I visited for a single consultation and was required to take a mandatory urine test - for which they charged me 800 dollars - the pee test was allegedly 400 dollars. Absolutely floored at the costs. Interestingly, I got one bill in the mail that set the price of the pee test at 150 dollars. Then I got a direct phone call and a very aggressive collection letter from the head of billing. The whole way this was handled gave me the deep suspicion that the head of billing is changing the prices and skimming significantly off the top from every patient. read more

After reading the reviews I felt the need to defend the people who have helped me improve my life. I'd like to say that I don't understand what people call the providers there. There are two psychiatrists there, Dr. Andrews and Dr. Pai, and the rest of the providers are mental health nurse practitioners or mental health physician assistants. If people took 2 seconds to look at the business cards at the front desk they would know this information, they would also know if they listened to their providers that tell them what their titles are. Medication Management is just that, medication management. They are not therapist. There are therapist that work under Dr. Andrews, but they are in another building in the same complex. I don't know anything about the therapy department. Giving a urine sample does not cost $800 as someone in the reviews stated. The MA cleary stated plain and simple that they are done to have a baseline reading of what was in my system and what a urine test would read after I took any medication that was prescribed to me by my provider. If I was given any type of stimulant then it is the LAW to give a urine sample every three months and with no stimulant prescribed I would leave a urine sample every year unless one is requested by the provider. I over heard a patient tell the MA that they just gave a urine sample to a different provider at a different place, the MA had that patient sign a release form so they didn't have to pay to have another one. I thought that was very kind of her. I have been going there for years, my medication is managed well and if I feel that something isn't working correctly my provider listens to me and helps me make changes. I have seen different providers there if mine is on leave or can't see me and I like them all so far. I have yet to have a bad experience. We have mental health issues and that doesn't give us a right to be mean to people. If you feel like you've been talked down to, then speak up. I always see the admin there, tell someone you would like to talk to someone instead of getting on yelp and complaining. If this is what you do, then it's your own fault. They can't fix anything if they don't know anything. I highly recommend the Psychiatric Care Center. read more

My wife went there to deal with the loss of her father. Dr. Nugent irresponsibly gave her large amounts of bezodiazapines. After her father passed she included large amounts of amphetamines. It destroyed my family and she is a completely different person. She left gambled away 6 figures of debt, and left her family. There is no due diligence in the drug prescription, she did this knowing my wife was struggling and drinking on these drugs. Now my family is broken, she is gone. If you're looking for ketamine/bravado treatment you have choices. I went to Thomas Andrews and was absolutely horrified that they wanted to "dose me "in a room with several other patients. In her well and total reset as well as mind bloom will send the ketamine to your home and you can do this in the privacy of your own home. The pricing on total reset is 10 doses for $710. Please consider that you have other treatments available. Mind bloom will do 24 for $2100. This is with someone who will stay with you for an hour and guide you through your experience. I went to the Psychiatric care center after referred by my MD for anxiety. In order to see a therapist, you are required to join their alcohol program. (Talk about a cash cow!) You will be plugged in to where ever the group facilitator is at. You may start in the middle or the end but it is geared for the student facilitator not YOU. Your accomplishments will not be acknowledged but you short coming will be pounced upon and you will be treated as a fail. The girls behind the desk are the keepers of the knowledge and are not to be challenged. If you ask a simple question they are incapable of a simple answer. You will have to make yet another appointment with your provider who will NOT be Dr.Andrews. I have been informed that patients have NO access to the mysterious Dr. Andrews. I came to the Psychiatric Care Center in crisis and in need of help. I am now in deeper crisis and in need of even more help. I am sober now in spite if the Psychiatrist Care Center NOT because of it. read more

