A Very Die Hard Christmas -- Seattle Public Theater…read more For 33 straight years, my sister (WCP) and I have watched Die Hard and Die Hard 2 every December. A few years ago, a friend introduced me to this parody play -- and now it's officially part of my holiday tradition. I come back year-over-year because each production is different, clever, and full of new surprises. This year's version was one of the best yet: Upgraded set pieces, including a tall wall with TWO vents and working doors Smartly updated jokes and swapped-out 80s references Fresh additions to the villain list (shoutout to Huey Lewis & The News and Vidal Sassoon) And a perfect recreation of the iconic vent scene where McClane mutters: "Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs..." followed by "Now I know what a TV dinner feels like." This was my 3rd time, my friend Mary R's "don't ask how many," and my sister's very first time. The show was hilarious and high-energy -- but honestly, the best part was watching WCP react to it for the first time. Pure holiday magic. Seattle Public Theater nails the humor, nostalgia, and chaotic joy of Die Hard while giving audiences something new every December. If you love the movie, love parody, or just want a holiday show that's totally different from the usual lineup, go see this. Highly recommended. Yippee-Ki-Yay, Seattle.

An Afternoon That Really Took Flight…read more Spent the afternoon at Seattle Public Theater for their production of Aviatrix, based on the life of Bessie Coleman. Set against the realities of 1917, the story follows Bessie Coleman's determination to become a pilot. As an African American and Native woman facing closed doors in the United States, she traveled to France to learn to fly and fulfill her dream of becoming a licensed pilot. What an incredible production. The performances and vocals were outstanding, and the music completely pulled me in. I wish they would release a soundtrack. I was not expecting the bonus of staying afterward for the post show talkback with the cast, artistic director, playwright, and composer. Flying high from this one. Bessie Coleman's story is inspiring, uplifting, and a reminder that sometimes you have to leave the ground everyone expects you to stay on.

The staff, excluding the bartenders who receive gratuities, volunteer their time. +1 - Charity. There are numerous opportunities to support the community through fund drives. The +1 - Hours. Because volunteers staff this location, like most locations, the hours are perfect for those seeking an after-work cocktail or beer. Background. Depending on the bartender, your first or next visit might be a mixed bag of customer service expectations. Specifically. If the bar is pretty much empty, and the bartender sees this, they might take a smoke break or use the bathroom. This doesn't apply to everyone, but remember it if you're ever alone. Again, unpaid staff support this establishment. Regarding the food options, you are allowed to bring in your own food, provided it's not during a theme night. Examples included Baked Potato Night, Initiation Night, Taco Tuesday, a hosted Seahawks watch party, or any random theme night that features a menu item. Drink values are pretty equitable, as they are based on having a volunteer staff. They aren't dirt cheap, but you won't be paying for a pint or shot like you should if you were downtown or in one of the more populated neighborhoods (see Capitol Hill, Ballard, Greenwood, etc.). Entertainment. Depending on the evening, you might be invited to participate in Trivia Night, watch the latest movie, play some poker, or support the club via Bingo night. Overall, your expectations should be more like visiting family and less like visiting a 4 or 5 star restaurant. Finally, whenever possible, be sure to tip the kitchen staff directly, as they don't receive any cash compensation. If you are looking for a place with good prices and no drama then join and whatever city or town you come to you have a relaxing place to be. Some locations have great bands on the weekend and dancing (we like to visit those and just watch the older group dance). Some have food all the time others don't but you just have to check and see. I will never not be a member. It's just too good of deal.

I have taken singing lessons with Andy for many years, and it has brought me a lot of joy,…read morelearning, and growth both musical and personal. The combination of Andy's ability to help you grow in the technical and psychological aspects of improving your singing and his artful and skillful piano accompaniment (transposing on the fly into whatever key works best for you!), adds up to a great experience. I often push myself to go to a lesson, feeling tired after a long day at work, and leave feeling so much better physically and mentally. We laugh a lot while we work! I appreciate that Andy works with you to achieve your goals, and he will push you to stretch to make progress, but he's fundmentally there to hlep you get what you want from your lessons--the kind of music you want to sing, whether you want to perform, when you want to push yourself on technique and when you want to just relax and sing. And he realizes all that may change week to week and evolve over time. Perhaps the strongest proof of the trust I have in Andy and the growth I've experienced working with him over the years is that improvising is an incredbly vulnerable thing for me to do--mistakes, wrong notes, falling off the edge of the tune, eek! And I regularly improvise now at my lessons and it brings me a special kind of happiness to able to experiment, play, create beauty, and express myself. I'm grateful to be able to learn from and make music with Andy.

He has an incredible perception to how you are using your muscles , tongue, stomach etc by listening and watching and can diagnose what you're doing and how to improve. I have definitely noticed improvement over the years and have received positive feedback from others.
