When I visited they had a great live free-style hip-hop, show put on by two guys from Berlin. The show was top-notch, the sound great, and the crowd was well mixed and hopping. Strange to be at a live hip-hop show and not a brother there to representing the black man, but whatever. Since there was a live show, there was a 14 CHF cover which I though was worth every cent. Drink prices where also quite reasonable, costing 6ish CHF for mixed drinks and wine. The people working there where very laid back and friendly. Worth noting here is when you order vodka, they will not understand you unless you pronounce it vood-ka, but maybe they where just giving the foreigner some shit. :) The location is stumbling distance from the Hardbrüke station, nice to know when it is pissing rain. Over all I highly recommend Helsinki as a drinking and live music venue.

The atmosphere is out of the world. We partied on a Friday night and the Swiss, along with the many foreigners in attendance, come out to enjoy the night. It was a party for the ages. In the summer, you can really feel the beauty of this location as the soft, cool breeze of the Sihl runs by you as you sit outside with a drink. A no-fuss BBQ food is also available for purchase during outdoor friendly weather. The only negative I find is that there can be at times a lot of smokers outside putting a damper on the nice air, but this is more of a Zurich thang, not El Lokal's fault. The convenience of this location is key - it's a short walk from the Sihlpost stop (Lines 3, 14, 31). Frequented by real hipsters (ya know, those that would never call themselves hipsters), they host regular live band concerts in a cozy atmosphere. Sadly I've heard that this is running into tough times, as I was told this was attributed to younger generations (Millennials/Generation Z...) trending more into club hopping and not so much into live music in small cozy venues. So please support this place and attend a concert here with some friends - could be a great time! Drinks selections are decent, and will please the patriotic Swiss soft drink lovers as they carry stuff from the local Vivi Kola. But hopefully, unlike my favorite pirate Jack Sparrow, you won't be saying "why is the rum gone" when you are here!

Apropos drinks: I ordered one beer the whole night, and, thanks to some uber-efficient staff member, was only able to drink about half of it before it disappeared from its perch next to me. -guess I should have chained the darn bottle to my wrist. After reading TN's review I now know that toilets are on another floor at the opposite end of the joint and I am glad I never had to go on the hunt for them. I've been to see a few concerts there of artists that got really big the following year and I always think its nice to be ahead of the curve once in a while. Is it open all week and each night has a different agenda. There are nights when DJs come to spin, but most of the time concerts are held here. They have a cute little outdoor area for smokers and they also have a fumoir if you want to sit and have a ciggie. A cool spot to check out if in Zurich
