People come from all over Brighton and Hove to eat here - and now I only have to walk a couple of footsteps to get it, how lucky am I!? It's a bustling pub, decorated in a traditional style, you feel like you are in a proper old boozer! Some people don't like this, but I do. There is a wide range of beers on tap, including various craft beers and my favourite, Blue Moon. Lots of specialist gins too. Upstairs there is a separate cocktail venue called the Speakeasy that is only open on weekends. I haven't tried it yet but I plan to very soon! Overall it's a great pub.

However, there's nothing wrong with the service or layout and as such it's perfect for an informal meeting or one-on-one chat. They serve stone baked Pizzas from 12-3 and then 6-10 on weekdays and also dish up a hearty Sunday roast, all at an affordable price. If you totter down on a Monday night you'll be offered the chance to take part in their weekly quiz, which starts at 8pm. The upstairs section is probably the pub's highlight as it looks down Holland Road towards the sea. Its décor has a certain threadbare extravagance that makes for a slightly more interesting drinking experience, however this doesn't hide the fact that The Wick Inn has the potential to be a much better place. At the moment it is a simple boozer but with a touch of creativity it could easily be turned into something special.

They sell single bottles and six packs of everything from Sol and Corona to fruit flavoured beers, ciders and ale. They also sell about a dozen different varieties of vodka from Absolut and Stolichnaya to Grey Goose. The reason I go however, is they're one of the few shops that sell my favourite tipple - seven year old, Havana club rum. The only question is, cuba libre or mojito?

The new layout makes it feel a bit cluttered in places and if they are stacking the shelves no effort is made to get out of the way of the shopper! It does have a lot of your basic food and drink needs with options for pets food. It is a large convenient shop so can fit a lot in which will mean you will probably find what you need, therefore being convenient. However, I think that this shop abuses the fact that it is the only large shop in the whole village and has therefore set prices a bit higher than the norm which I think does put some people off certain products.

I've been in there three or four times - a couple at Christmas, once or twice before my Dad's birthday - and bought really really good wines there. If you want to talk wine and get good advice, the staff have consistently impressed with their knowledge - these are passionate wine people who love their subject. Equally the notes and organisation of the wines means that you can successfully grab good wine even if, like me, you only half know what you're doing. They have the mainstream fine wines you'd expect with lots of representation from the New World and regional and unusual wines. A great little shop.

The range comes from the Mediterranean, Middle east and Asia. Freshly baked breads and pizza baked while you wait! There is hot roasted chickens. There is a deli counter. Halal meats are prepared in-store. Supplements are also available. This store is priced for all pockets and worth checking out.
