I'm kind of used to these night spots being very selective as to who they let it, namely because…read morethey have a specific look they want to achieve, or they did back when I was young, so I was somewhat surprised that they were more than happy to let us in, even if it was to grab something to eat. Well, it's a bar, so I was going to grab a beer as well, though it was somewhat disappointing that the selection was limited at best. Still, for a pub it was pretty good.

This place is legit. Chill ambiance inside. A few big square tables for large groups and a handful…read moreof smaller tables as well. Lighting is dark but not too dark, sets the mood in the right way. Visited on a Thursday night so it wasn't very busy. You order from the bar and they bring your food out. I ordered a lamb lollipop and the pumpkin soup. You only get one lolli but it had me wanting a dozen more. I'm not a big lamb eater but this was succulent, tender, and well marinated with a sweet and tangy glaze. I also don't order soup much but I found the pumpkin soup quite nice. I wasn't a fan of the seeds on top, but I guess it fits with the birdhouse theme. It was a nice consistency, not too runny or too thick. Plenty of flavor and served hot. Came with a piece of fresh sourdough as well. I also tried my girlfriend's chicken wings and those were on point too. Tender and juicy with a glaze that was a good balance of salty and tangy. (Didn't order drinks) So if you're headed out to eat in Wagga, this place's food quality is up there. Only thing I didn't enjoy was the seating - hard to maneuver in and out of the booths and the tables are practically at your knees so you have to hunch over to eat. Other than that, I'm a fan.

A bit of a hidden gem in Wagga Wagga. A standard unassuming hotel on the outside, but with a legit…read morekitchen firing up tasty pizzas within. We ordered take away for lunch and shared the pulled pork BBQ pizza and the chicken satay pizza. Neither are that novel in concept, but the execution was spot on. Loved the base/crust - chewy, doughy, and just the right amount of crispness. The BBQ sauce on the pulled pork was fantastic, tangy sweet with a nice bite. The caramelized apple and bacon counterbalanced each other well. The balsamic glaze was also a nice touch on top. Generous, tender pork = nicely done boys. As for the chicken satay pizza, this one was a distant runner up, but still solid. Chicken was juicy and tender, and while I enjoyed the peanut-y satay base, it kind of soaked up the capsicum, onions, and cashews to the point where there weren't many distinct flavors left. Would still order again if they were out of the pork pizza, but with tempered expectations. Since the bistro is in a hotel, prices are a bit steep for the portions. Two pizzas fed two people, but with only a couple slices remaining for leftovers. But the quality of ingredients and proper prep justifies the prices. Take away was quick and hassle free. Dining in will certainly be an option in the future, but with avid pokies in the next room, might choose to avoid dining in amongst rabid fans. Nevertheless, will be back for more.

This was actually the first pub that I visited in Wagga, and came here pretty quickly after lunch…read morebecause, well, the main reason that I came here was to check out their pubs, and because I hadn't been here before. Yeah, so, this was an okay pub, and did have the country vibe that tends to make pubs a little better out in the bush. Okay, the beers were limited, but they had a couple of decent ones, so yeah, that was okay.
