But as I made my way around on the paths, the monuments and landmarks remind me of how lucky we all are to be in this country. There are a lot of memorials here that pay tribute to military veterans who sacrificed for us. Additionally, there's a playground and a small pond nearby that gives a nice view as you're checking out the scene. While you won't get much walking done here, the monuments here are worth the trip.

With my profession taking me to Lafayette for a couple weeks in mid-October, this park popped up on YELP where I stopped a few times during the weeks. You do have to pay for parking here but you can also park for free off of Oakleaf Drive and take the neighborhood path (bear to your left) all the way to the hill known as Orlando Mountain that leads into the park. That's the path that I took which led me to the large hill that had me thinking the whole "I'M THE KING OF THE WORLD!" like Leo from Titanic. When the weather is beautiful and it's the mid-late afternoon, you get gorgeous views of your surroundings. This includes the lovely pond, the trimmed trees, and the memorial for veterans which contains a sextet of plaques and some flags drapped high. I also give props to the citizens of this area for keeping the park clean and well-maintained. I'd come here every day if I was a resident here!

We couldn't have picked a better day to visit the area, the temperature was perfect with low humidity and no bugs - you must allow yourself plenty of time to soak in the peaceful surroundings and get out of your vehicle to get up close to the wonders of this garden. Besides the beautiful grounds and water structures there are plenty of surprises you'll discover along the way we unfortunately didn't see any alligators or deer today but there were an abundance of birds, a few turtles basking in the sun and lots of squirrels scurrying through the grounds and giant oak trees. This is a beautiful place and just one of the wonders you'll find while exploring Louisiana I've lived in Louisiana for almost half my life and I'm still amazed at the beauty this state has to offer this is just one of the many places that's preserved and protected for generations to enjoy and appreciate...

So ..... this visit was very disappointing. I get that it is a public park with public facilities…read moreand amenities but the bathroom this time was absolutely awful! I did not even want to allow my children inside. The worst part is that it seems it had been very bad for several days. I am certain. That they clean it from time to time, but obviously not often enough at all. The greens, tennis court, basketball court and playground are no different but be aware and be sure to make everyone use the restroom well before showing up here.

We were looking for…read morealligators, and despite seeing none, it was an enjoyable quarter mile walk or so on a raised platform right over a swamp. The trees growing out of the swamp mixed with the ferns provided a neat experience and different type of.l nature walk than what a tourist such as myself was used to.
