I was upfront from the beginning: I'm a parent, my child is a beginner, and I don't know much about these instruments and accessories. I came in hoping for guidance, but instead I was met with one of the most uncomfortable and unwelcoming customer service experiences I've had anywhere. Both associates looked directly at me when I walked in and didn't greet me or acknowledge me at all. The younger associate was irritated from the moment I asked for assistance. He was cold, sarcastic, condescending, and kept asking questions that beginners or parents wouldn't reasonably know. Instead of explaining anything, he made me feel foolish for not already understanding details like viola sizing, and types of rosin, which is exactly why I was there asking for help. The older associate was rushed and immediately disengaged once he realized I wasn't buying an instrument. And to be clear, the store was completely empty at the time. They were not busy. There was absolutely no reason for this behavior. There was a moment where I genuinely wanted to just walk out and take my business somewhere else. And honestly, I wish they had simply told me they don't want to work with beginners or parents who need guidance. It would have been far better to be told that directly than to be made to feel embarrassed for not knowing something I came there specifically to learn. What makes this even more frustrating is that I went to another music store more recently, and though they didn't have what we needed, they were kind, patient, respectful, and incredibly helpful. They listened, explained, and treated me like a customer worth assisting. The difference was night and day. Music Center of Hawaii may carry items that other stores don't, but based on how I was treated, I would rather pay extra to order supplies online than step foot in that store again. I will never return. If you're a beginner or a parent trying to help your child, I strongly recommend going elsewhere or asking another store if they can order what you need. Customer service matters, and no one should be made to feel small for simply trying to learn.

I needed help with my baby girl, my acoustic guitar. I'm by no means an expert, and honestly,…read moredespite some experience on stage, I'd still barely call myself an intermediate guitarist, so when my acoustic's connections went on the fritz, I was at a loss for what to do. I asked one of my much more experienced and knowledgeable musician friends, and he instantly suggested BR Frets. He was then confirmed by another guitarist friend of ours who was hanging with us, saying they're hands down the most skilled people on island that they both know of, so I went ahead and made an appointment. Both friends said to expect a couple of weeks, maybe 3 depending on how busy they are, as they do get quite a bit of business, and to try and get an appointment when I can, so I did as soon as I could. I was greeted warmly by Chris, who asked me some pertinent questions, took a look at Hayley, and gave me a clear idea of what to expect; either he can fix her, which if he can, he'd try to do so that night. If he can't clean and repair the connections on my pick up, not only would they likely need to send out the pickups for diagnostic and repairs, but the cost to do so would jump up significantly, showing me how much the piece costs broadly and then factoring time and labor. Sure enough, I called the next day, as advised, and Wes said to come back on in to pick her up. I got there and spoke with Wes, who told me Chris stayed up a bit the previous night to make sure Hayley's good and ready to go, and she was back in action! They also only charged for the time and labor, which was more than fair for the quality they provided and all the relief they gave me. Definitely worth coming to them when guitar help is needed.
