We used to LOVE going to Tic Tic every Spring when they opened and throughout the summer with our family of 5. However after last night's visit, Tic Toc will no longer get our business. We arrived around 5:30 to find no one at the counter- instead the two girls working were braiding hair at one of the tables. We waited patiently for several minutes after they told us we caught them at a bad time, until they came over--- approximately FOUR MINUTES LATER. We ordered our kids ice cream and were given nicely sized scoops on kids cones, but I ordered a small Sundae and was given half a scoop of ice cream drowning in hot fudge. My husband ordered the three scoop sampler and was given three half scoops of ice cream. The girl working literally leveled off the ice cream scoop. Combined- his three 'scoops' would have equaled on of our children's scoops. We were charged just shy of $15 for very little ice cream and a four minute wait, while we were the only customers in the store. Needless to say, we would have been more pleased with McDonalds ice cream than we were with Tic Toc. read more

First off, the ice cream is delicious. So I'm not here to complain about that. The reason I only gave 2 stars is because of the customer service and food safety concerns. I was in there Saturday May 4th. The two females that were working when I went in were friendly, don't get me wrong, but they talked way too much and were VERY slow at getting the orders to the customers. I'm all about being friendly and engaging with people, but when you stop working and are just talking about everyday things (not multi-tasking) when there is a line literally out of the door, that's a problem. I mean, it took the girl 10 minutes to make my very simple order!!!! And I was in line for over 30 minutes before that with only three people ahead of me. That's not good at all. If it weren't for the fact that I live thousands of miles away and was only in town for a few days, there's no way I would have waited that long. Now on to the second part..... Neither of them washed or rinsed their hands once in the hour I was in there. They weren't wearing gloves and had ice cream residue all up and down their arms. They were touching every surface, including cash and countertops, and weren't rinsing or washing in between orders. With dirty hands they cut up the banana for a banana split (which I was almost going to cancel my order when I saw that but didn't want to make a scene and I had already been waiting for over half an hour). I saw one girl put her fingers inside of some silver milkshake cups (four cups) instead of around the outside of the cups to carry them to the "blender" I guess you call it. What if someone was severely allergic to strawberries or nuts and the staff had that residue on her fingers that touched the inside of the cup, then proceeded to make a vanilla milkshake with that cup and give that shake to the person that was allergic? I understand that there generally isn't a problem preparing food with bare hands as long as those hands are kept clean and washed upon touching different surfaces. For example, I wash my hands, cut up some bananas, then touch a cabinet. The hand that touched the cabinet needs to be washed before touching food again. Precautions need to be taken to guard against cross contamination. I mean, having food residue all over your arms, touching cash, counter tops, and machinery then proceeding to cut and handle a banana without washing up is a huge concern. I'm generally a very open-minded and reasonable person, but the staff definitely needs to work on washing their hands and getting the orders out faster. You can be quick while not sacrificing friendliness at the same time. When you've got a line out of the door, that's when a "sense of urgency" needs to kick in. Think of how many people drove by and would have stopped but saw the line out of the door and just kept going. While I was there I was also looking out of the windows to the outside and saw at least 5-10 people walking by that looked as if they were going to stop, but saw the line and just kept going. Times that by every day you're open and that's a huge amount of missed revenue. read more

After a beautiful hike in the mountains of Tennessee, my clan and I developed a yearning for homemade ice cream. Yelp to the rescue! There were many places to choose from, but Tic Toc Parlor had the best reviews; one reviewer claiming to drive in all the way from Georgia just for their ice cream! Curiosity sparked, we set out to have the ice cream for ourselves. Tic Toc Parlor is nestled in the epicenter of a quaint town just off I-75. The parlor has that old time, country charm. We were lucky to make just 2 days before they close for the season. The young lady behind the counter claimed to have made the ice cream herself. We sampled the flavor most reviewers raved about, the Blackberry Cobbler. It was creamy and rich and just the right balance of sweet and tangy. That being said, I turned to my tried and true flavor, mint chocolate chip. It too, was creamy and had a generous portion of chocolatey chips. Though the ice cream was good. ..it wasn't "drive in all the way from Georgia" good. It was on par with Carvel or Baskin-n-Robin's, and for that reason I gave them 4 stars. Not the absolute best homemade ice cream I've had, but perhaps the best in the area. :) read more

We started coming here in 1999, when we were only visiting Tennessee. Now we live here and come as often as we can. Luckily for our waistlines it's a little bit of a drive! The ice cream here is SOO good. It has even been praised by Southern Living magazine! They make it in the shop, and have some of their own unique flavors, like Blackberry Cobbler and Blackout (VERY chocolate). I love their sundaes, especially the Dusty Miller (chocolate ice cream, marshmallow cream topping, malted milk powder on top). It's always very busy but worth the wait. read more

This ice cream shop is very much worth you visting. The ice cream is great and the employees are very helpful. They have a great variety of flavors and the fact it is housed in a historic bldg is great. Sometimes when you go there they may be very crowded but just have a little patience and they will get to you before long. When you have a good product the crowds are to be expected. Just hope they continue to be open for several more years to come and give all of us ice cream lovers more pleasure. The ice cream here is FANTASTIC! They make their own and the quality shows in every bite. I had the pistachio and it was choc full of nuts along with a little ribbon of extra sweetness; the salty-sweet combination was delicious. My dad had the blackberry cobbler, which I will definitely be getting for myself next time! The blackberry ice cream and ribbons of "pastry" were a really tasty combination. They even had a sugar-free selection for my mom; she said the sugar-free chocolate was excellent. I can't wait to visit my folks in Loudon again and try even more of Tic Toc's flavors! read more

It's hard to describe a place as "perfect" but this is about as close as it gets when it comes to ice cream parlors. Tic Toc is in a cute little old town square in the middle of the city. They offer homemade ice cream in just about any style you'd choose to enjoy it. This ice cream is much better than any chain we have in knoxville as marble slab, baskin robbins, and brusters can be a little too sweet. I really don't know what all the hype is about! After reading the reviews & seeing this parlor was featured in a magazine, my expectations were set very high. Upon entering, the first thing I noticed was... no a/c! Ugh, very uncomfortable. Second, after waiting in line, & it was my turn to place an order, I was greeted (or should I say, NOT greeted) by 3 unwelcoming, no smiles, counter help. It was like I was bothering them being there. Sorry for helping to support your paycheck. I stood for the sake of my children, otherwise, I really would've walked out. As for the selection, nothing at all to write home about. And as for the price, it's not like these are homemade ice creams. It's always worth trying a new place, you never know, you might find a gem.... this by far is NOT a gem. I'd rather buy Ben & Jerry's in the grocery store. read more
