With an open view out to the water I visited on the first day of a long weekend and the vibe was relaxed. Coffee arrived with a layer of milky foam I was frothing to drink it and it didn't let me down. Flavours were subtle and it went down smooth and easy. Food was a delicious umami delight. My order was the Madcowes Hash ($18), the large croquette was crispy, kasundi mushrooms meaty, egg soft and oozing offset nicely with crisp watercress. Looked good and tasted great .. olive oil was so fresh it was almost fluorescent green! Grab the bull by the horns and pop into this cafe when you're next in this small seaside town. Papers a plenty! I sat, saw the waitress passing in front of me and watching me two times, and after 5 minutes without getting any intention (at least maybe, giving me a menu?) I decided that, well, maybe it was enough. THANK GOD (or whatever I don't believe in) because I ended up here instead ! Decided to go healthy (that's impressive Pierre) and had the Mad Cowes chicken salad (as you could see in the pictures) and it was a freaking good as it looked awesome ! The seasonning was just perfect, the chicken was not dry at all, and... I HATE THE CUCUMBERS (ALL OF THEM) You don't know me, but it's a big deal, if I say to my friends that I ate cucumbers, they would die instantly. It's like Superman eating Kryptonite, or... Batman eating his dead parents ! We had to wait for the food for at least half an hour. However, we would recommend this place to everyone....specially for kids...they had amazing waffles dishes.... As well as the buildings they are working on reverberating the surrounding fields to make it somewhere not to miss whilst on the island. Make sure to reserve via email or by phone! The staff where lovely and the food was delicious. Having ordered 'The Full Basket', a big breakfast, you find yourself eating exactly what you expect and best of all they locally source all their ingredients; boasted on their menu. Tasting other things on the menu with my family, we where all delighted to say we would definitely come back. The setting is delightfully bright with windows facing the oceans. It's a little noisy of anything but they it is in the renovations to come. We where lucky to be one of a couple table in the room to really enjoy ourselves. Looking forward to having lunch here next time.

The coffee was decent, I needed a touch of suger as it was a little on the bitter side but I can be a tad fussy in that sense. The food was actually delish, well sized & reasonably priced. The only reason it didn't get five stars was I question the cleanliness of the place, just the small things like cutlery , tables not wipped & well I may have found an eyelash in my eggs BUT I'm sure I've eaten more eyelashes than I am aware of. So nothing outright dirty or to write to food services about, again I'm slightly fussy with cleanliness so others may not even have noticed these small things. If you are down Phillip island way & are after a hearty breakfast, get in there.

Love a breakfast adventure. Coffees were strong and as ordered. You may choose a classic cup or a 'mug'. Friendly service and a great choice of side tables to people/dog watch too.
