My impression, upon poking my head in the door, was that this is a classic Wisconsin bar that had been purchased to serve a group of regulars. If you want to feel like you don't belong somewhere, step into Uncle Jims for a hot minute. Suffice to say I did not stay, so I have no idea if their drinks are good. But the atmosphere is less than hospitable. Head to Rookies 50' down the street and you'll do a shade better.

I only took a few pics because I was too involved watching the Packers game and chatting with my niece and her friends. It was as loud and raucous while the game was on, but cleared out pretty quickly afterward. I assume it was because the Packers didn't win, however, the hosts were friendly and brought food around for everyone to sample and everyone was having a great time. The Ladder House was clean and had all the trappings of being a great, fun place to meet and enjoy a drink with friends. They have a lot of TV's so you can see the game from almost every angle. The beer is cold, the patrons are hot and I will be back.

Huge points to the bathroom, they have set up a rack of small hand cloths to dry your hands on instead of paper towel. This sustainable and clever move has me excited. I love the interior design, the super Appleton arts vibe that makes this area and it's scene unique. The drinks and service were above par. Live music is a plus too. Excited to see what Nice Time has in store! The menu was the only drawback to me, it was very mezcal centric & hard to read. I also did not see a low cal beer option for my diabetic friend & it was a little too busy to ask the bar staff. Id say more options for lite beers (bonus points for craft!)

Love the little details in the wood moldings and floors and stained glass and that they've kept the "vintage" looks of this older building that contribute to an atmosphere of uniqueness. Most places are rushing to modernize and make everything look simple and cookie cutter, its beautiful to spend time in a place that embraces the history they're working with instead of stripping it down. Not a lot of bathrooms/stalls in it, but it was very clean and well kept up. The bar area is a bit cramped and narrow, but it's history as a discrete speakeasy in an now alcohol heavy town makes it seem charming. My friends and I have had a great time here for concerts and birthday/anniversary parties and excited to go back for more. *Steep flight of stairs to get up there though with no elevators so maybe not ADA compliant