I have tried this place out twice in the last 3 years. Staff is rude and its apparent they don't care about the patient. Your just a number to them and all they care about is the money. Anxiety, Depression, OCD, ADHD, Bipolar & PTSD. I've been with Dr. Andews for many years & find him to be kind, patient, understanding & truly helps you feel better. He is knowledgeable about Vitamins & Minerals you may benefit from, which I have found very helpful. The Staff is great - all of them! I am always at home there & they care about you, it's obvious. Wait times are too long & it's a short visit time, so be prepared for that if you have a job to return to after your appointment - you WILL be late. This is also a very religion-based office, so be prepared to have Christianity stare you right in the face, which is different than any place I have been treated at in 26 years. Redding has a high ratio of those who follow The Bible, which is sad for we Pagans, but there has never been much open-mindedness up here, so it's not surprising. You are sort of encouraged to follow the Christian path, so to speak, which doesn't offend me but could offend others. I also feel strange that there is always a very young person taking notes behind me even when I'm discussing very personal issues that are tabu in most situations - I interact a bit with the person each time because I feel that they are sort of "involved" with the appointment, but it's definitely not typical from my experience & you don't sign an agreement stating that you are willing to discuss your private matters with someone who's there just to take notes for the doctor. That is odd to me as well as even allowing patients to know what religion you follow - but the giant tablets on the wall behind Dr. Andrews says it loud & clear what faith & rules he lives by. People are proud of what they believe in, but in a clinical setting with Pagans/Atheists, it tends to make you feel a bit like you're not a good enough person because you don't live by the Bible structure. The all-Christian music station that plays in the waiting room is also sort of down-your-throat feeling as well. It's just odd compared to Psychiatrists in other areas that I have seen. But Dr. Andrews means well always; it's just that he doesn't give you encouragement or praise for what belief-system you choose to follow. I have been going to Dr. Andrews for about 3 years since Zarelli left. I was referred there to get my antidepressants. Dr. Andrews has been very nice and we generally talk about what I have been doing. He is the doctor who gave me the celiac test because of my constant lower abdominal pain for years and after 6 Gastroenterologists only did colonoscopies and never mentioned Celiac. I had all the symptoms my whole life, more than 70 years. He looked up numbers and information to give me health advice about foods and natural possibilities. He was sympathetic about the problems I had with another doctors office and communication. He has been the only doctor who really talked to me and made me feel comfortable. Me and my husband both go here for various reasons, and he came home after an appointment and complained that the front office girls made him feel stupid by the questions he was asking- and me, working in the medical field, assured him that maybe is was miscommunication. However, when I went in for my second appointment I got the same sass, and attitude from the front office ladies and the back nurses. One male in the back wouldn't help me after I did a test and directed me upfront.. so I went to the check in place upfront where I stood for five minutes while the ladies were talking and when someone finally asked me if I needed help I explained that there was an error on the computer and I wanted to make sure my test results went through and the amount of attitude I got was horrible. My experience was that the staff was overall very unfriendly. I originally felt otherwise until my last few interactions. Today the male medical assistant who took my vitals was very rude. He asked for a urine sample to which I explained to him that I wouldn't need to give one since I am not being seen to manage medication. I was already told prior to the visit while on the phone with another employee that a urine sample would not be necessary. He looked at me and then said "Yeah, sure, I believe you" and proceeded to make me feel as though I was doing something to try to be deceitful. He made me feel very upset and uncomfortable as if I did something wrong. Rebecca their PA however was fantastic, kind and caring. Our appointment was very nice and she made me feel immediately comfortable and safe while disclosing information to her. I hope the staff improves their attitudes. read more

My family spent over $13,500 out of pocket for me to have the TMS treatment that DIDN'T EVEN HELP. And it was painful. We paid them upfront for this early in 2012. Before starting treatment, the staff kept telling me how others were seeing improvements and getting relief from their depression. But when I wanted to get in touch with those who were going through TMS with me they didn't want us communicating with each other. Odd. I wish we could get our money back. Along with the others who spent a large sum of their hard earned dollars. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if a lawsuit was filed against this practice. At one point, over a year since I had seen them, they had the audacity to send me a pre-collections notice for $30. Find a better office to go to out of town. You're already having a difficult time if you need to see a psychiatrist. There is no need to add more stress to your life by seeing Dr. Andrews and his staff. read more

