I can't think of a better name, unless that name is "groovy black-and-white painted lines that form a diamond." But I'm not in the business of naming murals, and no one consulted me to name this mural when it was created by artist Liviu Poleuca in 2017, so that's not the name of this mural. If you're walking down Main Street in Lancaster, you can't miss this bit of public art. It's located on the south side of a big wall facing an alley (a building that houses the Fairfield County Democratic Party), but viewable from the sidewalk. I had one of my children pose by this mural so I could take a photo of them in front of it, and I'm glad I did because the photo is really cool. This is a good mural to take selfies in front of.

That's where I saw the Images of Lancaster Mural, as well as a few other murals all lined up in a row on the side of a building. It turns out that this mural (and the others) are a series of public art pieces that are located on the front of the Zebco Industries headquarters. A quick internet search tells me that Zebco does packaging design. It's art upon art over here in Lancaster! This mural was was created by an 8th grade Lancaster art class in 2016. I love that so much. Lancaster seems to really be invested in its history, and this is just another way that it celebrates the people who live here and the art that they create.

The "Faces in Our Community" sculpture in downtown Lancaster is a cool little piece of public art…read morethat's located close to Ale House 1890. According to the Fairfield County website, it was created by Fairfield Union Middle School and High School students during a 2021 summer enrichment art class. I love that the town of Lancaster is showcasing contemporary art made by its young residents! The sculpture consists of masks of all colors and designs (even one that is broken in half), next to a sign that reads, "We are all unique and beautiful individually; as a community united we can make a meaningful impact." It's nice to come across public art like this, that is meant to unite and provide beauty to the community!

According to a very rudimentary internet search, this mural was created as a collaboration with Zebco Industries, Two Broke Artists, and the City of Lancaster. The mural was also created by 7th and 8th grade students in 2016. That's really cool that Lancaster showcases art from the kids who are living there. This little town really embraces art in all forms, and this is just another example of that. The Fairfield County Fair mural is just one of several pieces of public art located in this area. So if you're looking for a place in Lancaster to see some murals, come here!

This place is the cutest. It's a pottery painting studio that's also a coffee shop. So you can…read morevisit just to grab a coffee or hot chocolate or tea, or you can visit to paint some pottery, or both! I highly recommend doing both. You should know, though: This place seems to get very busy on the weekends, and they do not take reservations. So if you want to beat the crowds, your best bet is to get there right when they open. If all of the painting tables are full, you will need to wait outside until someone leaves. That could be 10 minutes, which is what it was for us. Or, like the nice man who works there pointed out, it could be 30 minutes or more, because there is no time limit once you're at the painting tables, because the creative process can't be rushed. Fair enough. Once we got a table, we walked around the store and looked at all of the pottery options. They had bowls, plates, piggy banks, coasters, planters, trinkets and ornaments (these are seasonal). My kids picked out a truck piggy bank and a kitty ornament. Pottery pieces vary in price -- the ornament cost around $12, and the piggy bank cost $35. Next we made our way to the painting station, where we loaded up our pallets with paint. They recommend using three coats of paint for the brightest finish, but my kids, who are impatient like all children, only did one coat of paint and their pieces came out really well. After you're done painting, you leave your pieces on the table, pay for them at the register, and then Art & Clay on Main fires them and glosses them, and you pick them up about a week later. It is so cool to finally get your finished pieces. Ours really looked professionally done! While we were painting, we ordered some hot chocolate with whipped cream, and drank and painted at a leisurely pace. It was a nice and relaxing family activity, and my kids were really into it. I highly recommend dropping by Art & Clay on Main if you're in downtown Lancaster if you're looking for a fun and relaxing activity with your kids.

But he was mostly known for his comic drawings, and is known as the father of the comic strip. He was also a resident of Lancaster, Ohio! The town created a mural of Outcault, which faces Wheeling Street but is technically located on Broad Street. It faces the south side of the building, on an overhang. According to a website that knows much more about Outcault than I do: In 2022, the Society of Professional Journalists and E.W. Scripps School of Journalism recognized Lancaster, Ohio, as an Ohio Historic Site in Journalism for being the birthplace of Richard Outcault. That's really neat!

When General William Tecumseh Sherman was fighting in the Civil War for the Union, did he imagine…read morethat his hometown of Lancaster, Ohio, would one day erect a stature of him? Who the heck knows. But maybe homie had an inkling, because apparently dude was a four-star general, which the internet is telling me is the highest rank in the military, so I'm sure his hometown was very proud of him. You go, General Sherman! The statue of Sherman and a historical marker are located in a little plaza at the corner of Main Street and Broad Street. The plaza is nice and has some benches and things to sit on. You can read all about Sherman, and then sit and reflect on how much he accomplished during his life, and his dedication to preserving the Union.

This is a newer location; they transferred to this stand-along office building a few years ago, and the gentleman helping me said it's easier access compared with their address by River Valley Mall. You walk in, fill out your info and reason for visit on the touchscreen kiosk, and it spits out a receipt with your number to be called. I was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes! Plenty of free parking, so my stop in was efficient.
