The space was well decorated and very clean. The energy felt great. However I was surprised that it's a hot yoga studio and there is no locker rooms or showers. I went to a few classes while I was in town visiting family, with three different instructors, and two of the three were hard to follow. The music was louder than their voices, guidance to the next pose was sometimes challenging to follow, and they used the traditional names for some asanas that most people may not know unless they are routinely exposed to the word. Overall it was a good experience, just wasn't what I am used to at my studio back home. read more

I have been to yoga studios all over the US, and this is my favorite one by far. The studio is beautiful and very clean. The teachers are incredibly kind, talented, always offering modifications for new yoga students, injuries, and advanced yoga students. I have been going here for years and love what they do for the community, they offer pop-up events & more. In all of their classes I feel like I learn some thing new. I've been practicing yoga for decades, both at home and in studios. I absolutely love this place! I've taken both the Power and Pilates Sculpt classes and they offer challenges both physically and mentally, with the option to take it down a notch if necessary. The instructors are amazing and the studio is beautiful, welcoming, and relaxing. The heat is such a great bonus without being overwhelming and leaving puddles everywhere you step. Different take on a review, how do I review a yoga studio? Anyways, amazing isn't a good enough word to describe my first experience here. I've done some yoga in the past (like 4 classes tops) but I've never actually practiced in a studio. I have a very stressful job and I was recommended this by a friend who told me that it will definitely relax me. I told myself, "why not, I need self care" and I went ahead and bought all the gear, and signed up for the monthly membership KNOWING this was gonna be what I desperately needed. Went in today for the first time and Jasmine was tonight's instructor. She blew me away, super relaxing and chill person who just made it all that much better. She has a great personality for this type of stuff, couldn't have asked for more for my first time here. I'm really looking forward to attending more classes. The location is also perfect, the studio is a nice little place that's warm (literally) and inviting. Lol. Anyways, the reason why I was there in the first place was to relax, and boy did that happen. Even if you're not into yoga and just want an alternative way to workout your body or let the days stress blow away, check this place out. read more

This is my first yoga studio! I moved out to the AV about a year ago when my only prior yoga experience was at home using YouTube videos. I love it here. I love it so much I go nearly every weekend and find ways to fit in sessions after work because I'd rather yoga than anything else. First, this is a really cute/aesthetically pleasing studio. I'd like to call it the Instagram studio. Nice, trendy decor; motivational sayings galore; chair hanging from the ceiling--done and done. They also provide everything you need to practice free of charge: yoga mats, knee mats, blocks, straps, all the essential oils, even tissues. Second, all the instructors are excellent. My preferred sessions are the power flow, buti, and power flow strength because I like to sweat things out, but they also have restorative and slow flow. Basically any type for any experience level, including special classes and events during the weekend. Shout out to instructor Ezra, who's behind the new power flow strength. He's some super athlete who incorporates all these crazy pushups/arm balances/squats/etc that will make you feel like you're on the verge of death....but his classes are my fave because you get a good workout and feel accomplished that you did not die. Also noteworthy is that prior to joining this studio, working out felt like a chore. Now I legitimately enjoy working out and find ways to fit in class. I've dropped a lot of dress sizes since moving here! Finally, everyone--instructors and students alike--is super friendly. You definitely get a small, close-knit community vibe at the Yoga Roots. I moved here by myself and would go to this studio a lot to curb the loneliness, so thank you for that. There are students of all levels/backgrounds and everyone's very encouraging--so it's nice to let loose/do your thing in class without feeling self-conscious about mistakes/experience level. read more

All instructors are very helpful and encourage you to try something new. Just in the past few weeks I have become much more flexible and would recommend the "Power Flow" classes with Shannon!!! The setup is extremely relaxing. I love the different smell and oils available. Orange, lemon, eucalyptus, frankincense, rose, and watermelon are some of my favorites. However, I would encourage you to find what works best for you in your flow. Trust me, there will be poses that you won't be able to do at first. Even if you think you are a Yoga PRO, Shannon, Ezra, Jazmine and all the instructors will have you dropping your ego at the door. (Keep the door shut behind you or the warm air gets out). This is an excellent place to refocus everyday and just let go. Personally, I would recommend taking a class in the morning because it will literally make the rest of your day incredible and isn't that what we all want. $30 for 30 days if you are new student. You can't beat that, and if you can, I promise the yoga studio and instructors won't be as awesome as the ones at Yoga Roots! read more

