There are several fairs are held in the Pavilion Gardens such as the Fine Food Fairs, Farmers' Markets, Art & Craft Fairs, Antique Fairs, etc. Also the tourism information center is there.

There is a pay and display car park at one side of the gardens, however as it is centrally located you can easily walk to it from most hotels and the town centre. For tourists new to the area, there is a Tourist Information Centre which will provide you with lots of information about Buxton and the surrounding Peak District area. Hundred of events are held within the gardens over the year, mainly located in the Octagon Hall. These included farmers markets and fetes etc. during my visit a few weekends ago there was an Art based festival taking place where clothing, photographs, jewellery, furniture and other art works were being displayed and some offered for sale. For those searching for a little more fun suitable for the younger generations, there is a large park fully equipped with swings and slides as well as a miniature train which offers rides around one section of the park. If you're wanting to stop for a short refreshment break there are plenty of places to pick from, including outside and inside cafes serving both hot and cold food as well as ice creams. On my next trip to Buxton I will definitely be heading back here as there was plenty of things I didn't get to see.

As a frequent world traveler, I have many times been to Italy and honestly, this was just run-of-the-mill for me. Though the food is tolerable (adequate is probably the word I'm looking for), the service has never been great. This is partially cultural, but partially just bad business. When I spend money to go out to a meal, I expect the service to be excellent EVERY time, from start to finish. Tonight's experience was disappointing, to say the least. The meal I shared this evening was with 13 friends whom again, I and my family see only once per year. When the waiter came to take my order, I started by ordering a water to drink as in the states, it's customary to give drink orders first when asked. The waiter berated me in front of the whole table, saying he was only taking orders for FOOD and REAL DRINKS not water. I said I was also ready to order my starter and my entree, and he tried to make a big joke out of it. I'm quite sure he didn't expect me to answer him back the way I did! My father was ready to walk out and leave, but again, we wanted to eat with this group. I was finally able to order, and not once during the meal were those of us with water asked if we'd like a water refill (though alcohol was freely offered and flowing amongst other table members). During our whole meal, it felt as if we were being rushed to order more or leave. As some of our party were waiting on their desserts, still I had to flag down a different waiter to get another water. Truly sad that a local "favorite" to so many folks lacks the customer service to ever get my business again. Truthfully, I was given better service at Nando's down the road just a few days prior than at this much more expensive, sit-down "authentic" Italian restaurant. Though servers are paid a more livable wage here in the U.K., unfortunately, in tonight's case, that seemed to translate into lackluster---if not rude---service towards a table that could have earned them a large gratuity.

This was authentic italian food. Very reasonably price.good, good service. Would recommend.read more

I went to a wedding at Arley Hall last week and it was a spectacular venue to get married…read more The only reason I'm marking it down to 4* is because as a non-driver and a singleton it would have been very expensive to get there myself, as the public transport links aren't great. Luckily, I got a lift to and from the venue with friends but otherwise it would have been £50 in a taxi each way. So that's the moan out of the way. The rest was brilliant and to anyone looking for a wedding venue, you should definitely consider here. The main house, where the ceremony and meal were, was very pretty. The food was very tasty, particularly the sticky toffee pudding. Service was also very good. The back where the pictures were taken is gorgeous and provides a beautiful backdrop for wedding photos - official or unofficial! The evening do was in the Olympia Hall which is a nice size. Has a bar, nice area for DJ/dancing and an upstairs bit with sofas and room for a photo booth. I'll put up a few photos shortly.

My friend and I had been on a 6 mile hike that started and ended at the hall, and it made for the perfect finish. The celeriac soup was delicious, but everything on offer looked great. Be mindful that they do stop hot food at 3, but we turned up at 3.20 and as they hadn't turned anything off yet they were more than happy to serve us. The cakes looked lovely too and if I'd have had room for dessert I would have had one without hesitation!
