Bacon. Tons of bacon. Bacon popcorn. Bacon brownies. Bacon Mac & cheese. You get the point…read more With admission to Bacon Fest, not only do you contribute to charity, you also get tons of bacony samples and lots of AmeriBrew pub beer. With 10 vendors providing food samples, you really get to try a lot of different things. My favorites were the Lucky bakery scones and the Funky Monkey popcorn. We didn't partake in all you can eat bacon contest ($10) but watched, and it was pretty entertaining. The beer samples were good, including the pale ale, dark lager, and blonde. The event was held in the parking lot at the Ameristar Casino, not too much shade but thankfully the weather was nice today for the event. Enjoying the food beer and people watching. A fun way to celebrate a Midwestern staple.

Loved all the bacon-inspired food samples: bacon-wrapped pork belly, bacon covered brownies, bacon…read morescones, bacon popcorn, bacon soda, & more. Great idea to have the ticket bands to coordinate stations. It helped us keep track of what we'd tried & where each was located. I had more blonde than expected as I'm more of a sour drinker (hint, hint). My only complaints were having nowhere to set anything down; it made eating samples & drinking difficult. Also, a few tents or some kind of shade would have also made a world of difference. If not for the wind, the excessive sweating would have sent me home after our last samples. If a little better set-up, or a kinder day, this is an event I would love to taste again.

First time at the RenFest and we had a blast! This is definitely going to become a recurring thing…read morein our household. Not gonna lie -- I felt a little intimidated knowing costumes were the norm and we didn't have any. But once we got there I realized it didn't matter at all. Nobody cared, it felt welcoming, and we had a genuinely fun family time with or without a costume! There was something for everyone. The vendors and crafts were great -- my kid walked out with a wooden sword. Both girls got tiaras and felt like absolute princesses. The human chess game was one of our favorite shows, right up there with the knights jousting. And the fact that Rapunzel and Belle were overlooking the knight's fighting? The girls spotted them immediately -- perfect touch! Food was good -- hotdogs, chicken fingers, and fries hit the spot. But those turkey legs smelled AMAZING. Drinks were perfectly cold, which was everything considering it's been hotter than usual. Highly recommended -- go with or without a costume, just go!

Brought my family here for the knights of lights winter event for the first time. The event ran…read morefrom 530pm-9pm. Upon scanning your ticket, there were two guards at a display playing trumpets(Hark the Herald Angels Sing). The hostess encouraged us to redeem our free gift at a booth across from the entrance and there, they gave one free renaissance festival ticket to each guest. Pleasant surprise! The lights were very nice and definitely gave a joyful medieval Christmas overlay. The lighted paths were fun but sometimes difficult to follow. It was easy to roam off the path and get a little turned around but it was no trouble at all, just a bit rocky terrain so good walking shoes are recommended. There were booths that provided warmth, food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. I worked at the chicken and chips booth at the renaissance festival when when I was 14, my very first job, so I had to stop and order some chicken and chips(french fries) with a side of honey mustard and my husband ordered the brisket chili. The chili was served in a 16oz styrofoam cup which kept it hot until he was finished. The chicken and chips were served hot and fresh as well...3 large chicken strips and delicious crispy french fries. Both meals were absolutely PHENOMENAL for such a decent price of $9 each. As we ate, we sat and watched a fire show with juggling and other fun tricks. Unfortunately, I didn't get but one photo because I had an extended day of work and didn't get to charge my phone before heading to the event. We plan to return next year. Tickets were very affordable and with early bird special, we purchased all 5 tickets for $58. 4 adults and one child. It was a great time!
