Taking only back roads from my home in rural West Georgia, with its easy access to the unique beauty that is East Alabama and through the cotton-laced back roads of North Alabama, through stunning Little River Canyon, DeSoto State Park and over, legendary and beautiful, Lookout Mountain, every trip that way culminated in a stop at Tiger Lily in quaint Fort Payne, after my father relocated to Hollywood, Alabama, a few years ago. Although he had lived all over the country during his eighty-three years, from his birthplace in the green mountains of Vermont, to the gentle slopes of central Texas, it was in Sweet Home Alabama, where he ultimately found, and felt at, peace. Even though it is just about my favorite way to spend two and a half hours, after my dad passed, on 12.23.23; I stopped making that gorgeous ride simply because I thought that it might break my heart in two, and then life got busy, giving me an acceptable excuse not to go, despite desperately missing it and secretly wanting too. Recently, my, wise, husband, who knew that I really yearned to make the trip, but needed a push, that he believed might, ultimately, heal me, said, "Hey; it's Christmas at Tiger Llly, let's take a ride!" and so we did, and then we traveled a little further North and left a shiny and new, vintage inspired, ornament we bought at Tiger Lily at my dad's final resting place, and with that, I knew that, while cancer had ravaged his mind, and his body, his soul was truly at peace and it confirmed that I had lovingly fulfilled every promise I had ever made to him, and that I could be free, and at peace, too... I have never ordered flowers from Tiger Lily, so I can't speak to that experience, but what I can say is that I have had an extraordinary time every time I've shopped at Tiger Lily, and my experience has never been anything less than a 10/10! The store is stunning, throughout the year, but ... especially during the holidays, and it has become a sure fire, and favorite, dopamine rush! I have always found every employee I have ever interacted with to be both lovely and helpful as I slowly, very slowly, peruse every nook, cranny and corner of the store as if it is my full-time job! As a result, it is extremely easy for me to highly recommend this magical gift shop and the equally magical "elves" who work there! Tiger Lily is just one of the many things that makes Fort Payne, and the surrounding area, so incredibly special, so memorable, and, in my opinion, the best of what America has to offer and should strive to be, and I genuinely hope that I am able to discover and experience every single one of them in my lifetime! Pros: This is an amazing Diamond in the rough. They have an excellent selection of fresh hand crafted flower arrangements and unique curated gifts for anyone and any occasion. Cons: You can order the flowers online, however the gifts and other items are only available for purchase in the store. They're also closed on Sunday, which isn't to bad around these here parts. Another failed delivery. Our son ordered flowers for his Mom following her surgery + Mother's Day. Not receiving the delivery on Saturday, when it was promised, I assumed it would be delivered Monday, but wasn't. Monday at 5:02 I called and spoke with a very nice lady. She said the owner had already left, and she would have the owner phone me Wednesday morning. I received no call. Tuesday afternoon I stopped by the store to speak with the owner. He first addressed me with: "This order was cancelled 5 times on the internet." I asked why and was told, "Because we could not fill it." I asked if the purchaser had been phoned and was told, "We Don't Call, They Get An Email, So They Would Have Received 5 Emails." I asked if they call the order recipient and was told, "WE DON'T CALL THEM." With each question he's getting louder and more impatient. I said, "So much for customer service" and got yelled at some more. I told him I would not be using his business in the future, and also that I would no longer refer others to his business. Again he yelled, " THEY GOT 5 EMAILS ABOUT IT." By this time, my own feathers were ruffeled and I left, telling him to "KISS MY BUTT" as I Ieft. I'm not proud of that, but when you have a loved one recovering from bypass surgery and it's Mother's Day, you want to do everything you can to ease their pain, you expect businesses to do as promised, or at least call and offer to make a substitution. A simple phone call would have fixed it for everyone. Finally, my son never received any email notifications about the cancelled order. I cannot recommend Tiger Lily Florist. My sister in law ordered flowers on their website. They never delivered flowers. When questioning them they said they can reject web orders but they don't let customer know. According to them FTD is supposed to let customer know. FTD did not notify my sister in law. Seems like a crazy way to run a business and why be part of FTD if you are just going to reject orders. Last year 2013 I ordered a corsage for my son's date for prom. I had specifically said light pinks, bright pinks, and purples. When I picked it up it had those colors but also yellows & greens. It did not match the dress at all with those colors. They did fix it but the lady that took the order admitted that she had added those colors because she thought they would be pretty. Fast forward to 2014 I go back and order a corsage and tell them I want a white rose in the center with bright pinks, purples,yellows. The lady taking my order says "we call those hot summer" I asked will their be a white rose in the center she says yes. Well guess what no white rose and it looked cheap especially for what I had paid. I called the store and the young man I talked to wanted to argue with me at first because the lady had written hot summer on the ticket. Again I go down there and he fixes it white rose in center and added a lot more color. Be very specific with what you order from this business or you will end up with whatever they give you. The florist is excellent but the person taking orders needs to listen more and write what you say not what she wants. read more
