Even the office setting--located in a converted old Wendy's building--reflects a lack of professionalism. I was referred by my primary care physician for a colonoscopy at a five-year interval due to my documented high risk for colon cancer, based on both a personal history of polyps and family history. This office has my medical records clearly indicating that I qualify for high-risk surveillance. Despite this, they are refusing to bill the procedure correctly. Instead of coding it as "high-risk surveillance," which my insurance has explicitly confirmed would be covered at 100%, they are insisting on labeling it as a "routine colonoscopy" and demanding $800 upfront. What is especially concerning is that they acknowledge my history of polyps, yet still refuse to use the correct billing classification. This is not a gray area--it is a clear misrepresentation of the medical necessity of the procedure. Attempts to resolve this have been met with complete dysfunction. I have been repeatedly bounced between the Billing and Scheduling departments, each refusing to take responsibility and directing me back to the other. At no point has anyone taken ownership of correcting what is clearly a billing and coding error. I have already confirmed with my insurance company that the procedure would be fully covered if billed correctly. The office's continued refusal to do so raises serious concerns about their billing practices and their commitment to ethical standards. Long story short - I did not get any answers, it felt like anything I said was not heard or understood, and she just kept suggesting different medicines. I asked about endoscopies, etc. to see if they could identify and actual issue rather than just trying new medicine (since I had been doing that), and she said I would have to wait until June or July...keep in mind I have pain after EATING, so I kept saying that will not work. Upon arrival (25 minutes late) my elderly father was refused an appointment with Dr. Soto. This upset my father greatly. It is not healthy for him to be so upset at his age. The office did not care. At no point was I informed that simply answering their questions would trigger a completely separate charge of $404, even after insurance. Charging patients hundreds of dollars without transparent consent is not healthcare, it feels like a scam. Patients are already vulnerable enough when seeking medical care and turning a routine interaction into a surprise billing opportunity is unethical and predatory. To make matters worse, my original visit was on April 15, barely over a month ago, and when I called today again asking for updates and clarification, I was told that nothing can be done and if I did not pay as soon as possible, the balance would be sent to collections. I literally just had to set up a monthly payment plan because I felt like I had no choice. That is not patient care. That is financial intimidation. I would strongly caution anyone to not go here or if they do, ask EXACTLY what will be billed before saying yes to anything, because apparently even simply answering questions during your appointment can become an expensive surprise.
