There seems to have been a lot of infrastructure improvements over recent years, there are very nice concrete RV Sites with full hookup, the entrance road into the park is a little rough requiring you to mostly travel at idle speeds. There is a large boat launch and parking lot located before you get to the park's entrance so the traffic pattern inside the park is free of boat trailers and tow vehicles. There are plenty of covered pavilions for picnicking and getting out of the sun as well as a nice concrete area at the end of the park designed for fishing and crabbing and it seemed like a lot of the visitors were here for that. There was absolutely no cellular service on most of the drive in and inside the park so plan ahead, maybe your service provider will have better results. I also recommend you fuel up before coming here I did not see any convenient stores or fueling options along the 18 mile drive once we took the exit off LA90. If you want to take pictures of them you'll need to be ready and alert because they are camera shy - as we crept along the improved roads in stealth mode (our Maverick is a hybrid and when driving slow it's very quiet in electric mode) we saw so much beautiful wildlife but was only able to snap a photo of one lone rabbit. We probably saw a dozen rabbits grazing the wet green grass, a few deer, lots of native birds and a 8 - 10 foot alligator that was crossing the road directly in front of us only to scurry into the swamp like he was being chased by a Cajun Chef looking to prepare a stew. We walked a few trails cautiously after seeing the gator, but the deer flies were active so we abandoned that idea pretty quickly, There is so much to do here and the State has done so many things for visitors to do no matter your age. Being avid RVers we also drove through the camp ground, the sites look level and are gorgeous, most if not have full hookups, it's appears most are gravel but there are a few concrete pads in the mix, of course lots of shade and most are very private. We really enjoyed the few hours we spent here, being this park is very very remote come with everything you need and take out everything you don't need and help keep this park pristine for the wildlife and others to enjoy...

(From October 2025)…read more As you all may know, parks are my escape in dealing with the grind of daily life. With my profession taking me to Lafayette for a couple weeks in mid-October, this park popped up on YELP where I stopped a few times during the weeks. You do have to pay for parking here but you can also park for free off of Oakleaf Drive and take the neighborhood path (bear to your left) all the way to the hill known as Orlando Mountain that leads into the park. That's the path that I took which led me to the large hill that had me thinking the whole "I'M THE KING OF THE WORLD!" like Leo from Titanic. When the weather is beautiful and it's the mid-late afternoon, you get gorgeous views of your surroundings. This includes the lovely pond, the trimmed trees, and the memorial for veterans which contains a sextet of plaques and some flags drapped high. I also give props to the citizens of this area for keeping the park clean and well-maintained. I'd come here every day if I was a resident here!