The doctors are great. The receptionists are terrible. They are friendly but that's about it. I have had a series of issues with this office. 1. I had a prescription for Ritalin go missing. I went to pick it up and it simply wasn't there. The next appointment I had the doctor said his files showed I picked it up. Which means after they realized it was missing, they covered it up. 2. They scheduled me for a consultation when I asked for an EEG. They gave me the paperwork to fill out, told me what to eat/not eat etc but when I came for the appointment they tried to tell me I had scheduled a regular consultation.They acted like I must have made a mistake and tried to give me the paperwork and lecture all over again. But I still had to pay for the consultation and reschedule my EEG 3. After I finally had the EEG, we made an appointment to go over the results two weeks later. I went in as scheduled and he had never received the scans and thus hadn't had the chance to interpret them. But I still had to pay for the appointment. I had to leave a week later as I was moving across the country. y number is still the same but they've yet to get back to me on my results. Even if I had stayed, I'd be done with this office, which is unfortunate because like I said, the doctors are great. If they fire their entire staff and hire new employees I might change my mind. read more

Don't Go To See This Doctor!!! I was referred to him by my primary care physician for anxiety. I had never experienced this condition before. The short of it is they lost my blood and DNA test. Never saw the same person twice. I was treated for 4 months and never actually saw the actual doctor. Office staff is horrible. Left there crying several times. They just keep giving me medication. I didn't want that. I wanted help figure why after 30 years I am having issues. Finally went back to primary care physician to tell him what was happening. He called them and they basically told him that he couldn't see my medical records until I signed a release. I signed the release and they still won't give them to him. He personally called and apologized to me for referring me to this doctor and will never refer anyone else to Andrews. read more

I have been a patient of this office for a few years and honestly if we had more Dr.s in this town this is the last place I would go. The office staff are rude and do not care about your well being which is really disheartening since this is a mental health group. Even their billing department is terrible. I called to pay my sons bill and they were questioning me because he is over 13 and said they had to check to see if he signed a consent to authorize me to get info so that I could pay the balance on his bill. This whole place is a shit show and I can understand now why there are so many mental cases in this town. I was told there is a waiting list of over 200 people to get in to see a therapist. Thank god I don't really need to see one at this point. I just don't understand what happened to good customer service and just human kindness. I am very frustrated with this office. My husband saw them once for anxiety issues-- he barely got to see the doctor, his diagnosis was made via nurses and questionnaires, and he did not feel like his questions were answered well or his concerns addressed. They did not communicate well with our insurance and we had to make a lot of phone calls to get it straightened out. Now, I am trying to get them to send some paperwork to another insurance provider, and I have had nothing but trouble getting them to follow through and send it. Plus, I just called at 1:40 and their phone system is still off for their lunch which is supposed to be from 12-1:30. Very unprofessional. read more

The treatment I received here could not be considered "medical" in any way. The doctors do not listen to you. They misdiagnosed me as bipolar and gave me pills that have permanently damaged my brain. My new doctor says I only have major depression with post-traumatic stress and anxiety. I am on a mild antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication now, and it works just fine. I never saw the same doctors consistently. They tried to charge me to send my medical records to my primary doctor at the time. When I stopped going there after I escaped my parents (the source of the trauma, who were forcing me to go there), they tried to bill me for over 2000 dollars. I'm lucky if I make 600 dollars in a month, and I have rent, phone and utilities to pay for. They sent me to collections without contacting me once. I can't possibly afford to pay these people, and the fact that they would charge that much for such awful service is mind blowing. Do not even attempt to see this doctor or any of his associates. Along with not being a good doctor, he is simply not a good person. He tries to push his religious beliefs into your treatment. He peddles sketchy vitamin supplements out of his office too. read more

