Avoid Vivian Lam if you are looking for a dentist who is personable or will help you feel at ease with being in the chair. She is dismissive and will try getting to work without even telling you what needs to happen. It's like you just show up, they slightly ignore your presence, and then she bolts without even talking about the work she did or giving you any after visit advice or to answer questions. The office was clean and well equipped. The receptionist was helpful. The specialty doctor was approachable and professional. The dental assistant was great. The bad part was the Smile Generation records system: the after visit summary can't be downloaded, and the aftercare instructions I was given were not appropriate to the treatment that I had. No option for zero stars. Unable to locate insurance information using SSN, continually ignored GroupID, and MemberID information. Had to call the dentist with my insurance provider on the phone, at this point they refused to look up any information since the SSN doesn't work, and indicated that my wife, whom the appointment was for, would need to see another dentist. This is during an emergency, where her tooth had broken, they saw her the previous day, and faced with any basic challenge completely abandoned any attempt to provide care, "suggesting" we contact another dentist - great, now during a time of emergency, we'll have to start over entirely, new xrays, more delays in appointments. I've used this dentist for my wife, myself, and my children in the past - i'd suggest steering clear, as they will abandon you at the slightest challenge. What an unprofessional "care" provider. a shame. read more

I had a credit of almost 500$ on my account and he decided to not give me that information. I'm am not sure why I have to beg for information to get accurate care. Dental is very expensive and even with insurance I'm paying thousands. It would just be nice to be treated like a human who deserves health care. I know this is a huge industry but you can't let yourself become desensitized. You need to do better. They don't even realize how important they are to people. Worst dental experience EVER. I went in for a cleaning and it was so weird. They had me do it in two separate appointments. The first appointment, one side of my mouth was cleaned, but a Hygienist never touched my mouth, but a whole lot of assistants and the dentist kept taking turns to "clean my teeth". The dentist also suggested that I need my mouth numb to do it so she gave me the shots. What? I've never needed numbing for a teeth cleaning. I think the dentist likes to add on unnecessary expenses. I went in for the second appointment, I went in and the real Hygienist cleaned the other side of my mouth, without numbing and zero pain. My teeth didn't look or feel any better. I feel ripped off and do not recommend this place at all! read more

Worst dental experience I've ever had! I'm pretty sure most of these reviews are fake tbh... Dr. Lam was disrespectful and is ready to drill as much as possible to make the most money possible! If you're going to this dentist you are probably wasting thousands. When I sat down after X-rays she told me what was needed to be done and that she was going to do it right then and there... RED FLAG! I've always had to schedule fillings after X-rays or cleanings never the day of. She said I needed a deep clean, multiple fillings and a root canal. When she went over the 10 things I definitely did not completely need and asked if I was ready I said "I need to talk to my Dad or partner about it" since I knew this was a crazy red flag! She said okay walked out and I didn't see her again... no goodbye or nothing. Then the "salesman type" front desk guy came in and printed out the cost of all the ridiculous things I supposedly needed it was over $3000 dollars!!! Anyways, I walked out knowing this was just some scammy dentist and went to my partners dentist instead. A WONDERFUL experience with a regular cleaning and turns out I only needed 2 fillings... the total for everything was $400. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR TRICKS! They will rob you.... read more

AVOID!!!!!! Everyone was very kind, but it was my first experience with them and the whole process felt extremely rushed. I had 2 cavities that needed fillings, but it ended up being a nightmare. Immediately after the appointment I was in so much pain to the point I couldn't let my top and bottom teeth touch. I ended up going back a few days later and Dr. Lam told me that the filling was too tall and it most likely cracked either the filling or the tooth...but never even bothered to check the actual problem and instead shaved down the filling and sent me out before I could even ask questions. Still in pain, I had to make a third emergency appointment before I had to leave for college the next day. Dr. Lam came in on her day off and I appreciated that, but the whole situation was extremely unprofessional and overall uncomfortable. We were the only ones in the building and she had me holding the tools for her while laying down, and told me there was not enough time for her to give me anesthesia because she had to go after. She made me feel like it was my fault for her mistakes that lead to me having to visit her 3 times in the span of 5 days. To end it all she then gave me a "special" toothpaste to help with the pain and made me pay $30 dollars for it. I am now at a new dentist and almost had to get a root canal to solve what Dr. Lam had created. She had neglected to properly clean my teeth while putting in fillings and it led to an infection/ nerve damage. It is frustrating because Dr. Lam had ignored my symptoms and descriptions of pain and failed to actually examine her work instead of making me feel like I was the problem and then leaving me with possible permanent damage. read more

