The Red Cross responds to local disasters on a daily basis, such as house fires, which occur many times a day in Greater Central Florida. Teams respond with compassion, care, and assistance for those impacted by a disaster. Working with multiple agencies, the Red Cross makes sure that victims of disaster are set up with immediate care for temporary housing, food, counseling and so much more. This local chapter in Orlando has an amazing team in place, balancing logistics, client care, volunteers and also offers a plethora of courses to the community in a variety of fields, such as certification for CPR/First Aid and more. The road to becoming a certified volunteer is rigorous and there are many courses to complete, but so very worth the time invested. The surgical tech program here only gives you the AST certification...not an AS degree or the national board certification that most hospitals and surgical centers look at for their new hires. Besides that, my instructor MELISSA RODRIGUEZ was extremely unprofessional, lazy, and more childish than most of the students attending the program. She would gossip about all of the students and if you did not try to be best friends with her and kiss her butt every second of the day, she would turn incredibly rude and give you no guidance whatsoever. There were so many things that I needed to learn that she never showed the class. A month before my lab final she excluded me from practicing in the OR with her simply because she had negative, personal feelings towards me. I witnessed her enabling cheating from my other classmates and the list of unprofessionalism just goes on and on... Unfortunately, the director of the program, TIMOTHY LAMB seems to protect her unprofessional behaviors instead of doing the right thing by the students and hiring a much better, and qualified instructor. The social environment of the program, and especially my own classroom became so toxic to me that I made the decision to withdraw halfway through this program in order to protect my mental health. If OCPS knows what's good for them and the success of the attending students, they would do a complete overhaul of the surgical technology department. I am currently enrolled to start a much better program at another school in the near future. I can't say I didn't receive SOME type of learning experience from my time there! Now, onto better and more positive experiences.

I graduated there in 2019 and I have lost out on 2 jobs because they couldn't get a hold of these people to verify my course completion. Even taking into consideration the lowest of the low price, this school follow through and customer service is a freakin' joke. I can't speak on curriculum for every course obviously but for the nursing course the quality of the instruction you get is questionable honestly.

I'll be fair and review this via pro's and con's. PRO'S: The campus has WIFI, a library, bookstore, food and plenty of student services. The skills lab is a realistic learning environment with supplies and smart mannequins. You are walking distance from the hospital. You perform your clinical rotations and practicum at one of the Florida Hospital campuses. You are substantially likely to get a job where you perform your practicum so pick a floor you would like to work on and bring your A-game. There is always security on campus and a dress code. CON'S The cost per credit hour is expensive and they raise the prices annually. I paid more for my ASN than I did my previous bachelor and master degrees combined. The financial office is difficult to deal with and they routinely overcharge you so ALWAYS itemize your bill every semester. This is the only college I have attended that charges a matriculation fee every semester (now around $300). College loans will not coverage all of the courses so have alternate sources of financing. There is no parking on campus and you have to come earlier for class so you can park at a satellite lot and ride a shuttle bus to campus. If you like to dress risque and show off your wares, you will be told to go home and try again. If you have an issue with organized religion, this is not the school for you. You will pray before class and be required to take religion courses. The school is out to make money at every turn so be prepared to make unscheduled purchases. Become familiar with bargain shopping for supplies because you will pay triple through the university. My overall experience with this university was favorable and more often than not I was treated fairly. I paid out of pocket and my end goal was realized. I am now a nurse employed by Florida Hospital.
