As the name of this cemetery implies, its residents are almost entirely Hispanic. The majority of the graves are from the latter part of the 20th century and many are from the last 20 years. The oldest headstones that I could find dated from the 1940s. The good news is that if you're looking for your forever home, there's still room available here. Not only is this still an active cemetery, but it's quite clear that many surviving family members continue take care of the graves of their loved ones. The photos below clearly show their devotion.

The small 1 acre cemetery site sits on a sloping hill with a great view of the Austin skyline. Behind the cemetery are many acres of undeveloped land at this point. What is interesting about this cemetery is that there are no headstones above ground. All the headstones lay flush to the ground for mowing purposes, and after walking the property, I counted close to about 100 headstones or more. The majority of them sit on the east side and they are predominantly from the early to late 1960s. The graves on the west side are from the 70s through the 90s. The markers from before 1970 are cast in concrete (found a couple in granite in 60's) while those after 1970 are chiseled in granite. The ages of the decedents here vary from the young to the old. This may no longer be an active graveyard since the last head stone was laid in 2002. The photos in this review tell the rest of the story.

I almost gave up looking for this cemetery because of its remote location. Google maps has it at…read moreone location when in reality it's almost a quarter of a mile away. It's very close to Highway 20 and Shiloh Road, which is just on the outskirts of Bastrop, Texas. In order to find it, you'll have to turn into a school parking lot and then very quickly veer left onto a single lane dirt road and follow it about 1000 feet until you arrive. This is still very much an active cemetery for the local residents. It sits on about 3 to 5 acres and still has additional room in case you're interested. After scanning many of the headstones, it is primarily an African-American cemetery judging by the headstones and porcelain portraits affixed to those markers. It has a single gravel road that dead ends at the back of the cemetery. There's a lot of randomness as to how the graves are arranged with lots of flowers left by loved ones. I did not spot any headstones from the 1800s, the vast majority are from the latter part of the 20th century and on. There were a few service members buried here and most of the graves have granite headstones, but some are in the cheaper cast concrete. It's a quiet place, but you can still hear the traffic on Highway 20 not far away.

This well manicured cemetery has both old and new graves within its perimeter, the newest grave being from 2021. It is a site that is recognized by the Texas historical commission and there is a posting of all the graves listed here. Many of the graves here or of Swedish descent and apparently there was a church at this location until it was torn down decades ago. This location was originally called Decker Swedish evangelical free church and cemetery until it's name change in 1952. Only about 2/3 of the area consists of graves with 1/3 still available for future burials. This is a nice picturesque place surrounded by undeveloped land and a cow pasture at the rear. This cemetery serves the small community of McDade. There are quite a number of headstones from the turn of the 20th century, but there are many newer ones, including some very recent burials. For the most part, the headstones are neatly arranged in columns with designated family plots and there is a gravel road with a few entry points. This is still an active cemetery with several new recent interments and there's plenty of room at the rear of the cemetery to accommodate hundreds more. The cemetery seems to be relatively well cared for although there are some toppled stones within the 6-8 acre property. The oldest headstone that I could find was from 1904. There are quite a number of service members buried here, including a confederate one. After looking at the headstones, I did not spot any particularly notable names of local Texas history.

There are two photos below of Texas historical signs which you tell you you all you need to know. It's immediate neighbors are a Dollar General, the village hall, and the Ebeneezer Church. There was one other grave cast in concrete about 10 feet from the main plot. It was hard to read with very little information. It's basically just 50 x 100', but there's still enough space to bury at least a dozen or more. This cemetery is several miles north east of Manor and many of the people buried here were from the early Swedish, German and Danish settlers of the small town of Kimbro. There appears to be about 50 to 60 people buried here. Most of the graves are fromthe early to mid 20th century and the newest occupant was laid to rest here in 2013. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the graveyard itself has been well-maintained over time. There's not a whole lot more to say about this spot so I'll let the photos tell the rest of the story.

This is one of those small Texas towns that has for the moment escaped the growing urban expansion…read more It is far enough away from Austin that you will not experience any traffic problems, homeless population, crime, or constant construction. This town is so small that you can ride a bike from one end of town to the other in a matter of minutes, not hours. It was founded as a railroad town in the early 20th century, and there is a Texas historical sign included in the photos below for more information. This is one town that also brags about one famous barbecue place called Snow's barbecue, although it's only open for a few hours on Saturday. It does have a small city center where some businesses surround a small patch of green space downtown, but there is no turn-of-the-century large red granite courthouse here like some towns. It's a quiet town with both an elementary and high school complete with a public park that boasts of four baseball fields. For the most part, this is a quiet community and if you're looking for a place to settle down or retire, this town could be a good choice. 10 informative photos for a little insight.
