Dr. Kong seemed competent and personable, but also displayed a bit of youthful overeagerness. Although Dr Kong may be passionate about his work, it may be wise to also be a bit more empathetic to the fact that these procedures can be very costly and daunting for patients. The biggest disappointment though were the office staff! The person handling the billing seemed paticularly incompetent. Despite having been provided all insurance information, including contact info, policy info, and fee schedule, several weeks prior to the scheduled appointment, on the day of appointment this person claimed to not have been able to verify or confirm any of the insurance info and demanded the full, noninsurance cash price for treatment. Keep in mind that the insurance company is one of the major insurers in the area, not some no-name, off-brand insurance company. How is it even possible to not be able to verify insurance information when you've had up to two months to do so, or to not even bother to let the patient know there was an issue? Truly disappointing! Even more problematic were the sanitary practices used by the person operating the CT scan. Although this person wore gloves, she used a keyboard to control the scanner, and then would literally stick her fingers into my mouth to adjust the teeth positioner, and then go back to the keyboard. This was repeated several times, but I saw no evidence that the keyboard was sanitized between patients! WTF?? This is not good! In hindsight I should have immediately addressed my concern, as I now have real fears as to what bacteria or virus I may have been exposed to! At the very least a peroxide rinse should have been offered. Again, Dr. Kong seems competent, but the competency of his staff is dubious at best. Buyer beware!

Now it's under Dr. Grutter, and he is exceptional. I had a crown put in when I was living in NYC from 2012-2016, and moved back to KC last year. Dr. Grutter took off the crown, remolded a new one, and I was out of there in less than two hours. He makes the crowns on the spot. He is so easy to talk to and you can tell he genuinely cares about his patients. The girls at the front desk are super friendly, always greeting with a smile, and very professional. It is also a kid friendly office, and with a younger new dentist, it's a good place to start your kids so that they can have the same dentist for the next 30 years. Don't go anywhere else. You'll regret it like I did!

I'm qualified to say, as I had a lot of dental work done there that I'd been deferring, and have had a lot of dental work in the past by people I will no longer patronize. I first went to Dr. Bruso because I had a popped-off veneer. They worked hard to get me right in. I also had four cracked molars from being a lawyer, I mean from grinding my teeth at night, and it was getting critical, so I asked him to fix my mouth. It's been as good as the dentist can be. The office is extremely well-organized and well-run. The staff are pleasant and professional, the assistants and hygenists clearly know what they are doing. Dr. Bruso himself is straightforward and I feel that he has been very honest with me. They gave me very close estimates of cost, they quoted me high, in fact, worst case scenario which in my extensive exp with dentists is rare. The bills are clear and delineate each procedure or service. I have no dental insurance, and it wasn't cheap, but on the other hand it was less than I have been charged by much worse dentists, so I'd say that's a bargain. And when I showed up for appointments the waits were almost unbelievably minimal, in most cases no waiting at all. They are extremely concerned for my comfort. They validate parking. The parking garage is easy and there is a walkway so not much fighting the weather. I'm Dr. Bruso's patient until he hangs it up. Edit: still a huge fan. Four crowns later, two semicrown/filling things, all installed, I can chew again. I will blame Dr. Bruso if I start to gain weight ;) No pain, and very minimal discomfort during the whole ordeal. The office is in a GREAT location, between 11th/12th and Main/Walnut. The front desk staff, office manager, assistants - all top notch and professional. Dr. Bruso was very professional, thorough, and took excellent care of me. I had the option of watching a movie or using their Bose noise-cancelling headphones, so I chose the latter and caught up on podcasts. When all was said and done, I left happy, slightly swollen, but very pleased. I will definitely be returning for care here!
