Just be careful in the parking lot, it's small and no one really seems to pay close attention to their surroundings-I've had a few near misses. Also be aware that on the weekends there's typically one or two homeless people out front. They've never been a problem but if you're uncomfortable about that sort of thing consider this your warning. The main branch is where I typically go. I usually request a few books to pick up and then browse while I'm there. I've never had a problem checking out or waiting in line etc. The staff is friendly enough, not very outgoing in my experience, but friendly and knowledgeable whenever I've interacted with the staff.

No unemployed dirty panhandlers like at the downtown branch, and no mothers with 4 kids screaming while they are on the computer. Maybe a tad smaller then some of the other branches, but the decor is like I am in someones private book collection. Very user friendly. And is is in such a private, almost secret location, over in the corner by the gas pumps by the Meijers store on Cleveland. Be nice to yourself. Read a book everyday. Help America be smart!

As someone who does not like parting with my money, I often struggle to find things to do…read more Fortunately, Centre Township Library on the corner of Kern and Miami offers a vast selection of books as well as a variety of events. The library is efficiently laid out, separated into clear areas for adults, teens, and children. There are also many alcoves with comfy seats to sample your choices. I spent thirty minutes in one reading the new Percy Jackson book before checking it out. If you ever have trouble finding a book to read, the friendly librarians are happy to help. One looked at my book list and added three new recommendations, such as Stephen King's new novel. The Outsider was a riveting story. Another saw me checking out Death Note, and suggested a variety of other graphic novels. In turn, this led me to becoming interested in graphic novels, comics, and storytelling through drawing. Every time I enter, I beeline straight toward the graphic novel shelf to find something new to read. Centre Township branch also houses events for the community. Children come every week for story time. Once a month, a euchre tournament is held. Every year, the library hosts a party in honor of Harry Potter's birthday. People from all over the city come to celebrate. And these are just a few of the multitude of events offered. The librarians even dress up as characters! Centre Township Library is a wonderful place to lose yourself in.

No, I don't have a problem with Jesus, but while The Word of Life (the mural's actual title) is interesting, there are no women depicted in it. Kind of strange considering the facts that more than half the people in the world are women, many of the most important figures in the Bible are women, human life isn't possible without women, and Notre Dame's name translates into the University of Our Lady of the Lake. The library itself is magnificent. I don't really like its blockishness, but then I don't like most of the architecture on Notre Dame's campus. But the collection of books is impressive, and it's really easy to find what you're looking for. I also love the fact that anyone can just walk into the library and use it. This isn't the case at most university libraries these days, even public ones, and that's a shame. When I was a grad student at Notre Dame, I loved the fact that I could check out an almost unlimited number of books indefinitely. (There might have literally been no time limit.) I always thought this was strange, as it seemed to be an easy way to steal books. When I asked a friend who worked at the library, she said that the stacks literally weren't large enough to hold all the books, so the university would rather that a large number were checked out at any one time. I know I had some books in my house for almost the entire time I was a student. There are also some really greats views from the top floors of the library. I used to love the basement, but when they renovated it, they took away all its old character. I realize that some people like shiny marble inlaid with university seals, but I'm a less flashy guy, and I loved how the old basement felt like a 1950s-era British train station, complete with banks of phone booths and vending machines that had old sandwiches. The library's grounds are also home to dozens of really cute chipmunks (one of which once made me brake hard and fly into a hedge to avoid running it over on my bike); the First Down Moses statue (complete with horns!); and a reflecting pool, which I really used to like until I found out they use blue food coloring to make the water look deep. (It's actually only a few inches, so don't ever try to dive into it.) The ducks that swim in the pool all look like they've just eaten a Slurpee; their tongues are stained blue from the food coloring. They drain the reflecting pool during the winter, and it can be a little bit dangerous when it's surrounded by snow and you don't realize the lip is there. But I really do love the Hesburgh Library, and especially in the winter, it was nice not to have to walk far from Malloy Hall to here to grab some books before crunch-crunching home through the snow.

This library is clean and spacious. There is a giant windmill and a glass elevator. There is also a small tribute to Japan that is great for photos. The mixed media (movie/music) section is like stepping back in time to a video rental store and has some neat framed movie posters.

The staff is always courteous and polite, and patient. I am lucky to live within 2 miles of here. That is one thing South bend does do right,its' libraries.

I love this library so much I remember loving a series they didn't have all the books for. I contacted the author with the missing books and got about 6 books sent for free to me to donate to the library. The YA series Replica? That's mostly complete because of the author. That's the great thing about loving your local library: you can choose to make it better. I did reading events here as a teen (including being able to spend the night), listened to story time as a child and recieve my first library card here on a school field trip in elementary school. I will always have fond memories of this library. Thank you to librarians everywhere that encourage kids to follow their love for books and never stop reading.

The Children's Librarian was super helpful and even printed out some useful information for us. Our kids loved pretending to be on a boat & they also liked the free craft!