After a long hiatus, I decided to go back to yoga to help de-stress, get the baby weight off and have some much needed ME time. So...the Yelp search began. TYG was the closest studio to my place and I was feeling spontaneous so why not? I took my little sister, kissed the hubs good morning and did a walk-in for my first Power Flow (heated, 90 degrees) class. First impressions: Easy to find location, studio is clean and has a modern farmhouse decor that I absolutely adore. I also liked the no-pressure/no-judgement vibe (compared to some Silverlake/Echo Park studios in LA...meep). And of course, I came unprepared. Luckily, they had yoga mats and blocks you may use -- free of charge. I opted in for their $30 for 30 days of unlimited yoga to start. Oh and if you're military/veteran you get an addtl 10% discount. Sweet! Power Flow worked me out! I was a bit rusty but loved the feeling after a great heated session. This was my little sister's first ever yoga sesh and she fell in love. If you are a fan of hot yoga, Bikram yoga -- you will enjoy this class. It is Vinyasa based so it's still suited for beginners (go on your own pace) and challenging enough for expert Yogis. It's been 2+ weeks and I've gone pretty consistently and experienced different instructors. Ezra, Lesley, Michelle, Rochelle and Jasmine W are all phenomenal. Each instructor has their own unique style and it keeps me on my toes. I can't wait to officially sign up after my trial! read more

I have been going to The Yoga Roots for nearly two years. Shannon's warm demeanor welcomes playfulness and laughter in the studio. Her style is vinyasa flow with power yoga influence. The classes are multi-level and frequently there is a good mix of beginner and advanced. For those who prefer a slower pace, she frequently offers hip-opening and stress-relief workshops. Also, in general, the weekday morning classes seem a bit easier and slower. My favorites include arm balance/inversion workshops, aromatherapy workshops, 108 sun salutations mala, and sweaty yoga classes. The new location is modern and serene on the second floor of a BLVD high rise. The room has a scent of eucalyptus and mint. You feel more centered by just being in the studio. I was so pleased to find this studio, even though it took me a while to get there. I've practiced yoga since 1990 and have been to many classes at many facilities. The instructors I've worked with, have both reminded me why I love yoga so much. After a seven month battle cancer my husband was so comfortable that he fell asleep at the end of Brandon's yin workshop. That two hour class helped him loosen his back and hips and knees so much. Health insurance should cover it. It's that good. And between Brandon and Shannon I get stronger, breathe deeper, move easier and feel better than I have in so long. And to the other reviewers who mentioned the limited floor space, please consider that they are trying to keep the prices accessible. This is an owner operated studio, not a corporate backed cookie cutter one. I'm 45, my husband is 55 and my sons are 17. We all get different things from our practices, we all want different things from out practices and we get them here. And I like the quietly casual way Shannon teaches. It makes you not so careful not to make any little noise and disturb the class. Sometimes yoga makes me laugh. And sometimes it makes me feel powerful. And it's nice to be able to be excited. The newly opened "The Yoga Roots" studio is the perfect place for anyone who is either starting or advancing their practice. All classes are currently being taught by the owner, Shannon Quiqley, who is a gifted and caring individual who puts a lot of effort into making sure her students are safe, learning something and enjoying their class. She is well studied, super friendly and very inspirational to anyone looking to making positive changes in their life. The studio space is brand new, serene and beautiful. There is plenty of parking in the back of the building, which is shared with the Lemon Leaf. I should mention that The Yoga Roots had a previous location but recently moved because the space wasn't large enough to accommodate its growing popularity. There is a website www.theyogaroots.com which allows for booking classes online, creating a user profile, etc., or viewing Shannon's credentials. The Yoga Roots is a lovely place to practice. This was my first yoga experience and I was initially very intimidated about trying yoga but that feeling quickly went away. The instructors are all so friendly and very helpful, even though the classes fill up I still felt that they took the time to adjust my form and to make sure that I was doing it in a safe manner. Yoga is no joke and I dare anyone to try it out, I have been lifting in the gym for several years but my shoulders have never been more sore than they were after doing yoga. The place is good for what you can expect to get in the desert. I am a native of L.A., and have experienced lots of places from Bikram to Maui...I do have one big complaint: I advise you to make sure when you book for a retreat like the one coming up in Sedona, do not leave your deposit until you are dead sure you are going. Especially for Us that Work for a living... The deposit is usually in the amount of $200. I made that mistake, last year w/Shannon. I booked for a retreat in Ojai. She happily took my $200 dollar deposit and was ecstatic about the retreat and super happy about me coming along. But when my work schedule unexpectedly changed, she said, "sorry, no refund". So, when I attempted to make something work out, w/work and Shannon, she advised me, "well the girl that has the room, doesn't like to share, so I will have to talk to her". And, still, "No refund"... Not even a , hey here take some (free) classes given I just gave a donation of $200 dollars to this small studio w mediocre teachers... Namaste... I still attend classes, but I pay on a one on one basis. I have a bad back. I don't however, attend classes when Shannon is teaching them. read more

Over the years I have been to a few different yoga studios and have always felt uncomfortable, bored or intimidated. Not once have I ever felt any of those things at the Yoga Roots. Shannon is a great teacher who keeps things lively and fun. I also appreciate how much she asks for feedback from the students and implements changes based it. I am in the Palmdale/ Lancaster area all the time on the weekends, and considering they dont have a Golds gym or a Bikram yoga studio, I stumbled upon this fab little find and attened Shannon's hot yoga session, it was powerful practice, vinyasa flow and core engaging, definitely a great sweat.
