Animals And More…read moreoccupies the space that once was an old-fashioned movie theatre called the Eagle, as the building still retains its old overhanging facade, though the lights have been removed. Instead of the movie title, the sign reads "Animaland" in colorful letters. The interior has been converted into a store specializing in a wide variety of unusual stuffed animals and toys. There's also some interesting books for kids and some fancy model cars that grownups who appreciate classic cars would love. They have a "Build-a-Bear" like stuffing machine for making your own stuffed animal. However, the place is not a rip-off or way overpriced like the name-brand DIY stuffed animal shop I mentioned. This is a family-run business and the people behind the counter are as nice as can be. My older son found a book on tornadoes and hurricanes that he picked out and my younger son found a stuffed turtle that compelled him to rub its plush shell with his hand and suck his thumb simultaneously. They also have these really long sleep shirts my wife likes. Her favorite shirt depicts a bear wrapped around from front to back that reads "Bear Hug". No place else carries some of these products. Well worth a visit if you're in Eagle River.

I've been here 6 times now. Sometimes 300 vendors and sometime 400. Memorial Day through Labor…read moreday. Starts at 8 am and we got here at 8:02 and had a hard time finding parking. Lots of cars parked on the road already. This was in July. Update: came again August 24th, 2026, and easily found parking at 8 am. Not that many people so easy to walk around and look at booths. Two more markets left for the season as Labor Day is the last one.

I especially liked that many of the booths were shaded under big trees. Plenty of food trucks and snacks too. Bring cash as most stalls didn't take cards. I like Coda, the bookstore dog, though I usually prefer bookstore cats. I asked Coda to show me around, and as if she understood she took me to each room, then returned to near the checkout counter where I think her main job is to greet people coming in. When I discovered this gem I was beyond delighted and they didn't disappoint me in the least! The individual rooms in which to wander are made magical as the shelves are marked using old Scrabble tiles. This is because the owners are super-dooper creative. As well as knowledgeable and hospitable. And funny. They share their sweet dog Coda with each guest and to this date she hasn't tinkled on a single customers shoe! However I think the owners should teach her to do that for the few shoplifters that have sullied the place. The kids room is amazing and each child that finds the secret room is transported to a magical place all their own. As a member of the senior crowd I'm VERY grateful for the neatest, most creative bathroom in the entire town! My first visit there it was the FIRST room I needed to find. As I sat there meditating to the sound of the clapping of one hand I just KNEW I was in for a treat with the rest of the store and I sure was! Besides the great selection of books (which I think are priced almost too low) you can find a few collectible/antique offerings as well as other goodies like snacks and greeting cards. Take the kids and wander in. I promise you won't be disappointed. But be prepared...they are located right next door to McDonald's.
