Unfortunately, my recent experience at Langlois Music Co was disappointing due to their outdated return policy. In today's market, where most reputable music retailers offer reasonable return or exchange options, their no refunds (or exchange) policy makes it difficult to justify purchasing gear here. I bought some speaker cables that turned out to not be an option for me. I hadn't even used them and they still wouldn't let me return or offer to exchange them or even store credit. Very odd. The staff was courteous, but policies matter, and this one ultimately pushes me away from advocating local in this case. I'm sharing this so other musicians are aware before making a purchase. I hope the store modernizes this policy in the future, because I'd prefer to support a local shop rather than a big box store or online retailer.

The poor employees are definitely lacking support in this establishment. I tried calling for 3 solid days with no answer at all. We thought they had gone out of business so I drove over to check and see. Once I got there, I realized why they do not answer their phone. They are swamped with customers and not enough employees. I waited patiently for 1 1/2 hours to sell my cool guitar. I think it should have been worth more because it was 20 years old, pristine condition, and left-handed, but after I waited there such a long time I figured I just wanted to get out! They have to wait on people who are paying customers before they will wait on anybody else. Makes sense...BUT...My tip would be to have a completely separate area where one person is doing all the buying. That's very logical and should happen immediately. I saw people get frustrated and leave. If you plan to go to this place, pack your patience!

This guy is really pretty amazing. He plays about every instrument you can imagine, and he has the patience of a saint. He works wonders in the way he pulls talent from a random group of young people. He has a knack for finding each kid's niche in the band and filling them with excitement for their role. Most people would be yanking their hair out. He just smiles and redirects them patiently. Each class lasts from 6-9 weeks, and culminates with a live concert from all the bands he's trained the past several weeks. They've played at Fat Cat and Gallo here in town. Such a blast for the kids! I can't recommend VMI Rocks enough. What a great resource for Modesto!