I was a patient here for 12 years, used to have a great relationship with everyone in this clinic but started to struggle getting timely responses to simple requests to have info shared with my other physicians. Was told I would be given call backs that never happened which put me in a precarious position with my other drs who were waiting on information from Andrew's office on medications and treatments they had me on in order to proceed with treatment plans for the illnesses the other dr was seeing me for. This went on for months and when I tried to respectfully and politely keep on top of the situation, staff was rude, accusatory and said I was being 'difficult'. In the end, because of their lack of professionalism and efficiency, my health was severely impacted due to all the stress and eventually they let me go, via certified mail stating I had violated some vague office policy. This was October 2017. I was not referred to another physician or given any further explanation despite my many attempts to get clarification on what policy I so egregiously violated to the point of being kicked out of their clinic and given no further access to care. All medications were abruptly stopped which caused severe physical and emotional distress. Im in the process of contacting an attorney as well as the state medical board to report their dangerous practices and lack of ethics. Not all the clinicians are like this tho, just Dr. Andrews, Rob Blehm and the majority of the office staff. Staff exceptions are rare, the prescription desk staffer is a total sweetheart as well as a previous office manager who left last year. I never had any issues dealing with those two people, unfortunately interactions with the rx desk lady was rare and as I mentioned the sweet and professional office manager had left sometime in late summer 2017. It's so sad that these issues are so prevalent when all I was trying to do was manage my health. I understand psychiatry is very limited in Redding but my suggestion would be to find another clinic out of the area if possible or request to be seen by the female dr with the accent, she's very good as well as the female nurse who sees patients. Another suggestion is to always take someone with you and keep a journal of all visits and interactions. read more

I went to dr. Andrews as a teenager when his office was on Park Marina around 1997. During my sessions he would fall asleep, literally every time I saw him, he freaking dozed off while I was talking and then he'd walk out to the waiting room and tell my parents we are definitely getting somewhere with her depression. Seriously!!!!????? Then he would prescribed me antidepressants and Xanax, at age 16!!! I never told anyone because it was weird and I didn't want to get him in trouble. My parents paid him thousands and thousands of dollars and for this reason I feel really terrible for not telling them. This guy is a sorry excuse for a psychiatrist. read more

With persistence I finally got an appointment to Dr. Andrews Clinic. I found it is not the same as seeing a private psychiatrist. It is sort of 'mass produced' psychiatry with the approach that 'one size fits all.' It is tragic because there are little to no other options for psychiatric care in Redding, not unusual in a semi-rural community. Dr. Andrews has capitalized on that fact and I believe his office is abusing the practice of psychiatry in several ways: Appointments are 15 mins. No psychiatrist can assess a patient's needs in that length of time. Over the past 25 years, no psychiatrist has ever seen me for that brief amount of time. Utilizing simplistic forms where patients check off boxes, and barely even looking at the form as to their mental state cannot be a substitute for assessment or analysis. This sort of mechanical approach to psychiatry is not only inappropriate, I would suggest it is unprofessional and perhaps unethical. Also, routine expensive urine testing must be medically necessary and not applied to all patients; the cost is prohibitive at approximately $800 with insurance companies refusing to pay. I am not sure where the testing is done, however if Andrews is doing the testing and reaping the financial benefit, then overuse of this procedure is highly suspect under ethical standards. Bottom line, this 'clinic' gives the appearance of a substance abuse treatment center and not a quality psychiatric medical care practice. The tragedy for residents of this community is that there may be nowhere else to go. Nevertheless, I think the public needs to hold Andrews to a higher standard and concern the appropriate licensing authorities. read more

