Twelve of us ate here for a birthday…read more The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about our special dietary requirements. The chefs knew their stuff and prepared a lovely meal for us. Price was on the expensive side of reasonable but we definitely had decent value for money. The location is lovely, the view out across the hills and farms is serene and tranquil. Our order had 6 kids meals, all of which were well received and eaten with gusto. The batter on the fish was particularly light and crispy, the fish full of flavour and succulent, not dried-out as so often is the case. Personally, I very much enjoyed a wild mushroom tagliatelle which was cooked to perfection, the creamy sauce punctuated with all sorts of interesting mushrooms. A cheese board to finish my meal with three interesting cheeses, a quince jelly and pressed fig cake was very tasty, no dull cheddar or red-liecester, but three engaging and palate-warming cheeses accompanied by light crackers. Others in the group enjoyed the salmon on risotto, fish cakes, pork belly and a classic roast beef with Yorkshire pud. Nobody had any complaints, we'd go back if we were in the area and if you're close by, would definitely recommend you search it out. The building which would normally double up as an inn / hotel is undergoing a large refurb and refit project, yet still remains lovely to look at and there was no disruption to our meal at all. (Maybe because it was a Sunday) Great place to visit.

Burford has significant meaning to my group so it was a must visit for us while in the Cotswolds…read more Since we hadn't eaten, he chose The Angel at Burford for us, which operates as a restaurant and hotel. It's a nice pub and establishment. When you enter there's a bar and some cozy indoor seating with natural light. Nothing fancy. There's also a wonderful outdoor patio, which is where we sat. There's two floors to it and most of the seating is covered. The service by workers were all friendly and nice. We ordered with them then paid at the bar. We shared Duck and Orange Pate. It was thick, tasty, and complex but well balanced. I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich--the mixed leaves were tasty, the chicken crispy, and honestly it was a filling sandwich. I would say I'd like more in between the bread but it did fill me up. You've got plenty of pub options in Burford, but we quite enjoyed our time at The Angel. It's off Witney Street and a nice place to dine!

I know that great grandfather's back millennia helped build the Burford bridge over the little river that's at the foot of high Street and so it was fun seeing all these places and having lunch there and thinking about my families connection to the town. Burford is considered to be the gateway to the cot waltz. The cot walls has an old area that has changed for a little over the hundreds of years and has amazing architecture and houses and farms. It's surrounded by rolling Hills and Dells and little rivers running through it. Burford is considered the gateway to the cot walls because it showcases several styles of very old architecture. that's still an excellent condition. If you have questions about what to do while you're there go to the Tolsey house. But I have to say there is no question that when I got there And it was lunchtime that I selected the angel at Burford to eat the fine food that they serve there. The staff quality of the food everything was amazing. I will return time and time again.

An unfortunate start to the evening (but we learnt the reason later)…read more Friends had booked for 20:30, on the basis there were no tables available at 19:30. So a table for 4 was required. When we arrived, the place was packed. I do think that they do have too many tables situated close together. There were people sat at tables for 4, when there were only 2. We were placed at a table for 8. Not particularly conducive to conversation. The noise was tremendous from the number of people, but the "muzak" was somewhat subdued. Being a card-carrying hearing aid person, I couldn't distinguish the sounds. There is nothing to soak up the general chatter/noise. The muzak isn't really required. The serving staff, came back to us after 30 minutes apologising for the wait for our table. However, we did have drinks fairly quickly from when we arrived. Eventually they persuaded a couple of women to move to a table for 2, and the table for 4 was cleaned and prepared for our move. The reason for this chaos? The booking system had gone down earlier, and they couldn't see who had booked, and people came in saying they had booked, when later it was found that they hadn't. So, then tables were occupied that were originally reserved. Lesson learnt: Get an early printout of the bookings for the evening in case it happens again. There was one point I asked for a small glass of Malbec (to go with my steak), and a glass of white wine arrived.... I had a full loyalty card for a two course à la carte, which meant £19.90 was removed from the bill. The food was excellent. I had: Pâté de Campagne £5.95 Home-made coarse pâté using four cuts of pork and pistachio nuts, served with cornichons and sourdough toast and Pavé de steak £16.50 8oz rump steak (best cooked slightly rare) The latter I said I would have blue if 28 days old, and rare if 21 days old. Stupidly I didn't look at the menu, and would have realised it was 21 days. Nevertheless, it was cooked perfectly, and was better than some alleged 21-day old steaks I've had in the past. The staff were superb, and nothing was too much trouble. As I said earlier the place was packed, and they coped remarkably well, given the problems with the systems. Shame on those customers that took advantage of the situation, and on that basis, I am not dropping any points.
