos tacos. Flavorless even with the sauce they put on it. They give you chips with it but if you want salsa or guac it is an upcharge. Four of us ate and all said same. Pretty flavorless and bland. I didn't like the layout of the cash registers being on the side, very confusing and too much of a high traffic area. I get the crunchy Dos Tacos every time with beef. This particular location can get really busy, especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays when they have some really good specials going. Busy means crowded parking lot and hard to find a seat. Despite being busy the food comes out quick Lots of variety to the menu and as others have mentioned the Hot Bar is fabulous addition! The Tijuana trio is a must for our table because we like the crispy chips and all the dips to start the meal off! I have had the tacos, burritos, salads and quesadillas. Where to start... Well, the beginning I reckon. Now, I'm not a pensioner or anything like that, but I still find this menu to be a little confusing. It's kind of all over the place, and each time I'm here, I just look at it and think, "Crap. What now?" I got a chicken and bean burrito, with onion, guacamole, and sour cream, and made it wet with chipotle sauce. What I got is a fair sized burrito with a skinny portion of chips. No one else's chips at the table were near to the small portion I received. The chipotle sauce was less than tasty and there was no guacamole on or in my burrito. One of the many hot sauces was what made it edible. The up-sells kill you here. A portion of beans and rice: Extra, and not worth the $$. Make it wet: Extra, and not worth the $$. They want you to buy bottles of the hot sauce, so your only option at the sauce bar are sample-sized thimbles of sauce. It could take you all lunch hour just to read through the sauce descriptions. And, none of them are "fresh" salsas. They're just bottled sauces. There are no trays, and they bring you your food at the table. I suspect there are no trays so that you don't load it up with sauce thimbles with which to return to your table. I just don't get the attraction here. Everything is geared towards selling the myriad of sauces. They even keep the drinks behind the counter. The staff-type-person who came to offer refills was wearing jean shorts that were so filthy, he looked like he just got done changing the engine out of a bulldozer. What kind of manager lets his people out on the floor like that, or even NEAR food? I'll take Moe's over T-Flats any day. read more

Fantastic. Would be a 5-star but it's not quite as good as the original. I recommend keeping it simple: get the two tacos; they are very large and come with chips. The food is delicious, the hot sauce bar is classic (they aren't all real hot, which is nice sometimes). The sweet tea is delicious. The downside is just that sometimes the service is crazy slow even when it 'a not busy. You can pretty much always order real fast, but then sometimes it takes forever for your food to come, or they don't come around and do refills. But those are the only negatives. I made eye contact with every single staff member and still no "I'll be right with you!" or anything. We were the only ones in line too, so there's no excuse. Cute place with great decor and friendly staff who are all willing to make your stay pleasant. Grab a seat, check out the menu and proceed to the counter to place your order which will then be brought back to your table by a member of staff. If you want to doctor it up, they have an enormous hot sauce bar with loads of different sauces to try out. The menu has your usual texmex fare but it's a bit disappointing not to have complimentary chips and salsa on offer while waiting for the entree to arrive. On the flip side, there's no extra charge for guacamole or extra cheese, which is pretty surprising as well, so I suppose that evens out. The decor is colorful and fun and great music playing. The place is spotless and the staff is very accommodating. The food is better than mediocre but nothing too amazing. A decent value, for sure. Good portions. Nothing disappointing, aside for the lack of chips and salsa as mentioned, which really should accompany any texmex meal complimentary. Super casual Mexi-Cali eat in taco joint. Mind you, they do offer burritos & quesadillas as well as tacos; soft or crunchy. They were running a Wednesday night taco special: 2 tacos with side of chips + drink $5.99. Not a bad deal! We chose crispy chicken tacos with the "works" = lettuce, tomato, onion, sour cream, cheese and fresh jalapeños. All in all we agreed they were OK; could use more chicken and the taco shell tasted a bit chewy (especially for a crunchy taco). We also ordered a beef & bean (option of black or re-fried) burrito with the "works"...we added a topping of red sauce for a "wet burrito"; TASTY! This was the highlight over the tacos all the way! They do serve bottled beers (pretty decent variety) as well as soft drinks. For you hot sauce lovers, they offer a "hot sauce bar" so you can try as many (I believe 15 varieties) as you like. I use the term "hot sauce" over "salsa" as this is the type of sauce you would find in a bottle as opposed to the type served in a Mexican style restaurant. We selected 2-3 different types but chose to enjoy our spice from the fresh jalapeños inside our food. I would recommend this funky little place for a casual dinner or lunch stop with one BEWARE...the A/C is brutally set low so bring a sweater! read more
