Elena is an amazing instructor. She keeps the content engaging, easy to follow/understand, and fun. The setup of the class is conversation based, so you're constantly speaking with your classmates and putting the learnings into practice. I would recommend Elena's classes to anyone in Chicago looking to learn a new language. I never felt like I'd be able to learn a new language as an adult - but Elena makes it exciting and enjoyable. I practiced on Duolingo a bit but noticed that my speaking and listening weren't improving very much on a trip abroad. I signed up for classes at LALC and instantly started progressing in my Spanish. The classes are 100% speaking and listening so you get an immersive experience for 2 hours a week. They also tell you how to best practice during the week so you can continue to learn after class. LALC combined with Duolingo helped me greatly improve my vocab, listen, and feel confident speaking. Highly highly highly recommend.

Melissa was an engaging instructor. Class would be reviewing the week's homework and past lessons, learning the new work and drilling the lessons. There is a lot of memorization involved as there is in any new language learning. While I attended with a Groupon, I found their regular class prices being more then reasonable and plenty of class times and able to make up a missed class. Also they email a couple times a week to remind you of the homework, the next class time and if you need to go at another time and also tips to reinstate the Spanish you've learned so far. I can see her Spanish went from 0 to an independent Spanish reader and writer. Under this program, she also became an independent girl and a child who loves to help her classmates. During the COVID-19, the school took great precautions and made sure the students have social distancing with each other. My maestra, Gladys, is so nice and very informative. Even when I found some things to be too easy, she moved me right along to the next course materials (yes!) The materials need to be spell-checked and there were a few things in the exercises (tarea) that made me wonder "Why is that even in here?" I found it could be more challenging (no!) What they offer here is not what they will teach you at a university; having taken college-level Spanish (years ago; I didn't want to pay the hefty fee), I found this to be much less comprehensive - less homework, less reading, and less writing (no!). But, no one is forcing you to take exams/do the homework and so you learn at your own discretion (yes!). So with all this said, know what you want to get out of this; it's sort of what you make of it. Their services are more so for the person who wants to speak, rather than read and write. It's useful if you want to learn very quickly and have other Spanish-speakers around you to practice with (please let me emphasize that - I wouldn't have been as sharp without my bilingual friends!).

He was friendly, and patient, and incredibly helpful! He answered all my questions and was instrumental in providing information that will allow me to fully plan my travel. The bad... we requested and paid for upgraded hotels as we required a bit more space for medical reasons. Spoke with them several times to confirm, yet the first hotel had no record. As the room was too small, I paid out of pocket for the larger room as the assigned room was too small to navigate. The tour manager attempted to contact the main booking office several times and they did not reply. They have yet to reply to our requests either. They need to do a better job communicating as they provided us with train tickets to get to and from the start and end points of the tour, but very little information as to how to actually get there. They booked us and I paid for a post hotel stay near our departure airport . This hotel was supposed to have a shuttle to and from the airport/train station. When starting to arrange when we arrived at our departure airport, I contacted the hotel to arrange for the transfer to the hotel. They told me that the shuttle was not available for the next 4.5 hours and wished me luck to arrive there. The rest of this hotel issue is a separate issue, but as vacations by rail booked this for us, they have yet to respond to multiple requests to address the situation. Food provided by the tours at the hotel were mediocre at best. The saving grace was the onsite tour manager who went out of her way to assure a nice trip. Will not book with them again