It was my first time here and I had an amazing experience! When they say modern, they really mean modern. The technology seems very up to date and they take your x-rays and photos with the computer screen facing you so you can actually see what the doctor is going to be seeing. Dr. Lam was extremely helpful in explaining the films to me and what she was going to do before she did it. The cleaning procedure was pain-free and she was very efficient. The dentist assistant Ashley was friendly and the front desk receptionist was very accommodating with scheduling and explaining insurance. He spent more time going over my x-rays and areas to watch than my last dentist did. Even with a (less-fortunate) surprise need for three fillings, I was extremely pleased with the quality of service and care I received. Every member of the team was helpful and courteous, frequently checking in on my comfort level and updating me on my overall progress. It was my first time being able to see my own x-rays in the patient chair and being explained step-by-step the costs, procedure, options, and time it would take to complete each. I can finally not dread going to the dentist! Tigard Modern Dentistry is AMAZING! I have awful dental anxiety after a procedure from my youth so I am extremely picky about my dentists and hygienists. The office is extremely modern and comfortable. The Dr is amazing and really took the time to talk to me and go over any concerns, the assistants were very caring and did a great job explaining what they were doing and why, and the hygienist is not only sweet and has a great personality, she also gave me one of the best cleanings of my life! They went over the treatment plan with me, showed me pictures and X-rays, clearly went over the costs with me, and allowed me to pay easily while still in the chair which is MUCH easier than fumbling to pay after being numb. I wish I could join the others in giving a positive review of Dr. Lam. I've been going to Tigard Modern Dentistry for about 2 years for cleanings and periodontal maintenance. The whole time Dr. Lam would tell me how beautiful my smile would be if I fixed my two front teeth, which were stained from drinking coffee and tea, but otherwise nothing wrong with them. I wanted to give myself an early Christmas gift and talked to Dr. Lam about what the options were. I asked her about the price of veneers and she said that they were more expensive than crowns and that crowns were the better option. Dr. Lam lied. Veneers are not more expensive than crowns. Then, she used the most expensive crowns available without giving me the option of choosing myself. She never mentioned once that she could use CEREC CAD/CAM crowns for $ 890 each, but used the PREMIUM CEREC CAD/CAM crowns for $ 1075 each. Veneers would have cost me $ 895 per tooth. These prices are after the discount through my dental plan SMILE GENERATION. Unfortunately I trusted what Dr. Lam told me and did not double check the information she gave me. Before she put in the two new crowns we discussed which shade we would use. I asked her to please check my record to see which shade had been used previously, so all teeth would match. She said she would and proceeded to put in the two crowns in shade C1. After all was done I noticed that the two front teeth were much lighter than the rest of my teeth. I asked one of the receptionist to check my record and tell me what it said about the shade of previous crowns. She told me the notes in my record said C2. When I talked to Dr. Lam again and asked why she put in the wrong shade, she said, and I quote: " I don't know who could have told you that!". When I said that her staff had confirmed my suspicions that she did not check my record prior to putting the crowns onto my two front teeth, she reluctantly agreed to do the whole procedure over again. I had to sit in the dental chair for another grueling three hours. All this could have been avoided if Dr. Lam had done as she told me she would and checked my record before doing the procedure. So Dr. Lam lied to me three times. She said that veneers were more expensive than crowns. NOT TRUE! She lied by omission when she didn't tell me about the cheaper version of crown we could have surely used, because the natural teeth were only stained, but otherwise okay. And she lied again when she said she had checked my record before putting the crowns in. Dr. Lam is not trustworthy. She will do whatever it takes to put the most money into her pocket. I'm not having any more dental treatments done at Tigard Modern Dentistry and with Dr. Lam. I will not recommend Tigard Modern Dentistry to any of my friends and family. In closing I would like to mention that the staff there is awesome. They are very professional and friendly. read more

I see Dr.Lam and she is truly a gem. I have a crown issue that needs replacement they try to work with you to get an amount that is reasonable, more so than any other dentist I've encountered. Their practice does employ a hygienist that does excellent cleaning but Dr.Lam has done it personally more often which is something I haven't encountered in any other dental office. I find their office manager and lead dental assistant to also be personable, professional and extremely nice. Also they give out freebies not only have I received the usual nice bag of toothbrush/toothpaste/floss but a whitening kit and water bottle, for someone on a budget I appreciate the small things such as this. read more

I went in today for what I thought would be a typical cleaning. It was my first time and my last dentist was pretty burnt out and close to retirement. I can't say enough good things about the entire staff here!!! Was greeted warmly, and promptly taken back to the dentists office where she got know me better, before setting me up to get X-rays. They ended up cleaning, filling 2 cavities, AND creating a beautiful natural crown for my weird snaggle tooth I've had my entire life ALL in one visit! They also let me leave half way through to let out my dog. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a new dentist !! read more

Too tired to write a long review but put it this way- I've never had a cavity in my life and am extremely picky about my teeth and gums. I'm 36 and get cleanings every 6 months. I will definitely return the Dr Lam. She was funny, fun, knowledgeable and she cleaned my teeth herself which was actually the best cleaning id ever had! I don't rate 5 stars lightly. The other reviews HAVE to be fake. When I was getting cavities filled she went to do the shot to numb my mouth, but she stuck it in too far and injected it into my vein and I stopped breathing. Then when she actually did do the fillings, they were so close together floss wouldn't even fit between them, and the bite was off chunks broke off. read more
