Mount Dora is a lovely town, and there are clearly lots of dog lovers here--but this park is a nightmare. We just arrived, and my dog was running around, excited to explore. Then he sat down... right in another dog's poop. I had to rush him to the car to clean him off. Absolutely gross and completely unacceptable. Yes, the park has three separate fenced areas for different dog sizes, and yes, each has a shaded terrace. But by the time you reach the terrace, you're stepping in so much dog poop that it doesn't even matter if it's shaded. You're going to have to turn right back around and clean off your dog and your shoes. Do not bring your dog here. Let the people who live in this neighborhood deal with their own mess. Unless your goal is for your dog to step in or sit in poop, this park is not worth your time. The good things about this park are completely overshadowed by how unclean and unmanaged it is.

Then some yahoo, let his pack of four husky mixes immediately charge into the park, and one of them ran right up to my dog with its teeth, bared and growling. No words from that owner. My words? "Time to go." We've spent too much on this shelter dog to risk anything. Back to sniffspots.

I had a group meet up here for a fun time of food and games. This was my first time at this park…read moreand overall a good experience. Apparently, the pavilions are first come first served. A sweetheart from the group arrived at 6 am and was able to secure a nice pavilion on the lakeside, adjacent to the restrooms and across from plenty of parking. The pavilion come with a grill (we didn't use) and a large trash bin nearby. The area had a few trees around and was nicely shaded, this made the combination of good weather result in a really good experience. There is a nice trail for walking, hiking and cycling. Near the parking, there is a play area for children and a fenced dog park area. Overall, I thought I had a good experience and think that it is a fabulous area. I do hope to get back out here at some point in the future.

Lake Hiawatha Preserve Park - Frisbee Golf (Disc Golf Course)…read more Finally, a legit 18-hole disc golf course near Clermont, Florida. It's also a great place to bring your dogs! They have a nice fenced in area to let your dogs mingle and play with other dogs off the leash and there's a trail and some back country you can take them and run with. The good: - Solid mix of wooded technical holes and a few open bombers around the lake. Holes 4-8 along the water are gorgeous, especially at sunset. - Tee pads are concrete and in great shape (huge upgrade from the old rubber mats). - New Mach X baskets catch well and the bright yellow bands make them easy to spot. - Multiple pin positions on several holes keep it fresh -- they move them every few months. - Free parking, clean porta-potty near hole 1, and the course flows really well. Rarely any backups even on weekends. The "eh": - Can get soggy after rain (bring boots in spring). A couple fairways hold water like a sponge. - Hole 13's long position is a total prayer across the marsh -- fun once, frustrating the other 19 times. Highly recommend for intermediate and up. Beginners might get humbled on the back 9, but that's how we all learn! Will keep coming back. 4.5 stars rounded down only because mother nature still wins sometimes.

The springs themselves are stunning--clear, clean, and so relaxing to swim in. If you're not in the water, there are also walking trails where you can enjoy nature and get some fresh air. They offer kayaking as well, which is such a fun way to explore the area and take in the scenery. There's also a snack bar on-site, which is super convenient if you want to grab something quick without leaving. Whether you're going for a relaxing day or something a little more active, Wekiva Springs has a little bit of everything. Highly recommend checking it out!

It wasn't fully packed when we got there, but my the afternoon it started to get full. We reserved 2 canopy sitting areas right along the water. We did some paddle boarding and played volleyball. We had a great time. Some of us were a little nervous about the gators, but it didn't keep us from getting in the water. Will definitely be back in later summer.

I don't know how old it is because it doesn't have a tremendous amount of five-star ratings yet, but imagine being stranded on a tropical island somewhere. The amount of trails that just go off and out into the natural Wilderness is amazing. They even have benches out there for you to sit on and blue and red arrows to tell you which way you should go if you want to get back or go out further!! They've got a few agility items and they have a nice water facility plus poop bag dispensers and trash cans placed every here and there they even have a bathroom! And of course you park right next to the dog park

Gemini Springs Park is located in DeBary, Florida, 25 miles north of Orlando…read more Since you can no longer swim here due to high concentrations of bacteria in the waters, visitor attendance can be quite low. And since there's alternative parks situated throughout Central Florida that are swimmable, not many people will make the effort to experience Gemini Springs. In fact, I'd categorize this place as a local town park more than anything. It's free to visit and hours are sunrise to sunset. There were no names or signs for the hiking trails, so at times it felt like I was wandering aimlessly. But, the trees decorated with Spanish Moss exuded southern charm and most corners I turned felt like strolling along a nature trail. There's a dual sided passageway that acts as the centerpiece to the park and is also a dam spillway which (I believe) separates the DeBary Creek waters and the Gemini Springs area. I did spot a gator which almost caught a fish right in front of my eyes. I also noticed a soft shell turtle who appeared to be laying her eggs in the sand and some birds doing fishing of their own. Gemini Springs has picnic pavilions, a playground, a dog park, a fishing pier, plenty of grass to play around, and even camping is permitted here. Lastly, I'd like to highlight a section of the park that turns colorfully vibrant when the sun is shining... - Follow the concrete walkway (which you can't miss). - Then...you'll approach a tucked away corner of the springs. This area can be a rewarding moment for admiring the great outdoors. If you just pause and absorb the surroundings, nature's beauty shines through. It's a refreshing reminder that just because a park isn't as accessible as it once was, doesn't mean it should go unnoticed. I believe Gemini Springs Park can be a worthwhile half day visit.

Would recommend bringing some kind of shade covering for beach area but there's a covered picnic table area by the restrooms and hoses designated for the dogs to rinse off and community dog bowls for drinking in case you forget your own. Worthy to note- walking on The pier is not permitted for dogs after 10 am because apparently it gets too hot to walk on so there's alternate sand paths, you can definitely bring a wagon to help cart your stuff, an umbrella or shade to protect you from the sun might be needed since there's no natural shady areas, it's $11 to park all day with ability to go in & out throughout the day, and they have a hose to rinse down the dogs so WOULD RECOMMEND FOR A NICE DAY OUT IN NATURE, AT THE WATER WITH THE PUPS!!
