It is like having lunch at your cool aunt's place. Homestyle fabulous! Compared to the other options nearby, this sunny little glass front cafe is a little piece of heaven. The ladies who own it are super friendly, and say hello by name whenever I stop by. They do fabulous catering, and their morning tea is to die for (warm just baked cheese scones.... savory tarts with cumin and kumera... excuse me, I'm drooling...) At lunch time they always have an assortment of interesting and healthy salads -- tons of vegetarian options, and you can mix and match as many as you want in a container. One of my favorite options of late is the spicy eggplant. It's half an eggplant that's been roasted, scooped out, mixed up with spices and whatnot, and put back in the skin. I LOVE eggplant, and this is as good as it gets!!! I always find it hard to resist their beautiful cakes. I tend to buy a slice with the idea of bringing it home to share with my husband for dinner, but sometime around my afternoon tea I end up starting to sample it. I've had the carrot cake, which was delicious, and another lemon cake thingy which was also to die for. Check out their Facebook page where they advertise their salads and other goodies for the day! Breakfast was good and sizeable - they have a number of cooked options, or you can pick up something quick from the warmers. I chose the mushroom breakfast and was rewarded with a heaping of mushrooms with egg, bacon and toast. The coffee was rather good also, and a lot better than I had expected. Flat white with good strength and body. The cooked breakfasts are around $10-13 so a pretty good deal. Plenty of tables and chairs both inside and out, free newspapers, and fast free wifi (just ask at the counter for the code). A good option if you are after a quick meal.

Roma are unabashedly a coffee roaster and coffee shop, rather than a café. There are a small selection of cakes & slices and a few tables and chairs but they know their focus. Beans are roasted on site (the operation on full display) and these are then distributed wholesale to other cafes around the area as well as to retail customers at the Drury site. The service at their takeout coffee counter is friendly & prompt; once you've made your way through the line to place your order, your coffee arrives very quickly. The house blend of beans is full-bodied and every coffee double shot unless otherwise requested. Ridiculously cheap compared to some Auckland cafes, it's easy to see why Roma Coffee Roasters is so popular.

I'm not much of a tea drinker but that really is the speciality here, and they even offer free sample of different, exotic teas to tempt you. The decor inside is so cute, they have heaps of tea and coffee accessories all over the walls, like stovetop espresso machines, teapots, cups, gorgeous little tins of all sizes and shapes for storing your purchases in, not to mention an impressive range of tea leaves and coffee beans that you can buy in quantities to suit. So it's also an excellent place to buy presents too, because, unlike the odd sauces and endless balsamic vinegars we give and are given and never use, tea and coffee are the kind of presents that will be used and enjoyed. You have to try the cherry pie when you visit, it's incredible. Also, the chef will happily make you up something if none of the counterfood is quite right (I always ask for some thing in a vegetarian version and they never mind).
