I came to find out about LHUCA through attending the First Friday art trail events in the area…read more Technically, the event is named after this place and has the gallery as its central focal point. The idea being to come stroll through the gallery, then work your way out onto the cordoned off streets and check out local art vendors and handmade goods before settling on beers and live music or performances somewhere along the way. This gallery always has a perfect assortment of displays running the gamut between peculiar to practical. I've seen some incredible handmade pottery mugs for sale, and some bizarre installations of another form of pottery: the toilet. It is, nevertheless, wonderful to have such a place in little ol' Lubbock. There are some beautiful large art pieces that hang on the walls making up the majority of the contents. Paintings, photography, mosaics. All sorts of media. Some for sale, albeit often at quite high prices, and many marked "NFS", or "Not For Sale". There's a very tiny little shop selling remnants of older installations, as well as "extras" made by some of the artists. It's quaint. A front desk has flyers and cards for the current and future exhibits. My favorite, they also have a pile of free stickers with the center name on them. Even in a time when retailers and restaurants struggle to keep staff, they always have plenty of attendants working the gallery to answer questions and shout at you if you dare touch the art. That's commendable and makes the experience all the more whole. It's been 7 years between the latest review and mine, but the place is still kickin' and worth visitin'!

It is very spacious and holds so many art appreciators all at once. It is the hub of the first friday art trail that happens every first friday of the month 6pm-9pm rain or shine! It is also open throughout the week to visit. During the first friday art trail they also serve beer and wine for a small cost. The Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts is an amazing addition to the sometimes known as boring Lubbock, Tx. It keeps the city excited about up and coming artists and their work. I love that our City has such an amazing establishment to enrich the locals.

Wow. My husband and I visited this store saturday afternoon to kill some time and buy gifts for…read morefriends. We are in our early 30s, and well dressed... I cannot imagine what made the shop keeper here treat us as he did. First, we were followed around the store by some obese woman with no personal space boundaries. She might have well been crawling into my husbands back pocket. By this time I had my hands full with at least 5 items I wanted to purchase. We made our way down another isle towards the front of the store, fat lady still in tow. It was at the front of the store again when my husband looked up and made eye contact with a man behind the counter, who subtlely shook his head at him. My husband was so offended, he had me put down my selections and immediately leave. It wasnt til we were in the car that he told me what the man did, and with the woman up our backs, they were treating us as if we planned to shoplift. I am stunned by this. And saddened. I will never again shop there. Though it had been years since my last visit, I most certainly will never spend money there again. I can find the same knick knacks online, with better customer service, and probably better pricing.

I recently purchased a movie prop and thought the frame would be perfect. I searched around online but could not really find just the glass and backing so I changed up my search and found Frame Mart. I took my frame and my prop into the store and Robbye helped me right away. She was pleasant and knowledgeable and assisted me with picking a complimenting backing and some museum glass for my frame. The pricing was shockingly affordable and I had my order in about a week. I came back and picked it up and could not be happier!!!! I cannot wait to hang it up next to my other Dracula memorabilia! Carla picked out the perfect colors and excellent frame and just the changes she made was like breathing new life into a print I have looked at for over 25 years!!! I have now showered her with more pieces to be cleaned & updated. Her professionalism and sterling customer service just can't be beat, folks. Don't waste your time elsewhere.

You can rent rooms out to record for a certain amount of time at a set price. This review is about the coffee shop portion...not the studio part of the concept. The overall concept seems pretty cool at first, but the execution of the coffee shop portion is poorly done. The manager, from what I can tell, was telling the employees loudly in front of guests (all 4) how mad the owner is going to be on Monday and telling them to "be on their toes". Extremely unprofessional, should've been taken care of in the back...as for the place itself, its set up with art that can be bought throughout the entire coffee shop, which is neat but also means the seating is limited since they are trying to drive customers eyes to the walls of art to buy. All the tables in the store are not flat for getting actual writing done, but instead some sort of stucco art design that make for a poor surface to be productive on. The coffee overall was good, which is important for a COFFEE shop.I had a "Sticky Wicked" and it was pretty awesome actually. But the wifi is so slow for a coffee house not even 6 blocks away from a large research university I ended up having to leave to go to Starbucks to actually load web pages to do homework. The overall experience was poor and I found the place itself doesn't know what it is; art gallery? coffee shop? recording studio? I wanted to like this place, as a new place to study and somewhere to support other than Starbucks. But the experience was so poor I really wouldn't recommend going, at least not for now. I think it is a missed opportunity with so many college students always looking for a place to study and meet up. The overall vibe doesn't seem to be catering to college students as much as some sort of other customer base that I'm not entirely sure Lubbock has. Best to fight for a table at JB or the usual Starbucks.