DO NOT GO OR TAKE ANYONE YOU KNOW HERE. I ended up in a mental hosptal after my last visit and then today after my Hospital Stay I had a follow up visit and I told the DR i was finally feeling amazing again. I couldn't have been happier and then all of the sudden he sells me on a mood stabilizer med again and that was after i advised him of my horrible experiences on them. I told him how I react violently on on them. I dont have anger issues??????????The meds were causing it the whole time. You see I suffer from ADD and I was finally diagnosed correctly by an amazing dr at Enloe Medial in Chico and therefore I have mild depression and anxiety and I told them the Zoloft was making me angry on my last visit before the ER 5150 Hold which after explaining the irritablity issues with him and my wife by my side he said to increase it to 150mg????????so I did and thats when made everything worse and long story short I ended up in the ER on a 5150......OK...Now, back to my last visit which was yesterday. Remember, I told him i was feeling amazing so he again said try this. He must have a pharmaceutical company in his pocket. He also tried to sell me on it and he Said he gives it to his 8year old son and words great but again I was feeling better than I have had in the past 15-20 yrs so I tried it last night like an idiot even though I have no rage issues because all of that was out of my system but I trusted him and within 30 minutes I turned into an Angry Crazy Maniac. Screaming at my wife and daughter really loud and scary. This is the same way I felt after my last visit and ended up on the ER on a 5150 Hold and two other visit to a mental hospital in the last 21 days. Something is not going on right there. This is not right and I'm starting to think the world is going crazy because of these drs pushing meds you dont need. All anyone really needs is a break and a little stimulation. After my add meds I feel relaxed and happy. Also, Benadryl is the only thing that works for me...I cant tell you how many times I walked right by the Benadryl in the isle to pick up xanax and the whole time Benadryl and Ritalin takes all my anxiety away. This practice has been exceptional. They are very responsive to my needs and patient and thorough. They do not rush me and truly listen and work with me to create an effective treatment plan. They do not just throw pills at you and send you on your way. I do my research before my appointments and go in with questions and concerns and they address them thoroughly. If you don't open up and talk and ask questions they can't help you so do your research and be honest about your condition and concerns. They will help. I have been a patient of this office for a year now and I can say with total sincerity that this office saved my life. Prior to being seen here, I was spiraling into a deep depression because I was experiencing extreme health problems that my medical doctors couldn't resolve. Each medication they gave me just made things worse. I even spent Thousands of $$ trying a Natural-path doctor, changed my diet, tried multiple holistic and natural supplements. Needless to say I was desperate. I was once a high functioning person who was a hot mess and no one could help me figure out why. I had spent 2 years of my life trying to figure out why I was having these health problems and why I had this intense feeling that I was failing but not knowing what I was failing at or how I was failing or who I was failing. Just that I was failing. Period. Dr. Andrews and his staff of his Psychiatric office and the Psychiatric Care Center helped me figure out what was going on with me through education, and counseling. The testing helped us determine not only which medications would be best to help me with minimal side effects, but also helped me get off almost ALL of the medication I was on when I entered their establishment. My previous medical doctors were prescribing me 2 heavy pain killers for pain, 2 anti depressants, 1 anti-anxiety medication, and to combat the fatigue these medications were causing, I was on 2 different uppers to get me through the day and then a sleeper to help me stay asleep. Like I said, one HOT MESS. I am now only on 2 medications. Medication refill response is also very fast. I am shocked that the overall rating for this establishment is only 2 stars. I think that, as with most things, you get out of it what you put into it. As for my experience, I have found the staff to be open and supportive, but most importantly, honest in their feedback to me. The self evaluation this has allowed me to do now that my head is cleared, has me in a better place both mentally and physically that I have been in years. I can't say enough praise. read more

Initially I saw a different Dr. for a few visits but now see the female Dr. who I really like. I really like both the female Drs. and am glad to have a place like this in our area. I have seen the staff ignore ringing phones while talking among themselves. Well to follow along with the other post's here, My wife saw her regular Doctor at the beginning of this last week, She was instructed to call this Doctors office for an appointment, My wife called this office and left a message with her phone number for them to call back and wow no return call, The following day my wife called their office again and left another message for them to call her back again no response, The following day we went back to my wife's regular Doctor and asked her to fax them a referral which they did with a note attached PLEASE CONTACT THIS PATIENT and again no return phone call, I am concerned that if they don't care enough to return a phone call why would they care about their patients, We will be contacting another Doctor in another town I am kinda glad my wife did not go here as they are apparently horrible. read more
