During a cross-country trip, my wife's vehicle suddenly developed a substantial oil leak and we took it in to have it looked at. I explained my situation and everyone in the service department was friendly and helpful, especially Sarah. She understood we were stopping through and stranded, with a toddler, until the repairs were complete. Sarah went absolutely above-and-beyond assisting in getting my family into a great hotel, to include picking us up and dropping us off. As a bonus, the repair was finished ahead of time. I was throughly impressed with the friendly and professional people there. If I lived here, my next vehicle purchase would certainly be from Thunder Basin Ford. read more

We just bought a $90,000 truck from here and when we got the keys, we looked inside of it. It was dirty. Wouldn't you expected to be clean and our salesman when we told him he said his girlfriend been in the hospital all day and he doesn't give a f He told me to go sign my paperwork and get the f out of here that's pretty ignorant for buying a new $90,000 truck. 3 attempts to get my Wife's car repaired here. 20,000 miles and they refuse to properly diagnose it. Service Manager completely dismissed us. Didn't care what we had to say, only what his Technician said. Car makes a horrible sound 9/10 times when you start it, along with a rattle you can hear. Factory warranty is still in effect, as well as a Diamond Extended Warranty. $36,000 car...they claim they wont diagnose the issues because warranty wont pay them for diag time. Treated awful by the service team here. They all need to look for new jobs, this place is a swamp of bad attitudes and people. Please, please sell out to someone else and do some house cleaning. The service department's customer service reps are thoroughly unprofessional. My vehicle was there 4 weeks and I received ZERO phone calls. When I would call, they might call back half the time and I'd get excuses instead of answers. No accountability, just blaming the other team, and their employees obviously don't work well together or communicate with each other. For 2 weeks it wasn't worked on at all yet I wasn't informed. Sales is 6 stars easily. We worked with Paul who was fantastic. He handled every concern we had and even took care of several things that weren't even truly his responsibility. Service is an absolute joke. Brought our vehicle in to have some things fixed that I pointed out at purchase, and was given the run around like I have never experienced before. I was lied to, bounced around service writers and given a different story every time I called to check on my vehicle's repair status. When I brought these major communication issues up to the service manager, he acted like he could care less and I was in fact the one who was wrong for being upset about it. Sadly this service dept put such a sour taste in my mouth I will gladly drive 2 hours to go elsewhere rather than give them business again. Somehow I doubt they care though. read more

I cannot truly explain how customer service oriented this Ford dealership is. From Steve the owner to Brent the service manager to our diesel mechanic (I feel horrible I didn't know his name) everyone was so friendly, helpful and above all kind. Our 350 diesel truck was having issues, we were hauling our fifth wheel and they were so incredibly helpful and got us back on the road in as short as time as possible. We were incredibly happy that we could continue our much anticipated trip through Wyoming from Illinois. We had our dog with us and everyone made us feel so completely comfortable in an uncomfortable situation; as we weren't sure if we would be able to continue our trip or not. The owner Steve offered to drive us into town to grab food & the service manager Brent kept us updated on our trucks progress.lThe diesel mechanic fixed our truck, took it for a quick ride to ensure that it would be safe for us to continue, and thankfully we were on our way to our destination in the shortest time possible. Made an appointment for 7 am to have recall work done. Told us it would take no more than an hour. Perfect, as we were going out of town that morning. 10 am still hadn't heard from them so we called and we're told they got busy but it would be done by noon. Showed up at noon and was told it was on the lift and would be just a few more minutes. Said that's strange because I parked next to it in the parking lot. Turns out it was never even started. Told them I was taking it with me and the lack of candor and communication was unacceptable. Got no explanation even after an email follow up from me asking what happened. read more

This place has terrible service. Two weeks they had my truck for a minor oil leak and minor recall. This was the third time for the oil leak that they had looked at and sent me home with saying it was fixed, when it was not. Their people are lazy, unconcerned and have little or no customer skills. There were several errors in them setting my appointment and then keeping track of it and then calling me to make an appointment after it was already scheduled. When my truck was finished so they said. I started it up to leave only to find engine lights on. They had to take it back in for another half hour. The service manager is a real jewel. I told him I wanted to speak to his supervisor and he would not connect me with that person or give any information about whom that was. I had to call the main line and ask to speak with this person. They of course were not in and never did return my call. So the management has no concern for their poor operation and will not contact a dissatisfied customer either. All par for the course. I will never go their again and will purchase my next vehicle and do service with reputable dealers in Spearfish or Rapid City. If you want to overpay for a vehicle and have non-existing service this is the place to go. read more

Fern Thomas reviewed Thunder Basin Ford -- 1 star 5 mins · While traveling from Washington to Maryland the engine blew up in our new truck even though it only had 19,000 miles on it. Ford had us towed to Thunder Basin. Upon entering the service area I explained to the Service Rep and the SERVICE MANAGER that we were traveling across country, our truck just stopped and we needed help. We had no vehicle, no place to stay, a truck full of guns, camping stuff and our dog. She looked at us and said, "Can't help you, Enterprise doesn't allow dogs in their cars" and proceeded to ignore us and move on to the next person. I was appalled by the rude treatment and replied that I could be nasty too. She then told me I threatened her and she did not have to service us to take our vehicle and leave. We called Ford and they gave us a "case number" and said to give it to her. She said she couldn't even get the truck in until Friday, this was Monday. Not once did she offer to get her manager or offer to try and get someone to help, she was the rudest, most incompetent, spiteful person I had ever met in a Customer Service position. I proceeded to look for a manager other than her and found Jason Lindhorst. I explained the situation to him and within 10 minutes he had us a room, at reduced rates, and a car from Enterprise with the condition we vacuum it before we return it. He was awesome, helpful, courteous, everything a Ford Manager should be. The Ford Corporate Rep, Tara Dew was worthless and thought our truck was in Sturgis instead of Gillette, we believe the only reason she returned our call was because the service rep from the dealer we bought the truck from called her, but even then she had no clue what was happening to the truck. The "Service Manager" kept telling us they were waiting for Ford to tell them what they should do, this was on Wednesday (how did she know this if she couldn't get it in til Friday?). No one would tell us anything. Finally on Thursday they called and said the valve train was trashed, then on Friday at 5pm the service manager called and said the truck was finished and we could pick it up at 8 am Saturday. We believe this late call was intentional to force us to have to stay in Gillette another night. We will give praise to the mechanic who actually put another engine in pretty quickly and was nice enough to leave us some of the part to show what the issue was. I do not know how this disgusting woman keeps her job but as long as she works there I would never purchase a vehicle from there or go to their service area with my vehicle. This dealership needs higher standards for their personnel. read more
