I would say it could take between 30 minutes to an hour depending on how many people are there or how long you stay in one area. There is a photo op room first; they say it's two but really one large area where a worker (our girl was funny as heck) will help you take photos and offer suggestions. There are a few other rooms with different aspects that are super cool or interactive. I'd share exactly but wouldn't want to ruin the surprise. They also do a "scavenger hunt where you take a photo of the item and at the end get a surprise. It's just a small kids trinket (like a squishy). They could use some updates and fresh paint. Biggest suggestion is having a broom for the confetti. Picking them up with your hand was gross. It's definitely a one type thing but still fun. Overall enjoyed our experience.

I would give the maze a 6/10; it was decently fun, but would've been better if there was just more to it and it was longer. *they take and hold purses/bags with them behind the counter while you're in the maze; you get your purse back before you go upstairs though* As for the Selfie/Funhouse, I definitely loved the concepts/themes in the different rooms and the trippy aspects in each room. I recall there were only 4 rooms and a few decorated/themed walk through halls. I would give it an 8/10; I thought it was pretty cool. Definitely felt like it could've used a few more rooms/interactive areas. For what they provided though, I would say it was a pretty decent experience. You definitely go through the entire thing in about 15-20 minutes, so just like the maze, not very long; really just in and out. After doing it once, I don't see myself going back again unless they were to add some new aspects to the place. My overall rate of experience : 7/10

Much work and additions really added to the experience. We chose a non-holiday weekend day to visit to avoid the long lines. That choice were well worthwhile. It was busy. But the long lines to enter were not prohibitive. The improvements and added exhibitions were wonderful. My favorite was the Sting Ray petting pool. A child, who must have been a regular, taught me the trick to get them to come close to the surface when they approached you. It worked! I could have stood there forever if not for the people waiting for a spot. Another favorite was the raised glass floor for the Gila Monster habitat. It's similar to the Penguin habitat at the Long Island Aquarium with a bubble for a child to stand up in and feel a part of the experience. My Grandson has grown a lot but was still able to get under the floor and stand up in the bubble. Needless to say, the Gila Monster wasn't gregarious like the Penguins in Long Island. A very sad and devastating fire recently occurred in the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation section of the Aquarium. They are working to determine how to repair and even if it can be repaired. The sea turtles are currently residing in the Aquarium Veterinary Center. Local Veterinarians are also assisting. If you happen to be in Virginia Beach, the Virginia Aquarium is definitely a must-see. I can't wait to experience new exhibits that are added.

The glass or any surfaces looked grimy and cloudy from all the toddler slobbers and sticky hands. Just yucky in general. I would probably never return given the experience I had. I especially don't recommend it to those who have issues with sensory overload, noise sensitivity, claustrophobia, or get overwhelmed by crowds easily. You'll have to stop at a checkpoint and then check in. When you check in, they hold your ID at the parking area until you return. You'll take a small bus to the lighthouses and gift shop. The climb up the old lighthouse seems intimidating, but it really wasn't bad at all, it just got a little cramped up at the top, especially if people are trying to go up and down at the same time. Once you go through a TSA like process and show you ID 3-4 times, they take the ID for your ticket. Then you are shuttled in by a van. The driver was nice enough and they do come around often to take you back to get your idea. I do NOT recommend doing this if there is any line to get through. It is a slow process. There was no one else in the screening shed and it was SLOW. Plus it must be a hang out location as well because when we got back there were 4 people laid out in all the chairs in there just hanging around. Good lighthouse- unfortunate location

The free museum inside the building has Norfolk history, battleship history, port of VA info, and naval history. There are many interactive exhibits. It has plaque describing the contribution of Sidney Kellam King Neptune VI in forming the city of Virginia Beach. It just sits on a concrete extension of the broad walk, a bit underwhelming for such historical landmark. The field across the statues is open to public. People just walk around while going in and out of the beach sand. Bunch of restaurants and shops are nearby to grab food and drinks. The theater is used for scheduled special events. But while visiting the park I noticed few of random people were just sitting on the stage. It felt little sketchy but there was plenty of foot traffic since there was beach shower faucet right across the Neptune statue and the park.

I had mentioned this to one of my students, and she suggested I visit Ferry Plantation House. I planned a tour with her as I was interested in their ties to Grace Sherwood and stories of paranormal activity. The tour did not disappoint, and I'm always interested in history when it is presented in creative ways. I appreciated that they include tales of the slaves that were a part of the plantations past. As for the paranormal, I felt very drawn to a particular tree on the property. Though, nothing felt menacing, I did get pushed on the stairs after visiting an upstairs room where a former slave women spent a lot of time with the children of the plantation. The push was on my leg leading me to believe it could have possibly been a child. Lastly, I did stop by the gift shop at the end of my tour. My favorite purchase was a Ferry Plantation tea blend. It's worth a visit if you are interested in Virginia Beach history or the paranormal.

While researching I cam across the story of Grace Sherwood (not going to ruin it) which lead me to the plantation. After researching it I decided it would be a great place to drop by to put the story in motion. Since it is fall and almost Halloween I knew my stepdaughter would love it. We unfortunately could not get tickets as I waited last minute so we couldn't go into the house but just roamed the property. They have signs all around of historic significance and just seeing the house puts everything into perspective. I will definitely be back to tour the inside of the house and we heard from a volunteer who was arriving as we were leaving they do tours on Thursdays and Saturdays as well as was in the process of setting up for an event (some kind of funeral/mourning) that they do every year. If we lived closer we would definitely attend. No matter if you believe in the paranormal side of things or not it is still a great place of history located smack in the middle of some beautiful million dollar homes on the waterfront.
