Go somewhere else…read more Although the knee replacement itself was successfully performed, I cannot recommend this surgeon based on my overall experience. Before surgery, I was told that I could expect to regain my normal range of motion. In my case, my normal range was approximately 160 degrees or more. After surgery, the attitude seemed to be that 120 degrees was an acceptable result. Had that expectation been clearly explained before surgery, I would have viewed the decision very differently. More troubling was the postoperative care. His bedside manner was extremely poor. During follow-up visits, I consistently felt that he could not get out of the room fast enough. I was experiencing severe postoperative pain, yet I felt that both he and his PA were largely indifferent to it. Pain medication was prescribed in very small quantities and for short periods despite the severity and duration of my pain. My impression was that avoiding the possibility of dependence was given far greater priority than adequately controlling severe postoperative pain. I experienced what I can only describe as 10-out-of-10 pain, with the first two months being especially brutal. The entire experience left me feeling that my pain and quality of life during recovery were simply not important to this practice. For those reasons, despite the technically successful knee replacement, I cannot recommend this surgeon.

The appointment reminder on mychart or text message doesn't indicate that this office is in Pavillion 1. I came through one entrance passed a cafeteria went to a 3rd floor it was a rehab unit. Was told by a employee to make a right and follow the elevator. That led me to the NICU. Turned around followed the hallway to the left wen to the 3 rd floor of Pavilion 2. Finally got ahold of the office and pressed 1 for reston recieved an employee that worked in Alexandria. Finally got to Pavillion 1 explained my woes the receptionist said yeah we know there's no signage we talked to several ppl 2nd Impression the Dr. Has a wonderful bedside manner. This is a disservice to him and his patients.

OrthoVirginia submits the charges to the primary insurance and then bills me for what the primary does not pay while they wait for payment by the supplemental provider. The amount "due" pops up every time I log in to the portal to check in for appointments which is quite irritating. This is on top of multiple paper bills sent via USPS that have a payment due date of the day I receive them. While my supplemental insurance shows all charges paid, it takes OrthoVirginia a very long time to properly credit payments (if at all). In the interim they annoy you with check in pop ups and paper bills. I have called multiple times about this and once I finally get past the AI agent, I receive the same person who appears to be offshore. The agent can see the payments were made in full by my supplemental insurance. I am assured the issue is being escalated however continue to receive reminders about amounts due that have long been paid. As I go in once or twice a week for physical therapy this will be an ongoing issue that is quite frustrating.

A disappointing front desk experience, but I want to recognize one employee who made a difference…read more On October 9, I brought my 10-year-old son to OrthoVirginia Reston following an ER visit for a wrist injury. We normally visit Ashburn, but with no appointments available until November, I scheduled a last-minute appointment here. This was our first visit. Our appointment was at 9:30 a.m. We were already running late, which I take responsibility for. I called ahead and was told to arrive by 9:45. We reached the medical complex around 9:40 but didn't make it to the actual suite until approximately 9:47. During my call, the representative asked whether I'd been informed about the elevator situation and additional steps to access the office. I had not. Between locating the parking garage, finding the correct pavilion, and climbing flights of stairs with my injured child, I arrived frustrated and out of breath. A female receptionist kindly greeted me and offered to assist with check-in instead of having me use the kiosk. While she helped, I explained my frustration and simply asked whom I could contact about the scheduling and arrival instructions. This is where things took an unnecessary turn. A second male employee at the front desk interjected, repeatedly insisting that text messages had been sent. I clarified several times that I wasn't blaming the receptionist or front desk. I was asking who handles feedback about information communicated during scheduling. I didn't yell, curse, or personally attack anyone. I was expressing frustration about an experience, not directing it toward an employee. Instead of answering my question, he continued going back and forth with me. I even tried to disengage, explaining, "I'm having a rough morning with an injured child," but he continued. When I said I didn't appreciate his tone, he responded that he didn't appreciate how I was speaking to his coworker. After I again clarified my concern, he sarcastically stated, "Oh yeah, and I'm the manager." I requested his director, and he handed me another clinic manager's business card. The exchange continued until another employee intervened and told us both to stop going back and forth. I stopped engaging. Why did a simple request for the appropriate contact person become an argument with someone identifying himself as management? I work in customer service and understand that people arrive stressed or frustrated. But frustration isn't automatically disrespect. Sometimes professionalism means listening, acknowledging concerns, and directing someone to the right person. Especially in healthcare, where families are dealing with pain, injuries, and stress, empathy, emotional intelligence, and de-escalation should be basic expectations, particularly from leadership. My 10-year-old son, the actual patient, was seated nearby and witnessed and overheard this exchange, along with other patients. I had to regroup afterward just to refocus on getting him the care he needed. I do want to recognize Tess, who helped put my son's cast on. She was genuinely wonderful. Her smile, kindness, positive energy, and the way she interacted with both of us made us feel comfortable and welcome, without any awkwardness or judgment. She helped turn the experience around. I would gladly return for the compassionate care Tess demonstrated. I'm formally raising my concerns with OrthoVirginia leadership because this interaction warrants review and accountability. Patients and families deserve to feel supported, heard, and respected, not have a simple request for assistance turn into a confrontation.

I visited for an acute hand injury and the office verified my insurance before the appointment, but no one informed me that a PCP referral was required for coverage. After the visit, the claim was denied and I was left with a $520 bill that was eventually sent to collections, forcing me to go through months of appeals with my insurer and even the Virginia Bureau of Insurance. During that process it became clear that the claim was submitted as a specialist office visit and not coded as urgent care, even though the visit was for an acute injury. The state review indicated the provider could submit a corrected claim for reconsideration, but the billing office never corrected or resubmitted it. This entire situation could have been avoided with basic communication or proper billing follow-up. If I had been informed upfront that a referral was required, I would have simply obtained one. Patients should not have to deal with collections and regulatory appeals because of administrative oversights and lack of transparency.

Excellent Treatment by Dr. Brita Allgyer…read more I cannot recommend Dr. Brita Allgyer highly enough. Her expertise, pleasant personality, and deep knowledge made a difficult recovery possible after I injured myself in a fitness class. I found Dr. Brita through recommendations of others at my gym, and she was amazing from our first initial consultation and throughout my treatment. I was in significant pain and worried about my mobility, but Dr. Brita gave me an entire treatment plan and things to work on alone so I could positively affect my recovery. She gave me suggestions on how to strengthen other muscle groups to help prevent future injuries, as well. It is rare that a Doctor would take as much time with patients as she does (a full hour with Dr. Brita on each visit). Dr. Brita gives her patients the extra effort to ensure their future health, not just fix what is broken. Beyond her exceptional professional skills, Dr. Brita is an absolute delight to be around. Her friendly, positive, and genuinely warm demeanor made every single session enjoyable. I honestly looked forward to my appointments and often found that the hour was over too quickly because she was such a pleasure to talk to. If you're looking for a physical therapist who combines top-tier skill with a truly wonderful personality, look no further than Dr. Brita Allgyer. She's simply the best! My rating is 10 out of 10 for amazing service, knowledge, and super kind demeanor.
