Came here for dinner due to recommendation. It is a really beautiful old building with real…read morecharacter. It had nice beers and a fair selection of food. We shared a starter and then had some steak and chips plus hake and veg with 2 rounds of beer. The service was good and the quality of the food was good, with the steak being a little overdone. Overall a lovely experience. Recommend for the atmosphere.

A few moans about their staff later, they decided there was a table available so no big deal. We sat and took a look at the menu hoping to get a drink soon to accompany our decision. 10 mins passed no sign of anyone taking our drink order, another 15 mins passed but still no sign as we sat in the heat of the small room, next to the kitchen, sweating and listening to the ding of the microwave. So I thought ok, the lady did say they were a staff member short, I'll go downstairs to the bar and grab everyone's drinks. However the lady behind the bar was doing the drinks for the two tables in the bar so couldn't pour our drinks. Needless to say my family was not amused. Eventually we all got our drinks after 45 minutes. After all the microwave dings and discombobulated staff our expectations of the food were not high. So, when it came out, we were initially impressed. My son and I shared the seafood platter which was actually quite nice despite the stale bread and "olive" oil that would have been great to cook chips in! One of our party had a burger... we figured that's what was the cause of a few of those microwave dings.... greasy and gross. But it's ok because she popped into the supermarket on the way home to get something edible! To end the evening off the (presumably) owner/chef came out when we very politely mentioned our issues and was rude - storming off saying "whatever" - I mean REALLY!! She also tried to diddle me out of my £25 deposit!

WOW! We visit Dartmouth every year to visit our family who live here in this beautiful town. The DA…read morehas always been our go to pub and we have always been made to feel very welcome. But not today (19/10/24), we called in for a drink on our way home at 9.45pm to be told last orders had been called and turned away by the same young girl who we found very unwelcoming yesterday mid afternoon. who wanted to spend more time on her phone and out of the bar area. 28+ years we've been visiting the DA and never have we felt so unwelcomed. Never did I ever feel I'd want to write a review like this but we are sorry this has alway been our home from home pub however not this last few days. Fingers crossed we see an old welcoming face before we leave to go home and not one who you feel your putting her out by even walking through the door! Sorry DA this makes me so sad to write this...we normally eat, drink, laugh and love this pub and staff !!!

Many a happy session spent in this charming old pub, right on the riverfront…read more Right at the end of the walkway is Bayards Cove, a tiny little fort, and the cobbled streets alongside and picturesque housefronts have been the scene for several TV shows. Inside the pub, there's any number of photographs on display of various luminaries and scenes you might recognise. It's got that old-world air about it, deep long bar, panelled walls and despite the tourist trade has a great 'local' atmosphere, presided over by a genial host (or maybe it was just the barman. Either way, the staff are great!) Outside, you can watch the water go by and see the lights twinkling around the town when darkness falls. Lovely pub - and their pub meals are pretty tasty too!
