I do like this place they are very friendly and during the summer there's a lot of good pottery painting choices, my only gripe is they close random days and it doesn't say that on the map, so imagine driving 25 minutes to pick up your piece and their closed. This place is the cutest. It's a pottery painting studio that's also a coffee shop. So you can visit just to grab a coffee or hot chocolate or tea, or you can visit to paint some pottery, or both! I highly recommend doing both. You should know, though: This place seems to get very busy on the weekends, and they do not take reservations. So if you want to beat the crowds, your best bet is to get there right when they open. If all of the painting tables are full, you will need to wait outside until someone leaves. That could be 10 minutes, which is what it was for us. Or, like the nice man who works there pointed out, it could be 30 minutes or more, because there is no time limit once you're at the painting tables, because the creative process can't be rushed. Fair enough. Once we got a table, we walked around the store and looked at all of the pottery options. They had bowls, plates, piggy banks, coasters, planters, trinkets and ornaments (these are seasonal). My kids picked out a truck piggy bank and a kitty ornament. Pottery pieces vary in price -- the ornament cost around $12, and the piggy bank cost $35. Next we made our way to the painting station, where we loaded up our pallets with paint. They recommend using three coats of paint for the brightest finish, but my kids, who are impatient like all children, only did one coat of paint and their pieces came out really well. After you're done painting, you leave your pieces on the table, pay for them at the register, and then Art & Clay on Main fires them and glosses them, and you pick them up about a week later. It is so cool to finally get your finished pieces. Ours really looked professionally done! While we were painting, we ordered some hot chocolate with whipped cream, and drank and painted at a leisurely pace. It was a nice and relaxing family activity, and my kids were really into it. While we were there a lady Mitsi Niceswangetnow ( I know now she was the manger) over heard us talking about Wesson having such a great time on his birthday. First time painting... we usually come in for the coffee to avoid the corporate coffee by the mall and retailpalooza. The service is great, and there are plenty of pottery pleasers to choose from. Plan on spending some time unless you are picking something small, ESPECIALLY if you have a detail diva or artist in your group. So easy with lots of creative and festive ideas to get you started and keep you going. Clean up and check out is wicked easy, too. We have seen this place go from having just a few tables to having a waitlist to get in. A full espresso and coffee bar is inside to order drinks, baked goods and chocolates. On the other side of the space are displayed ceramics to choose from to paint. All the prices are on the bottom of the ceramic and come in a wide range of prices. With so many colors to choose from, stencils, lace overlay, sponges, stamps and brushes the possibilities to create are endless! I love the beverage and snack bar as well! Mostly I love that they are supporters of the DD community in promoting independence and opportunities. I wish I cloud give this place a zero star I was waiting on my party to arrive to have fun and paint like always, as I entered the building I had to use the restroom I'm autistic and I was dressed nice not loitering my family has always loved this place its so sad cause one apple can spoil the whole bunch as I arrived early and entered the building a young woman employee with blonde hair looked at me rudely as I asked where the bathroom was I'm autistic and I couldn't remember where the bathroom was, she said it's for customers only. It's so sad that this employee was quick to judge. I used to love this place now I will never be back very sad. read more

Lovely space! Bright, cheery atmosphere that makes you want to create!! There's several different rooms as you wonder toward the back. Spaces perfect for painting on canvas. Places to sand and paint your pottery. I was told by Kelly (owner/manager and very pleasant gal!) that if you don't get done painting your pottery project, and need to come back and finish, no problem! Just pay for the finished piece that day, and your welcome to come back and work on it as many times (no matter how long it takes) as needed. A welcoming establishment! Personal fav? There's paintings hanging all around. I'm presuming they've been done here. Many are for sale, and at reasonable prices. Special mention to the artist of the whimsical ocean creatures paintings hanging outside the potting-wheel space! And the bright, elaborate doors? I want those at my house! Classes are offered to the public. And at a very reasonable price. I'd love to get on a wheel and try my hands at a bowl or vase - it's been a long time since high school art class, haha! read more

I have to say I've been coming here for years, and I've always loved it. Unfortunately the last few times the staff hasn't been friendly. Very short and hostile, I asked about the small tubes of paint for writing with as I wanted to write my sons name the girl had a horrific attitude and was very short and frustrated. This is where I decided to have a small group of friends for my birthday (5 people and myself). Definitely not the highlight of my day. I know we're all stressed out due to covid and other issues, but don't take it out on your guests. I've loved this place for years. Not only do I come here with friends and family I also have been referring people that come to my hotel, at one point a few years ago you even sent a little goodie bag for me and left it at my work. Sadly I won't be returning nor will I be referring guests, I don't want others to be treated that way. It really does break my heart because I love supporting small businesses and you guys definitely have the best coffee. I don't know if it's new management or owners but I hope you get the matter resolved, I'll miss coming in to make new holiday/seasonal decorations. read more

I have visited this establishment many times in the past during community events like art walk and chocolate walk, attended a painting class for a bachelorette party, and painted three items on three different occasions all while accompanied by my service dog. I have never had an issue bringing him in to this business until Chocolate Walk this past Friday. I would also like to add that I went into 30 other businesses that evening and no one else gave me any grief for having him. I am a type 1 diabetic. My dog is trained to alert me when my sugars go high or low. He was vested and well behaved when we went in. We were looking around while we were waiting to get the chocolate when I was approached by a staff member. She said "I have two questions to ask you and I'm sure you know how to answer them." This was said in a way that made me realize she had already decided my dog was not a legitimate service dog. She then proceeded to ask me the two questions that businesses are allowed to ask: is he a service dog and what service does he provide? I responded that yes, he was a service dog and he was a medical alert dog. She then asked "But what does he do?" I responded again that he was a medical alert dog. When she asked me again what he did I told her he alerted me when my sugars go too high or too low. She asked me again what he did. At that point I realized that she was trying to ask me what my disability was and I told her that she's not allowed to ask me that. She told me she was allowed to and offered to get the "paperwork". I'm not sure if she meant the actual ADA regulations or the company policy, she just said "paperwork". At that point I told my companions that I would wait for them outside as I didn't want to make a scene in front of people who were painting pottery with their families. She yelled after me several times as I was leaving that she "didn't ask me that question". I was very surprised by this treatment was I was always under the impression that Art and Clay advocated for people with disabilities. My sister-in-law and I were having a conversation about bringing our nieces and nephews in to paint sometime, but if this is the way I will be treated, I don't think we will. I hope Art and Clay takes the time to train their employees in the proper treatment of people with service dogs, and to not make snap judgements about people because their disability is not visible. This experience was disappointing, embarrassing, and stressful. read more

Great find in Lancaster! A cute cafe, pottery painting, gift shop and art gallery...what's not to love?! I took my 6 year old to a pottery painting and she had a blast. There is a great variety of ceramics to choose from and the staff was very helpful. The prices are incredibly reasonable to paint, eat, drink and buy. As if this place wasn't cool enough on its own, it also supports Blue Shoe Arts, nonprofit organization that supports developmentally disabled adults in Franklin County. They hold art shows for the Blue Shoe Artists and have art for sale any day of the week. We found some great pieces that I will cherish forever. I can't wait to go back and pick up my pottery and a few other gifts!!! read more
