I solicited bids from multiple contractors that returned prices all over the field. The biggest…read morecauses of variation were the quality of the material offered and the proposed method of construction. All wood regardless of use comes in various grades. Travis' mill of choice supplies what is called a "No. 1 picket" which is not void of knots, but for the most part they are smaller tight knots. Many contractors offer a "No. 2 and Better" which allows for more and larger knots, more through-cracking, warping, some soft rot, and other types of defects. I recommend you search online for images of the grading. You are going to pay more for the quality, but if you want fewer defects you are going to have to be willing to pay the premium. Travis also uses a metal post. This creates an impressive final look as the 2x4 rails are in line with the posts rather than screwed to the face of the traditional 4x4 which results in a bulky unrefined appearance. The metal post will most likely still be sound enough to replace the wood in the future as the post comes with an impressive warranty. It is even attractive from the "bad-side" which is a plus given most zoning requires the post and rails to be visible on the Owner's side. I offer a few words of caution when searching for a fencing contractor... 1) Most contractors use 4x4s, but many simply pack dirt and/or crushed rock in the hole or pour in dry concrete mix and wait for Mother Nature to add enough moisture; they do this because wet-setting requires time for the concrete to cure whereas putting them in dry allows them to blast through the project. These will move all over in the wind and with frost-heave. There isn't necessarily anything wrong with a wet-set wood post but it will not give you the finished appearance of the metal post. 2) The metal post is not unique to Bos Fencing, but do not be fooled into the promise of a long-lasting installation by a contractor simply because they use them. Some drive them in the ground 2-3ft instead of wet-setting them in concrete as Bos Fencing does. Think about it...a metal post driven in the ground 2-3ft with a 6ft "sail" racking in the wind is not going to be as stable as a metal post set in 100-150 pounds of concrete at the bottom of a 3ft hole. It's going to be a mess in a few years under harsh environmental conditions. I cannot yet speak to the longevity of the construction, but I can say the final appearance is of a high quality. Following the demolition of 385ft of deteriorated privacy fence his crew made the yard look like they were never here. Travis listened to my concerns and followed up when he said he would; that alone is better service than I received while soliciting bids from multiple contractors. I would recommend you entertain hiring Bos Fencing for your project. And, should you be happy as well, I recommend you drop a review for him as selecting a contractor for any service is a tough decision when you are often spending thousands of dollars.

After my first job with Mike I was super happy with him. However, I used him again and this time I…read morewas so displeased. It was not funny. We hired Mike to remove a bar and to fix the ceiling after a leak. He charged us $150 to remove the bar. He then told us that he would charge us $300 to put the bar back in place and fix the ceiling. We had told them at that time that we would be using wall paneling to repair the ceiling. We had wall paneling on the ceiling at that time in another spot. When it came time to do the repair Mike showed up on the first day but lost his keys in his car and spent the entire day trying to get his keys out of the car rather than calling a service to do it for him. So he blew the entire day. On Wednesday I don't know what time he showed up because I had an appointment but when I got home at noon he promptly left and didn't show back up and until late afternoon and only stayed for an hour. After which he had a allowed argument with his wife over speakerphone about missing Valentine's Day dinner. He then left my house and returned late afternoon the next day after I made several calls to him trying to figure out where he was after. He stated he would be there the next morning. Very little communication. This type of behavior went on for days. When the job was complete, Mike tried to charge us over $1,600 for putting the bar back in and repairing the ceiling. I might add that the ceiling portion was 3x 20 ft Wall paneling and then he had to put the bar back in spot which was in two pieces. At this point he had severely damaged many pieces of the bar and the assembly around it. He had also left pencil marks on the ceiling which for some reason he thought was acceptable. Mike is not a licensed contractor but actually a handyman. This whole ordeal spent over a course of 4 days. Something that should probably have taken place in one day. At the end my husband and I ended up completing the job ourselves because Mike didn't show up on the final day except to pick up his tools when I told him we finished the job ourselves. For the pictures you see below, he actually wanted $848. After completing the job he then told me that his price was $125 an hour and said that he had worked over 15 hours which he can't even account for because he was so spotty in showing up and not showing up and he would come and go and take off for his wife, his children or to go shopping or to eat or who knows what or are even for other clients in the middle of working for me. To me, this now meant he was changing the original price that he had given me from $300 to something more. I do not recommend this company or this person to anyone and I've included pictures of his shoddy work. I should also mention that Mike wanted to decide what materials to use in my house and when I said no he was very upset. I had to go down and explain to him that he does not get to decide what materials are used in other people's house. I told him I was using wall panels and a specific one and he said he wanted to use a certain type of product and spray paint it. When I said no he was very upset and said that his idea was a good idea and that the people buying my house would have liked his idea. I am an interior designer and I'm very good at what I do. My house sold in one week in this very bad market. Obviously I know what I'm doing. I'm also going to include a letter that Mike sent me that was extremely rude regarding his displeasure about using the materials he wanted.

Excellent. Very responsive to messages and very professional in the work completed. Definitely…read morewill seek him out again for any future projects.
