I've seen people get their stuff and leave because of this. Some members of staff are not very helpful at all. The new equipment is okay but the whole gym feels very cluttered and you can't work out in peace because you're constantly looking around to make sure nobody bashes into your barbell or that you don't hit anyone. At peak times, this gym is a nightmare. The queue for the benches, racks and dumbbell area is ridiculous. One can wait up to 10-15 minutes before a piece of equipment is available. Also for the past few weeks the lights on the outdoor running track have been turned off very early, about 5pm. We have nowhere to run. We can't use the upstairs indoor track because it is too small and gets crowded very easily. The pool is a nightmare. There seems to be kids classes on constantly and that leaves 2 lanes and an open area for the members. You can't enjoy a swim because of the sheer amount of people in it. Honestly, spend your money elsewhere. The Mardyke Arena just isn't worth it

The mardyke is a great gym, it has pretty much everything; gym, pool, sauna, steam room, cafe,…read morerunning track, astro turf, squash court, basketball courts. the gym is really good, a load of machines, a separate free weights section with two racks and dumbells up to 50kg, about a gizillion treadmills and bikes. Theres also a separate 'elite' section, and a separate women's gyn (not too sure whats in there though) you see all shapes and sizes in there, yesterday a guy was benching about 180kg and the next guy to use the bench was struggling with just the bar. It gets busy enough between 6.30 and 8.00 but not unbearable. The staff are pretty good by and large, its always spotless, parking gets seriously busy at peak times, all in all a fantastic place to train. Very good! Really enjoyed all the routes I did. Way more use of arêtes than I'm used to, which was…read morea fun change. So many different wall orientations too- made for a great variety as well. The drop in coaching classes seem like they'd be super helpful as well, not something I've seen before- definitely wish they had this at gyms I was able to go to regularly. Color grading for all the routes via their holds was exceedingly helpful, made it really easy to find problems to do.

Writing this review is very difficult for me, not in an emotional sense but because I've been…read moreclimbing a lot lately and it has led to a condition I call, dinosaur hands. For those of you not familiar with dinosaurs or hands it basically means that my hands are feeling very floppy. Holding a pint of Guinness last night took considerable effort and grip revision. To the uneducated eye some may think that I am overtly expressive in a camp theatrical way with my flailing hands. But enough about my hands, what about the wall? €8 to go each time. €5 one time only membership. Plenty of walls of all different intensity levels for you to practise on (bouldering not rock climbing). They have a free drop in class every Monday for beginners. It's not in the sexiest of locations but the inside is very well done, you can get coffee and parents etc can chill out in the seating area and look on. If you are OK with heights and falling from heights give it a go. If you're not you are more than welcome to watch my hands go dinosaur like as I fall from a height. I think that would be very rewarding for those of you that don't like me.
