You can sip on Harney and Sons tea (if you know you know) or grab a Starbucks coffee. They also have mini pies, tarts and more. It's so cute because it's all served on a cafeteria tray. We got a book and to the cafe to read and eat our goodies.

I don't live very close to Barbara's Bookstore, so I do a lot of my browsing online. When, in the past, I would have ordered a book on Amazon, I now mostly order from Barbara's. If the book isn't on their shelves, they order it for me and let me know when it's ready. They can also just ship it directly to me, but since my wife works nearby, she can usually pick it up and I don't pay shipping. It's worth the wait for me to support a local business. The customer service is top notch. Once I place an order, Cory replies very quickly and keeps me updated. Employees in store are nice too. Finally, anyone can join their free club, "Barb Wire", and get 10% off. As a teacher, I get 15% off. This is great because Barnes and Noble discontinued their teacher discount and usually charge for their membership. Finally, when I do have a book shipped by Barbara's, they are packaged well so there's no damage to the book. Even if I liked Amazon, they stopped packaging books well years ago. Now they throw it in a loose box or bag and it often arrives damaged. I've returned many damaged books to Amazon due to careless packaging.

The people and especially one of the guys in the buyback section was somewhat rude to me and told me to leave the area while they looked at my boxes and books. I told him that I wanted to go through one of the boxes before I let them digest the donation. I was concerned about something accidentally being in the box. He was still rude and told me to go away. Eventually when they called me back to the counter, they only showed me a few of the items that I had brought and offered me a pittance or penny on the pound. They also broke up the Book collections and the VHS TV series collection and said they only needed three of the videotapes and none of the duplicates. I immediately knew that they didn't even check that there were no duplicates and it was a complete TV series. I also asked what happened to the other stuff that I said I wanted to check before they did something to it and they said that they were going to donate it or give it to another store. They didn't offer me any cash value for the items that they wanted to donate or trade to another store. After a bit of time, another manager was called out and said it was OK for me to see and check my donation. But they wouldn't let me go behind the counter and claimed that I had to do everything over the counter. They had placed everything behind the counter. The Schaumburg store was a lot more friendlier and more engaging and understanding. There's something really off about this store location and it made me highly uncomfortable.

When you walk in, it looks small but it carries tons of incredible titles. To the left you find all the shelves with trinkets, and fun gifts along with toys and children's/young adult books. Our little guy loved looking and exploring the toys. On the main side of the store you'll find best sellers, bookseller recommendations, even a section for Chicago Themed goodies. I love support indie bookstores whenever I can, the staff were so friendly and the shelves were super organized. They even had hand written notes of book recommendations which actually helped me pick out the book I purchased. I have been interested in the original 4-part Wolverine series for a while, and since the shop had all 4 issues, I asked whether they were newsstand or direct issues. The employee took them out of the case and assured me they were all newsstand, but when I got home and conducted a bit more research, I found that they were ALL direct issues. Whether it was due to incompetence or ignorance, I won't be placing anymore trust in this shop, which is unfortunate because I had a high level of interest in a lot of their glass-case collectible issues. Yes, this is partly my own fault for making the purchase without conducting further research first, but to be taken for a ride like this by an employee who is there to assist customers is enough reason to stay away in the future.

When you walk in you can immediately feel the charm and there being a bookstore pup, what more is there to ask for! Do not purchase auctions or collections from this seller…read more Seller fraudulently indicated that a collection a new employee of my shop purchased would contain items that were not included in the collection. They also fraudulently represented that the collection contained "Lots of good stuff, very little junk!!" but in reality, the collection was mostly junk/bulk. When I attempted to return the collection, the seller responded by attempting to intimidate me out of returning the collection, leaving negative and false reviews, and even called my shop in an attempt to intimidate me and/or my employees out of returning this garbage collection.
