Each of them seem to have a handwritten note attached explaining about the wine. It's strangely beautiful in there... A bit like looking at an amazing range of books in a library. Owner was very helpful in suggesting local crafts based upon our preferences. Beers were reasonably priced, but I could definitely see myself spending way too much time and money at Bacchanalia. Though I spent the majority of my time going through the craft beer, there is also a decent selection of wine.

It doesn't look like a particularly big area of a particularly big shop but nevertheless it's absolutely loaded with interesting stuff. There are local Cambridge ales (not that I'd rave about Cambridge's beer particularly but local beer is always good) and a great range of imported beers, especially Belgian. If you've got a sweet tooth then the lambics and other fruit beers are really very interesting. You could probably find some of it cheaper by the crate online but for individual bottles to taste it's decently priced. The staff are all very friendly- they clearly know a lot about wine and enough about beer and are happy to talk about it.

The service is friendly and the prices reasonable. Great to have something like this maintain such a local authentic feelling.

Just up the road from CWM's Mill Road branch, there is not a huge difference between these two places unless you are looking for beer. So, I ordered the cider. When the waiter brought it over, I noticed something on the inside of the glass, but when I looked up to tell him about it, he had already gone. I waited for him to come back, which took five minutes and I did not receive an apology, which I was not hung up about but it is still good customer service to do so. Once he returned and I tried the cider, I found it quite sour and not to my taste. The wines had descriptions so I felt one for the ciders and ales would have done very well. As for food, their offerings were mainly cheese and charcuterie dishes. I was looking for something more substantial, but it would have been rude not to order anything so I ordered the bread board, which is merely bread and olive oil. It was perfectly fine. The service was not anything to be impressed by. The waiter was not friendly at all. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very touristy, at least to me. Perhaps this is due to its location on the river, where students and companies are trying to get the tourists to go on a punting tours. Overall, unsatisfactory. Will not be going back.
