Please let me preference this review with letting you know that I'm a third generation nurse. Hence, I have a significant working knowledge of things to look for and ask of my surgeon. Dr. Papel came highly recommended by another cosmetic surgeon that I know. Since I was having surgery on my face (nose & eyes), my doctor friend wanted to make sure I went to a skilled surgeon who specialized in facial cosmetic surgery. You can read all about Dr. Papel's accolades and deduce that he's remarkably skilled. But, to have a trusted doctor, in this field, recommend him; it made my decision easier. Dr. Papel and his entire staff are amazing! Dr. Papel is foremost a very humble, kind, and caring man. As a nurse used to working with doctors, I suppose I expected a bit of an "aristocratic aire" from him. I could NOT have been more wrong. His bedside manner is exemplary! The time he spent with me was generous and NEVER rushed. He is approachable; never judgmental. I felt as if I was his only patient. The entire staff treats you as he does. From his office/ patient care manager, Kristi, to his nurses, Melanie and Karen (Just to name 2), to his anesthesiologist, Dr. Chen, to the beautiful ladies at the front desk; you are in skilled and caring hands. The office itself is spacious and beautifully appointed. The facility has literally everything you could possibly need, or, want. I can tell you that as a nurse I am blown away by this group of clinicians and staff. As a patient, I felt, and, continue to feel post-operatively as if I'm their only patient and very "attended" to. I in nooo way have a high tolerance for pain. However, I can say that I have had minimal pain. In fact, I only had to take 2 pain pills. My bruising and swelling are minimal. And, the results, even in this early stage of healing, are remarkable. They truly are life changing! For the functional part of my surgery, I can breathe like never before. I even sleep better! I got my surgery about a year ago and I am extremely happy with the results!! Due to allergic rhinitis and a deviated nasal septum, I had immense trouble breathing, especially during sleep. So, I decided to get a septoplasty, along with turbinectomy. I decided that I would also get a dorsal hump reduction during the same procedure. My PCP had initially directed me to an ENT who refused to perform the rhinoplasty and only completed the septoplasty/turbinectomy which did not yield much improvement on my breathing. (He claimed that he does NOT perform cosmetic surgeries. I would have appreciated it if he had directed me to Dr Kontis straightaway since he knew that he could not offer me the service I was seeking.) Then, a few months after the ENT's unfruitful procedure, my nasal wall collapsed and Dr Kontis thankfully repeated the septoplasty, turbinectomy and also performed the rhinoplasty and a mentoplasty. As a grad student, I had time constraints; she was very mindful of my schedule and conducted an emergency surgery once she determined that my nasal wall had collapsed. She answered all of my questions with interest; she was very realistic and straightforward in her responses (which I greatly appreciated) . As such, I had a clear understanding of what to expect before, during and after the procedure. The healing process is gradual and I can still observe changes even after a year. My nose tip still appears slightly swollen and some parts are regaining sense of touch (No one else around me is aware of this subtle change). My scars are invisible with light makeup. Even without makeup, the scars do not stand out unless I scrutinize. The BEST part is that I do not look animated or plastic. Dr Kontis ensured that the changes were natural, enhanced my features and made my face more proportional. And of course I breathe far much better! read more

I was referred to Dr Kontis for a biopsy on my face. I was a little nervous about the procedure, but found Dr Kontis to be so kind, gentle and reassuring. The procedure was easy and painless. Within just a couple days Dr Kontis called with the - luckily - negative results. The message she left on my phone was spoken with a positive, soothing, sweet voice.
