Aikido of Nebraska is the best. I have studied there for several years and can say that the chief…read moreinstructor, Todd Roberts, is an excellent, knowledgeable, and patient teacher who encourages students to learn about and improve themselves as they learn about and improve their aikido techniques. Classes here are fun and challenging, and I always walk away having learned something new. Training aikido here is rewarding, The people at Aikido of Nebraska are as warm, welcoming, supportive, and without ego as Sensei Roberts is. (This part is really important for me -- I'm a woman and I cannot say the same about other martial arts studios I have tried.) The studio is clean and bright, safety is a priority, and is a great value. Lincoln is fortunate to have this hidden gem.

Both hold the rank of RokuDan (6th degree black belt) and for 35 years have been the Dojo-Cho(Chief instructors) on a full time basis. Our dojo is dedicated to the strict practice of Traditional Aikido and the principles of the founder, O'Sensei Ueshiba Morihei. Todd Roberts Sensei, the owner of Aikido of Nebraska, is a direct student of Crane Sensei's. I say all of this to emphasize the pedigree or quality of teaching available in this dojo. Todd Sensei possesses a depth of knowledge and dedication to continuing to teach Aikido in the true tradition the founder intended for you to learn. In April of 2011, myself and 2 other Aiki-Deshi traveled to Aikido of Nebraska and had the pleasure of training with Todd Sensei. We found the students to be very welcoming, enthusiastic, wonderful training partners! It was exciting to see so many new students anxious to learn the correct methods of basic technique and strong interest in Aiki weapons training! We miss training with Todd Sensei back in NJ, but our loss is truly Lincoln, Nebraska's gain! If you're interested in studying traditional Aikido, you will find this dojo the best destination for learning the true way Aikido was meant to be taught! For Self-Defense classes:…read more We did a family self-defense class previous to a trip we were about to take. Master Michael Catron showed our children how to be 'situationally aware', and used the great analogy of owning the salad bar - don't let anyone in your way, don't let anyone split the group, and no one gets to the tomato crock before you! Also, I took the Women's Self-Defense class with Master Hilary Catron. I travel a lot, and being a woman there is always a safety concern. Even just walking alone down a street or in a different city can be scary. Master H. Catron was very helpful and had us practice defense moves repeatedly to help us get used to the motions and the force required. I'm more confident and better prepared to handle an unwanted situation. Child's Birthday Party: My youngest son had his Birthday celebration at Catron's Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do. The group had a wonderful time. They did self-defense, broke boards, played samurais with foam swords, did jiujitsu with balloons, and practiced some Tae Kwon Do movements. Master M. Catron was so great with the kids and really knew how to interact with them. I was really impressed how he had all of their names memorized. This helped the kids to connect and enjoy the activities. The best part was, the kids were exhausted and had a great workout for the day.

There are very few athletic activities where the whole family can participate, and Taekwondo allows us to all exercise together. No longer do I have to leave the family at home while I go to the gym. Or more likely, not go at all. Taekwondo is built into the family's schedule and we all look forward to going! Even better, I'm not waiting around, bored, for a kid's sportball practice to be over - I'm there on the floor with them. The instructors are professional and thorough, yet friendly, and encourage each student to perform to their individual best. They are especially good with children, and instill discipline and focus into them. Catron's blend of Taekwondo, various other arts, and self defence keeps things interesting. I would recommend Catron's Chung Do Kwan to anyone wanting to improve not just their physical fitness but their lifestyle as well.
