I worked at Thrive Therapy of Kansas for approximately four months. I realized very early on that…read morethe company has much nepotism and blatant favoritism. The company is based in Wichita. I was hired as one of two Case Managers to work out of a new Therapy Center in Topeka. When I started, there were two women who were there working from Wichita, for whatever reason one of the women did not like me. She tried to sabotage me every opportunity that she had. The other Case Manager and I did not receive training and were not given the scope or parameters of our position. All communication was through video or telephone call. We were told different things by different people regarding how to do our jobs. We were told to call to ask questions. We did not know what we did not know. I cannot speak for the other Case Manager, but I was told I was doing a great job for the first couple months. I had been doing the job as I had been told how to do it. I was there approximately two months when I was assigned a patient that had fired everyone who Thrive had sent to her. I was told by the original young woman who tried to sabotage me to attend a meeting with the patient and her Care Coordinator from the insurance company. I was not told what the meeting was about. I got there and was the object of being verbally attacked by this woman. I was lost and did not know what was going on. I was written-up for this meeting. I was told to continue to work with this woman. I tried to talk to her on the phone but she hung up on me and then called the company to fire me as her Case Manager. Before quitting, the woman had fired another specialist and Case Manager. Of all the people this woman fired, I was the only one written up. Shortly after being written up, the other Case Manager and I were sent a video from the owner of the company telling us what a terrible job we were doing. We had a team meeting a few days later via video. We were finally given written expectations about what we were supposed to be doing. I thanked the owner for the expectations as that gives me guidance on how to do my job. The meeting ended not with the realization that if both of us were not doing something right that it was their fault for not training us or telling us expectations, instead we were threatened that we needed to start doing our jobs. Our positions had been posted on indeed. I felt very threatened. We were told the position had been posted because it takes a while to hire someone to replace us. In the two weeks after that our immediate supervisor finally came to Topeka to train us on the new computer system. I had never worked for an agency that is for profit. I was not billing for things I was doing because I did not know they were billable. Once I was told what to bill for, I started doing that. When I was interviewed for the position, I was asked if I saw something in the patients' households I did not like what would I do. I told them if it was something like a dirty house or the such, it was not my business, however, if it was abusive or unethical, I would report it. There were a couple of situations that were brought to me of things that were happening in patients' homes that were not in the best interests of the patients and could ultimately cause them emotional harm in one instance and physical harm in the other. I was going to share information about these situations with professionals who could help the situation. I was told not to do so because we might lose them as patients. This was against my personal morals and ethics. It is not okay to put profits before the wellbeing of anyone, especially those who are looking to me, to what is best for them. In the four months I worked at Thrive, the owner had never been to Topeka. She had never seen me work nor had she ever had a personal conversation with me about the job. I continued to receive nasty emails from her and was treated with distrust and contempt. I had been told that the employees in Wichita are treated much better than the ones in Topeka. When the owner posted my position on indeed again, I was finally at my limit. I am lucky. I am in my mid-fifties and my husband makes enough money that I was able to quit. I accepted a job making less than half what I was making at Thrive. I have had three long term positions in my career before this experience. In my previous places of employment, I was promoted, well respected and in general treated well. I have never had an experience quite like this. The turn over rate is very high at Thrive Therapy of Kansas in Topeka. The people in Wichita often ask why. There is no leadership or supervision, no training and no support in Topeka.

I have been a case manager at Thrive Therapy of Kansas for almost a year now and in that time we…read morehave grown exponentially. With growth comes changes and sometimes a lot of them on a daily basis. It has been an exciting adventure and so rewarding providing care and resources to our patients. Owners have always wanted a safe environment for patients and employees and I have never been asked to do anything against my morals or ethics. As a case manager, we have always been encouraged to ask questions if we do not understand and I have asked many over the last year. Favoritism is not something I have ever felt in my time at Thrive Therapy. There are expectations of case managers wherever they are located to perform the assigned duties just as any other job would require. To be honest, there are oftentimes more expectations of case managers in Wichita because it is the headquarters, but I don't mind. I love each day and the fact that no two days are the same.
