A complete waste of my time…read more Came in for St. Patrick's Day, looking for both dinner and drinks. Asked the server if I needed to wait to be seated. She said there was open seating. I take a seat and wait for server to come by and take my order. Fifteen minutes or so pass, and several servers walk past me. No one stopped to bring me a menu, or even acknowledge that I was waiting. Finally, I saw the same server and asked her was anybody going to come by to take my order. She told me that orders are to be placed at the bar. I asked her if the kitchen was still open, and she said that they also don't serve food. Jesus.... If patrons have to order their own cocktails, why are their servers present at all? Moreover, why isn't there any signage indicating to patrons that this establishment is both self-seating as well as self-service (well, placing your own order at the bar)?

Open and airy, it's a throwback to Old World architecture with a vintage Athletic Club vibe. In fact, it's considered to be a "Grade I" listed building, joining the ranks of other historically significant places in London, including Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge. In fact, it felt like T.S. Eliot, Agatha Christie, or Virginia Woolf might've passed through here to take in a pint themselves or be inspired by the trains below for their next plot line. Since I was craving Fish & Chips with malted vinegar and creamy tartar sauce the moment I booked my trip to London, this was a clear choice on their menu. Disappoint, it did not! (Though it was one of my fears considering it's located at a highly touristic point at King's Cross Station.) In fact, the fish was fresh and flakey, while the chips were perfectly cut and well-seasoned. There was even a side of minty peas next to my fresh-cut lemon wedges that made me smile. I paired it with a cold pint of a local draught Cider that was also quite refreshing on this balmy, summer day. Equally as impressive, my meal was ready almost as quick as the whip of my wand and the snap of my fingers. Granted, it was 3pm in the afternoon and the crowds were light at that time. But still. The locomotive speed on my order was noted and very much appreciated. To top it off, the friendly staff helped me navigate through my whims and indecision with their selection of pints and cocktails (and even the city to find my next stop). So the next time I'm passing through here, I'll be sure to make this a stop along my journey. Cheers to The Parcel Yard for a job well done from start to finish!

We were greeted and seated quickly and when my friend mentioned that she only had 30 minutes break for lunch, they even served our hot meals very quickly. I had a Touluse sausage on a bed of Puy lentils with a side of garlic mushrooms that was lovely. My friend ordered a sandwich which was quite large and came with fries. The fries were really good and I kept stealing some from her plate. I'm normally skeptical of pub lunches, but the menu had a good range of dishes and the food here was much better than the average pub.

We were going to go to a park called the harp which is right next door this place but because it was so busy they were only serving drinks and it was absolutely packed. So off we go next door to a bar called The Marquis. Just like it's neighbor it was super packed but there's a little known secret that upstairs is a small Restaurant and bar. This is been open since the 1600s and for sure going up the stairs you can see that. There is a wee tiny bathroom nestled in the corner of the stairs that a grown man can barely fit in but it works! Once you leave your way up the stairs they have a very cozy bar with probably seven tables. The bartender also operates a record player and she is in charge of playing the music. Her taste was spot on! Being that we were in London I wanted to have a proper pint of Guinness and she definitely hooked me up. I ordered a beef stew which came with a very flaky croissant like crust on top of it and I absolutely wrecked it. home cooking at its best it was fan freaking tastic. My wife being a fan of fish and chips got the same and she said you cannot beat fish and chips when in London. Looking out the window to the crowd below I was kind of happy that not very many people knew of this secret right above the Marquee bar. 100% find this place get something to eat and enjoy its history.

As a sports bar, which is what it seems to push itself as with a gastro menu, its not so great. On a fairly bust 6 nations day the service fell to pieces, the staff seemed more irritated as each order went. Not really what you want on a nice Saturday out in town. If I was at Waterloo waiting for a train I would go back, to watch a sporting event with friends...I would give it a wide berth.

The bartender was incredibly friendly and helpful! When I ordered one of their cask ales, she let me know it might taste warmer and flatter than I'm used to as an American (I'm a beer enthusiast who has been to England before so I knew this, but could definitely be helpful information to other Americans). My son was psyched to see they had J2O, his new favorite British drink. We ordered lunch from the Thai restaurant next door (the two businesses are connected) and sat at the corner table by the fireplace. The food was excellent, the beer superb, the atmosphere cozy and quaint. Everything I could hope for as an American looking for a traditional English pub. Of the many pubs we went to during our trip around England, this was one of my favorites.
