There are a handful of studios in Melbourne that slot into the upper echelon of work, apparently Third Eye is in the ball park of Tattoo Magic and Chapel Tattoo. They encourage walk ins at Third Eye and this, these days, is a rarity. Their rates are highish and they do charge for drawing of custom work, but just go in and check out the quality and you'll see why it's a bit pricey. They have great gender balance here so there's none of that macho attitude you'll get at the biker shops. Plus, girls tend to have a bit of a lighter touch with the needle, so it doesn't hurt so bad. What a fantastic experience i had with Third eye from my initial phone call to the actual tattoo. I was put in with a fellow by the name of Bugsy, he was super easy going very happy about doing my idea which was a love heart with a dagger through it,he designed it on the day of the tattoo and i was so happy with it. the shop itself is super cool with such a good energy and the receptionist was super friendly and greeted myself and my friend with a big smile and welcome. My experience with Third Eye has been very disappointing. I walked in there expecting to be matched with the artist best suited to do the tattoo I wanted but instead I was thrown to the first available person, a guy named Bugsy, who completely fucked up my tattoo. Not only did he fail to follow specific instructions about colours and the thickness of the lines but his work looks sloppy, with no symmetry and in addition bits of the tattoo have fallen off after healing. When I went back to discuss my dissatisfaction with the tattoo neither the management or the supposed artist took any responsibility and dismissed my concerns with a simple "the work is more than satisfactory, it couldn't be done any better". When I asked to see the owner of Third Eye they refused to organise a meeting. I have sought a second opinion about the tattoo and was told that not only it is very poorly executed and cannot be fixed unless removed but it is also very badly scarred. Needless to say I am completely devastated and feel absolutely terrible for trusting the people at Third Eye to tattoo me. read more
