At the St. Joseph one you can get 5 for a week and they want to charge you $1 a movie like you don't pay a ton in taxes as a resident. There were puzzle sets, stuffed animals, magnetic tiles, Legos, rocking horse, and a reasonable selection of children's books. The children's book seem a bit "disorganized" because there was one long set of shelves right next to the children's section and then two rows down would be another long set of shelves with more children books. Nonetheless, our girls had a good time and we spent at least an hour there to play and read.

They seem to take good care of the cd and dvd collection. There's usually some extra stuff going on at the library. They have a huge community bulletin board of events. Every 2-3 months they host a blood drive, and there is always a craft and a scavenger hunt available for kids. With your library card you also get a limited membership to Hoopla and Kanopy, for digital resources. There is an automatic renewal if no one has reserved the item and a generous grace period.

I contacted the author with the missing books and got about 6 books sent for free to me to donate to the library. The YA series Replica? That's mostly complete because of the author. That's the great thing about loving your local library: you can choose to make it better. I did reading events here as a teen (including being able to spend the night), listened to story time as a child and recieve my first library card here on a school field trip in elementary school. No unemployed dirty panhandlers like at the downtown branch, and no mothers with 4 kids screaming while they are on the computer. Maybe a tad smaller then some of the other branches, but the decor is like I am in someones private book collection. Very user friendly. And is is in such a private, almost secret location, over in the corner by the gas pumps by the Meijers store on Cleveland. Be nice to yourself. Read a book everyday. Help America be smart!

I came here for my nephew's first birthday party. He's really into books and reads a new one each…read moreday, so we figured what better place to have his birthday than at the library. Little guy kept trying to run away from his toys as they were being unwrapped.. I'm pretty sure a book caught his eye when he came in the door, and he was trying to check it out before the library closed. Thankfully the library has a really nice sized room that they rent out for community events. The calendar showed there were yoga classes offered weekly as well as other community offerings. When not booked, the library rents out the room for people to have graduation parties and, in our case, a first birthday party. I also saw a piano in the room, but my nephew prefers the drums over the piano, so he didn't put on a show for us. He did make a mess of his cake though, so the kitchen area with the sink came in quite handy. Those of us who were there to observe had plenty of space to sit and snack thanks to the tables and chairs that were in the storage room just off the main room. I really like it when small towns have a community center or a rec room for events just like this. It's a heck of a lot easier than cleaning your house or trying to find a restaurant that can accommodate everyone. Here, people could walk around and chat with one another and still be able to see everything that was going on. DEfinately an A+ in my book.
