This will mark my first review after using Yelp for several years…read more I was looking for a place to learn Krav Maga, a form of hand to hand combat, and I came here. The first lesson I received was from a competent instructor so I return for a second. While I was waiting with the class for the session to being I was told by the other students, "Ugh, the other instructor is here." After several minutes of people going on about how much they like the other instructor and dislike the one we were about to have I asked, "Is he really as bad as the other is good?" and the response was a polite way of saying, "Yes". I didn't think much of it as I've been to several boxing gyms, workout gyms, etc. and none of them were that bad. Well, after about 20 minutes of running around and very little training I became leery of the value of coming. After a few more minutes I was lying on my back performing some new exercise when all of a sudden the trainer (who's also the owner it turns out) is sitting on top of me showing how I can be held in place. No warning, no request for permission, just sitting on top of me. At that point I got up, told him he had no business sitting on top of me without my permission, and then noted that if he had done as much to one of girls in the glass they would have been hysterical - one of which was two months pregnant. This center sucks. For Krav Maga training check out the numerous ones around Greater Boston, you'll have better luck.

We wanted something to do with our kids, not just to watch them do it. We wanted a family activity. All the other places in town that we visited said that the adult classes were separate. This place does offer adult classes in the evenings, however those come as part of the package and can be attended in addition to the family classes that you can do with your kids. The other major differentiator of this place is the owner and chief instructor. He is very experienced and a perfectionist when it comes to learning Taekwondo. You and your child get the chance to become top-notch if you wish. Many state and world champions have come out of this academy. However, if you wish to just do it for sport and for exercise or discipline or whatever other reason, you will feel very comfortable doing that as well. It's easy to go at your own pace. We highly recommend this as a family activity! Enjoy.

My second was what is the student to instructor ratio. 12-1 well 1.5. They have volunteers that need hours so they help. I asked if there is ever a point that they add in another "student" to help if needed. NOPE. I said well my daughter has special needs And I was just wondering if she needed some extra help with things at times it could be accommodated. The response I got was we can't accommodate a 1:1. I never mentioned a 1:1 nor am I looking for that as my daughter doesn't require that. She then went on to tell me how "those kids" can have trouble with transitions and have temper tantrums. Which it was never even asked about MY daughters disabilities or needs. So basically a label was automatically put on her. I was so taken back by this. For a business owner or manager to place where children go to be so insensitive. Maybe it isn't the right fit for her but I would think she has the right to go if that's what we decided. To feel denied before even having the Information on my daughter

So when we needed new gutters I called them again in the fall of 2019. Tom came and quoted the gutter job and was able to schedule it prior to the holidays and bad weather (although I did feel bad for the workers who had to finish the final work in a cold rainstorm). Again: quick response for a detailed and accurate quote; good communication; great workmanship and immaculate cleanup. I contacted Tkd after getting a referral directly from Certainteed. After an overly long conversation, on the phone with Tkd, I can honestly say these won't be the guys doing it. I don't even want to waste my time getting a quote. The salesguy was repeatedly hesitant, doubted my word that I wanted the entire siding replaced, and repeatedly interrupted and talked over me. This was one of those awful mansplaining "conversations" that you just never want to get into. Period. Yes there are issues. Tkd was upfront saying he doesn't deal with houses that have siding issues because he doesn't fix the mistakes of others. Well that's fine, if you are in the business of building your own homes. However, Certainteed seems to think Tkd installs siding and is not a homebuilder. The salesguy himself waffled back and forth as to what business he was really in. To make matters worse, this allegedly located in the same town I live in, Reading, which has virtually no home building going on and actually has a fairly large historical district near my house. But I guess the salesguy, or whoever this guy was (he didn't really properly introduce himself), doesn't do business in the town where he is located. But I digress... The house was built in 1942 and several areas of the siding need replacement. And silly me wanted to replace it all with Certainteed polymer siding. I tried to explain this, and the various areas of the siding that need replacing and why (e.g., sunroom addition from 2 owners ago has issues, the 3 year roof had an ice damn that only leaked water behind the siding and not into the house, there is a leak in the siding from a 2006 a/c installation, and on and on thanks to the history of permits maintained by the town)... but Tkd salesguy was having none of it, preferring to interrupt me and talk over me. Tkd only does entire siding jobs, not repairs. Oh wait a minute... I wanted an entire siding job but I don't want polymer/vinyl siding slapped onto the issues since that disguises water leaks... as any COMPETENT vinyl installer should know (FYI - I installed vinyl clapboard siding with a group of volunteers on a Habitat for Humanity build, so I know something beyond a mere Google search). Tkd salesguy did listen just enough to say that they fix issues they find while removing the old siding... but then he continued on with his mansplaining about doing entire siding jobs and not fixing the mistakes of others. Hello? Bueller? Whether I ever go through to him is unclear... I told Tkd salesguy that they weren't the contractors for me and hung up the phone. There is no way I would hire someone who doesn't have enough respect to listen to a prospective customer.
