This place is very close knit, not only with employees but with the "neighbors" as well! I love all of the familiar faces that stop by to shop. I've even gotten close with some of my regular clients. They trust me to take care of their baby and there's no better feeling. This place is a great pet store in general because it's easy to navigate. Always well organized, and they price match! We have a low cost vaccination clinic that comes in monthly. And I think it's a great asset for the community. There's also a self service dog wash that is nice for those quick baths or muddy puppies. Plus, we clean the mess! It's very affordable with $10 a wash! Or you can pre pay washes on a punch card and it's cheaper! Management here is phenomenal, I've worked in some pretty terrible situations with poor management in the past. They are not only kind and understanding, but they listen. They are always willing to go above and beyond for our "neighbors" too. And that warms my heart. Making a customers day is the honestly the best part of my job. Whether it's when they pick up their dog from grooming and they are overjoyed by how cute they are, or assisting one with a product, question, information, and they are so grateful for the knowledge we provided. I, along with fellow coworkers are always reading and learning more about animals. Especially dogs! We love to help out everyone with nutritional advice, grooming, training, even guide them in the right direction to veterinary care, whether it's a local clinic we all use and trust or our low-cost that comes in. This place really has it all. For all price points, level of knowledge and more! I've never been in a more understanding, nonjudgmental, caring work place. One of them is so impossible about having her nails done that they were in really gnarly shape by the time we gave up and called for help. My doggies are in amazing shape (so fluffy!!) after just 30-40 minutes each, and they're obviously happier after their little "spa" visit. They look and smell so nice, everyone just wants to snuggle them! Over the years, I've tried out most of the groomers in this area, and nobody else holds a candle to their customer service. They're always genuinely friendly and professional. Most groomers have come across a dog like this in their careers. His 1st groomer did well with him but is in South Carolina. His 2nd groomer told us that if had been her dog that she would have taken him to be put to sleep. When we explained our situation to a 3rd potential groomer, she told us she'd charge more with each nip or bite. We were heartbroken to think that nobody could deal with our little poodle. He only weighs about 6-7lbs! We ended up trying to groom ourselves which left him looking not so good and us frustrated. That was until our neighbor pulled up with her sporty little schnauzer with a snazzy new haircut. We told her of our woahs and she recommended Close Companion. We were astonished that the groomer reported that the dog behaved pretty well (we implored her to be honest). He looked GREAT and he knew it strutting around in his new haircut. Even though we have moved away from the Yorkville area, we will still make the trip out there for our grooming needs. I feel confident that they treat our dogs with care, kindness, and respect. I do not worry that the lil guy will get hurt or be mis-treated. Our neighborhood now is extremely dog-friendly and we tell people that it's more than worth the drive. Close Companion does very professional work and more than reasonable rates.
