I think they are one of the worst you could find in Sheffield. When I first arrived at UK, I had less than a week to find a home and visited a few agencies and saw a number of flats. Then I chose the most convenient one for my university location, which was from this company. So, the issues I want to start with starts here: - The agent suggested us to include the bills into the rental contract and we agreed. After 3 months, he called and asked for extra money because they bills were more than we pay for (£150 extra per month). I went to the agency and we measured how much we pay to the company and how much the company paid for the bills. And we found out that we paid £192 MORE THAN THEY PAID FOR OUR BILLS!! I think it is clear that they were trying to rob us. - The house had many problems and we could find almost no help from this agency. The fire alarms were going off for no reason at all in the middle of the night, and we could not stop it. We tried to seek help for weeks. They said they will visit us but no one ever came for WEEKS. Then I decided to detach them because we want to sleep at nights and placed the alarms in one of the drawers at home (I know I should not have detached them but imaging having this random ear-splitting sound almost every night for at least 5 months, and finding no help about it). I told them about this and they came our home without letting us know, and SCRUTINIZE OUR DRAWERS WITHOUT LETTING US KNOW. Appearently they have no respect for personal privacy or comford. - There are automatic lights in our cabinet (for some reason). They are supposed to turn on when we open the door but they never did. They turn on when the door is closed and we walk in the other room, but they do not turn on when we open their door and wave our hands around its sensors. Also they make a sound when they turn on. When I am sleeping and its door is closed, if I move my arm inside the bed it turns on. So I tried to ask for help about this too. It took more than a year for them to come. And when they came, they have just detached the lights, told us that someone will come, but no one came. So we do not have any lights in the cabinet rooms in our home now. - My friends, living in other tenancy agencies' houses, are never asked to increase the rent for 4 years. But at the end of our first year, they wanted to increase our rent twice as more than the inflation rates in the UK. I can go on way more than that but the point is; I think all of their services are rip-offs. They try to take extra money for services they didn't do. If you rent a house with them, you might not get any help from them, and your house will most probably be overpriced. read more

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. I would strongly recommend to anyone looking to rent property in Sheffield to avoid renting with Thornsett, based on the extremely poor standards in the following criteria: VALUE Rent was more expensive than that of other properties we investigated, despite the furniture and appliances being of very low quality, such that many pieces of furniture were prone to damage. The property was not completely furnished on moving in, requiring us to buy bins, a mop, a dustpan and brush, a kettle, a toaster and other standard bedroom appliances. CUSTOMER CARE This is a tricky one to write about, because I want to avoid making personal attacks. So, without naming any names, the manor of the staff was incredibly rude during experiences in the office such as signing the contract and handing in post-dated cheques, as if once we had signed, they had no time for us. When phoning up seeking help regarding the deposit release procedure at the end of the tenancy, I was literally not listened to (really, I had to repeat my exact words over the phone) and then effectively told to go away. They tried to conceal from me vital information for claiming the deposit back. Secondly, Thornsett illegally had maintenance done in the flat without the permission of the tenants, or even advance warning. This happened multiple times. Thirdly, when a window in the block was smashed by a brick, Thornsett did not have it replaced for some weeks. And even though the block was in a very high crime-rate area of the city, they did not make any attempt to find the culprit of the criminal damage despite having access to CCTV mounted a foot above the window in question. DEPOSIT RELEASE PROCEDURE As said above, the staff at Thornsett made it incredibly difficult for me to claim back our £900 deposit. Firstly, with their unpleasant correspondence, and secondly, with their lack of information in their official moving-out guide. And thirdly, with their determination to deceive their tenants into believing it to be impossible for us to actually claim back the deposit. To cut a long story short, Thornsett effectively asked me to provide them with irrelevant information, in response to proof with which I had provided them regarding the final payments of utility bills. They released the deposit eventually (three weeks after I had provided them with the correct proof - an official certificate produced by our utilities provider), without the need of any of the extra information they had since requested. I'd imagine that, by providing me with such poor and irrelevant excuses, they were trying to delay the release for as long as possible. Overall, my experience with Thornsett is one that I will try to never repeat. The use bullying tactics to take advantage of students who rent their poor-value accommodation. I hope this review can help Thornsett improve on their currently sub-standard service. read more

They let student properties and the owner has no respect for students. He was extremely rude to us over different issues. It was an expensive property for what was offered and even though it appeared nice there were many underlying problems like extreme damp in some bedrooms. I must credit them for resolving problems sort of promptly but the "solutions" were always short-term and cheap and in some cases the sheer number of repeated poor solutions meant the problem wasn't actually fixed for a long time or at all. In all, the staff were nice and helpful but the owner and the property were not good and I would definitely not recommend them! read more

AVOID. House was expensive for the quality (which was very poor). Although prompt to respond to issues during the year, they were rude and awkward when it came to needing deposits back. They told us to remove furniture that was already there when we moved in, and simply said 'We've heard it all before' when queried. Would NOT recommend. Blatant bullying techniques. read more
